Safe House

*** Devion's Pov *** Cannon's instructions to his silent, deadly-looking driver didn't go unnoticed by me. We were all just too exhausted to care. I don't know what he did using his core after he left us, but the amount of times he saved us down there, well he deserves a nap. He also saved a kid. Tiny little thing, all curled up on Addy, staring out the window. I hope he explains that when he wakes up. The situation as I see it, does not permit the time nor options to be older brothers and sister at the moment. I wonder how long he intended to keep her with us. Babysitting should be the least of our problems right now, but it beats thinking about everything else going wrong. Our elemental brother's physical form is closer to death than I thought possible. Evony though breathing just fine, seems to be in a comatose state. All I want to do is follow Cannon into dream land as well, but alas, I would feel guilty leaving Addy alone.Hence, I am awake and currently wishing the kid was a boy. At least I had experience with those. "Dev..." Willow called out to me. Once I looked directly at her, she asked, "Who is the pretty lady sleeping?" I smiled then, a tired one, answering, "Her name is Evony. She did a lot of work so she is a little tired now, but once she wakes up, I'm sure she'd like to meet you." "Canny said he was an ele'tle for a queen. Are you that too?" the curious little thing inquired. Addy answered that one, "Yes princess. It's e-le-men-tal," sounding it out to her, "And she is the queen. But why would Canny tell you that, Willow?" " 'Cause I showed him what I really look like. I thought he was scared of me," she stated in a small voice. "Oh," I said, confused. "Do you look different?" I asked, still concerned about the information we were giving her. Sure she's just a kid, but she was in that place for a reason. "Yeahhh, but Ca- Canny said best to be safe," she answered. Addanon and I shared a look. What the actual f0ck? He then went on to glare at the dead-to-the-world water representative in our group. Chuckling at his useless gesture, I shook my head. I looked back out the window hoping my trust in Cannon was not misplaced. He had us headed to a safe house. He erased public/government images off traffic cams and blew up a supercomputer. A silly part of me wanted to ask him if he was a spy of some sort, another wanted to be angry, more like jealous of him for being so well prepared and informed. However, surprisingly, most of me just feels proud and grateful that he was with us and not against us. Cannon could have the world and instead, he's using his resources for our sakes. Nothing to gain in return. "Addy, you smell like home," Willow said, breaking the silence. "How does your home smell?" he asked in return. "Like pine trees, flowers and fruits!" she exclaimed, then realized she was a bit loud, she placed both little hands over her mouth in the cutest fashion, with a muffled, "Oops." This made Addy laugh for the first time today. Making him seem more human, more like a brother I wish to meet. One I had hoped for on my way to the meeting place earlier today. "It's okay. They are all sound asleep," he reassured her, looking towards Bren on the other side of me, with a worried stare. He absentmindedly began running his hand from the top of her head down the length of her hair. It soon got her to cuddle back into him and snooze off, infecting Addanon as well, which was confirmed by his snores. Unsure of how long we'd been driving, or how much longer we had. I decided to get a much needed rest myself. ........................................................................................................................................................................................................ I woke to muffled voices, realizing we'd stopped. Cannon was out of the car, chatting with G.I Joe. I looked around, making sure to do a head count, including the extra baggage, and realized I needed to stretch my legs. Ow cramp! I had to maneuver so as not to disturb anyone. As both Evony and Bren were leaning on me, once I had moved, I made sure they were comfortable before climbing out and stretching my limbs with so much force, I heard the distinct sound of them cracking, feeling much more relieved and energised. Hmmmm....... must have slept longer than anticipated. Then I felt a bit embarrassed because this caused the people outside the car to look in my direction. I wasn't sure if they'd heard or not, but neither let on. "Great your awake. I was worried Slade and I would have to do all the heavy lifting," Cannon said. I just smiled in return, knowing it was his attempt at a joke, while casing my surroundings. That made me think of every horror movie I had the displeasure of viewing. "Can, not trying to be difficult, but ummm.... why are we in the middle of nowhere and parked?" I am black. Black people know they do not go into the woods, split up in the dark, follow the creepy noises and most definitely will not hang out in quarries at vampire o'clock in the morning. "Don't worry, this is just the above level. I won't make you guys stay in a shabby place," he informed, giving me his signature smirk. To his driver, "Head on back now, I appreciate the assistance earlier. Stay with Kronos until I need you again." Slade nodded in acknowledgment at me, and gave a yes sir to Cannon. Walking off, he went to an oddly shaped rock, which clearly wasn't , as he took both hands and pulled the cleverly disguised tarp away, revealing one sexy red and black motorcycle I was itching to get my hands on. Started it up and zoomed out of there without so much as a look back. As I watched him leave this very unwelcoming place, I felt Cannon looking at me. "What?" I said, turning to him. "You have questions?" he simply replied, not sounding one bit like a question, more like a statement. "Loads, but the important ones are," I started counting on my fingers, "Are you sure about this little girl, only being cautious? Where is the safe house? Are there medical supplies for us? We can't keep using Addanon as our personal health/medical source. Also food? I'm starving. Last but not least, whose driving?" "I'm not sure of anything anymore. I'll explain later what I meant by that. We are on top of the safe house. Yes and I know. Yes. As am I. Do you have your license?" he answered like the smart ass he is. "Yeaaaa......." looking at him a bit side-eyed. This car is probably more luxurious than most people's houses and he was going to give it to me to handle. He had definitely gone mad. "Well, come on then. Here are the keys. I have to stay up top, for a bit longer, for an aerial delivery. You can chauffer them in, wake up, who can walk and carry in the others," he instructed while stretching out what I thought was the keys to me. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was only shaped like a fob. He grabbed my hand, pressed it against my thumb, then released it. "There you can start it, with your thumb print. Do not forget which one," dismissing me like I knew where I was going. He looked at me, noticing I hadn't made a move, and sighed, looking and sounded exasperated, "Dev go on. Get in. The navi' will guide you." Shaking my head at his vague, curt answers, wondering why details were so hard to come by with this guy, as I opened the driver-side door, and got in. The dashboard of this machine was like looking at a control panel on a spaceship. This egomaniac literally complicated getting a car to start. Knowing I would look dumb to him and most likely receive another answer that left me confused and annoyed with more questions, I decided to try on my own first. I looked around the steering wheel, which was really a circle screen popping out, more like a game control, and saw a small rectangular-shaped screen. I placed the thumb he scanned and it all lit up like Christmas. A circle which was the steering wheel also turned out to be the navigation, showing me to drive towards an incline. I swear if this white boy got me killed , I was going to haunt him. The circle was surprisingly easy to use, with arrows pointing in the direction, I just had to trace it and we were on our way. It was like playing pac-man and the safe house was the cherry. Almost to the bottom of the incline I started getting a mini heart attack, seeing nothing but ground, then like out of no where it moved. Sliding across revealing an entrance. The tunnel itself was not fancy, just a regular rocky wall. I looked back at the control panel when it beeped. There was a signal showing what looked like a little house and it said park. I almost panicked as I didn't know where the breaks were. Only to realize all I needed to do was lift my finger. Sigh, I am going to make Cannon pay for this. Guess he wasn't joking when he said we were on top of it. I was only in the garage and already impressed. Pristine tiled walls, with gold bordering. Down lighters lit up the room, showing me a door, so as to enter, I am assuming the actual house. Now the sucky part. I hate being woken up. I wonder if Addy is like that? Walking over to his side, I opened the door gently, stopping myself from cooing at how adorable they looked cuddled. Now to be the jerk, "Addy wake up. We're here." He sort of shifted and screwed his face. WelP, someone has absolutely no sense of endangerment. "Dammit Addy, wake up!" I whisper yelled, in hopes of not disturbing the kid. "s**t Dev, give me a minute to get my head on straight, I'm up," he complained in a sleepy tone. I rolled my eyes and went to the other side. Evony would be the easiest to get out. His ass better be alert by the time I am back. Geez, I have been on my own for too long. I sound like a grumpy old man. Just the simple idea of knowing I have to live with people, people who expect me to interact with them, has my skin crawling. I walked up to the door to find out how to get in, when I saw a finger panel like the car. Using my thumb again, the bloody thing bit me. I jumped in surprise, looking at my thumb. There was a little bead of blood so I sucked on it. Cannon, I am going to get you for this! The door slid open, thanking me for my assistance in creating a more secure environment. Of course, he has a smart house. Rolling my eyes, I went back to the car, gently guided her out and took her in. As I walked, the lights above came on brighter, while the previous ones dimmed. I came to a modern, yet homey living room. With three L-shaped sofas, each large enough to seat eight adults comfortably. I laid Evy down, fixed her to make sure she was comfortable and used a cushion to prop her head. She looked so young like that. The soot, the sheen of sweat didn't take away from her beauty, but did make me feel disappointed in myself for not being more help. Pushing the hair away from her face, I kissed her forehead, letting her know I would be right back, even though I knew she was knocked out. Heading back down the corridor, I saw Addanon through the door standing waiting with an air of undisguised disgruntlement. The door slid open for me, and that's when I realized the door was a one-way. "Finally," he grumbled, walking in, not taking the time to admire anything, then spun around, "Stay right there, I'm going to drop her off somewhere and come back to help you with Bren," then continued on his merry way, with Willow, not waiting for directions. I heard footsteps. Soon after, Addy came into view. The grumpy look did not go away, but he looked more awake. "Come on get the door, would yuh..." he said. I went closer and it slid open. We both headed to the car, seeing the glint of a platinum blond, before we heard his bored, chastising voice. "You both left him here alone. What were you thinking? He's been calm since the hospital, but I don't want this place to turn into a furnace." "Calm down, would yuh. I'm not a morning person, especially when it isn't morning," Addy droned, brushing his hair out of his face and fixing his man bun, while he continued to explain what we did, while he was on his tech mission, "We were worried he'd fire back up again, so Dev encase him, in an air tight seal encasing or something like that, I did what I did for your Dad, to the casing, so it keeps him, alive and us safe from the heat. Your driver was not having, the whole Cannon is on his way explanation, plus a smoky steam-releasing, naked eighteen year old. So we used the blanket he gave us, tied a toga for Bren, then did that. Dev said he made the casing as cold as possible without you. We were gonna ask you to add an extra layer once you came out, but you looked like a ghost and didn't really give us the chance." "Well, how resourceful of you two. I did check on him once I woke up, he was just warm. Oh, and we've been driving for close to seventeen hours, just informing you that an entire day has passed," Cannon relayed like it was normal telling people they'd lost an entire day. "Figured you ought to know why your so irritable and hungry. Slade told me it was like we were all in a coma. Willow woke up, her crying made him stop to get her something to eat and drink at a diner. She used the bathroom three times. Oh, the air delivery came. I got you all some clothes. Addy could probably have borrowed mine, but I wasn't sure if he would be comfortable. Judging from the weight loss on Bren, he would drown in them. Dev, I know I saw you with a bag, but we don't know how long we'd be here, so I got you some extra. Willow and Evy as well. Why don't you take the bags inside, while Addy and I take Bren." "Cannon, I swear you explaining s**t, just gives me more of a headache," Addanon exclaimed, making me nod in agreement. He rolled his eyes, not bothering to reply, getting ready to do what he said earlier. Addanon just sighed in resignation and went to help. By the time they struggled with Bren, placing him on another couch, I brought in the bags. Each felt like there was too much stuff in it. I do have big muscles, but this s**t was heavy. How did he get them down here? I must have said that allowed because he answered, "There's a lift." "Okay, well we'll wait until Evy wakes up, hopefully she'll have a way to, I dunno, revive Bren. In the meantime, I need a shower. Oh and thanks Addanon for healing our burns, they were a b!tch to deal with," Cannon said. Addanon looked at him confused, replying that he hadn't done anything. Causing Cannon to pause the strip show he was performing. "Then how are all of our injuries cured?" "It was me," her voice sounded like a scratchy melody. Still my rain in drought. We all turned, Cannon and I crowded her, grabbing her hands, asking if she was alright, or if she needed anything. Water was all she asked for and Cannon told Addy where to get it. How convenient a mini fridge is right in the living room. "Where are we?" Evony asked, looking in Bren's direction. While Cannon explained the hide away he took us to, she nodded absent mindedly. "Thank you for this. I know that our first meeting was brief. The information you received on the Fatum, could have led you down a different path, but instead you chose to use your time wisely and prepare for us. I truly appreciate your foresight and loyalty," gracing him with a smile. Looking at Addy, her expression got serious. "Thank you for protecting me. I know none of this is easy on you. I sense the struggle within you. I promise to strive to be worthy of you all, after my mistake." She then smiled at me, and kissed my forehead, as I knelt in front of her, "I am no miracle, but I hope, selfishly, you never stop seeing me that way." Looking back to Bren, "I need to finish what I started at the hospital. My light has cleansed his core. I just need to wake him up. Addy, would you kindly assist me?" Addanon moved towards Bren, as did Evy. She looked towards me and I knew what to do. I released the seal I had on him, but in my mind I saw it detach and fall like a blanket under him, in hopes he wouldn't singe Cannon's furniture. They copied the position they had back in the cell, and she kissed Bren again. A few seconds later, he glowed a serene white light and his eyes opened. His shaky hand was raised to touch Evy's face and we all moved in closer. Her tears dripped, like shiny little crystals, while she smiled and let out a little giggle. Grabbing onto his hand, taking it higher, rubbing her cheek on it. "You're an angel. Could this be this real?" Bren croaked. It sounded like he hadn't had a sip of water in years. "It's me, my flame, I'm here," Evy sobbed. "No, No!!!!!" he screamed. Trying to move away, but too weak, to do much of anything. Willow woke up and started crying, causing Addy to run to her and hold her. "You have to get away from me. He said he would kill you. He will find you because of me. He said the heat calls to him. That he would, he would, he would take it back from me. That he was the one true firelord. Please Angel. Please it hurts me, but you must let me go!!" he rasped. Fighting to pull his arm from her. Tears, as soon as they fell from his eyes, sizzled and evaporated. 'Enough!" Evony shouted, causing the child and Bren to quiet down."You are mine! Let him come. I will send him to his queen, as it should have been. He is not, nor will he ever be again, a host for the Earth's Core!" Then she softened her tone, moving closer to Bren, she kissed him again, a sweet peck that made me so jealous, "Listen to me, my spark and rest. I am not as angelic as I look." His breathing slowed again and the visible smoke ceased and he fell asleep as quickly as he woke. "Well, now that we are sure he will be fine. Why is there a greenery seedling with us?" Evony asked no one in particular, looking at Willow.
