Stepping onto the stage, making sure I’m on my mark. Curtains are still drawn, looking positively medieval, blood red velvet and gold trimmings everywhere. This is my life, I sighed.
Since I gained access to my queen command, Fero decided to put it to the test. I don’t know how, but he got me an audition to sing along with this really famous orchestra during their world tour. Not many words and only one performance per show. It wasn’t tiring or anything, quite the opposite really. It was exhilarating most times. Everyone is usually enamored by my strange melodic voice, as though bells could chime words, capturing their minds and hearts forever changing them for the better. They feel more positive and self-assured. One mortal even wrote an article saying that to see me perform was to know the equivalent to visiting heaven and he was fortunate enough to return to earth and spread the news. I thought it was a bit over the top, but definitely a confidence boost.
I was informed that the schools invited today were almost ignored by the government, and their arts programmes had little to no funding. It was sad really. Thinking that at least three of those boys were within those allotted seating areas. I wonder who the one seated in the balcony was? There was some gossip about a really rich man paying for the entire balcony, so his family wouldn’t be bothered during the show. Fero mentioned that the self-important mortal even raised a fuss when he was informed there were no private booths at the location.
The boy looked kind though, a bit preppy. Considering if that man is his father, I understand why he is dressed that way. Although, the bow tie does look adorable on him. I smile to myself.
No wait stop. Geez Ev…. get your head in the game.
This is practically your calling card to every being out there with your bloodline. You need more supporters. You need more people to confirm you are indeed the true ruler. Fero believes we need an army if I don’t find my elementals. With that little pep talk, I breathe in deeply, close my eyes and slowly count down from ten, releasing my breath slowly as I go. This always calms me, centres me and makes me see the clear goal. With the last of my breath expelled, I open my eyes, as the curtains begin to slide apart and I believe I am about to begin my performance, when suddenly........

Ev seems stressed and a bit odd, I think to myself, watching her do that breathing thing she does when distracted. I wonder what could have her so out of sync. Maybe she already senses some of our people out there, and she is trying to keep in the information until after the show. I wouldn’t put it past her. She said I am overzealous and like a bull in a china shop when it comes to finding newbies. It’s not my fault though. I had only just matured, and finished my training to be a general, before losing everything. My home.
All the celebrations in my quadrant came to a halt, when men I knew my father commanded barged in, snatching their seeds, making off with them. Lupa and I stood there in shock, when one of the younger ones, who couldn’t possibly have seed yet, ran up to me, I immediately shoved Lupa behind me and took on a protective stance. He came to a halt, revealing what I knew to be a message from my father. I knew this because air elementals, as strong as him, can whisper into a solid and seal it. Only the one who was meant to hear this message would. I knew it was important, and the panicked look on his face alarmed me further. Lupa stepped forward, signing me to relax, accepting the vessel. Then, as quickly as he arrived, the young man left. Lupa nudged me out of my stupor, encouraging me to unseal it…..
The squeaking of the equipment opening the drapes took me out of my memories. My eyes found her, right where she is supposed to be, but not at all with the brilliant expression I expected. I couldn’t walk out there. It took me so much time to convince the stage crew, being a behemoth of a man, long wild hair, and beard, practically feral. That, I would never get in their way or disrupt the performance, so I could stay with her backstage. However, it physically hurts not to be able to help her.
“Why does she look that way?” I heard a crew member sneer.
It was on the tip of my tongue to scream at the b*tch, that not everyone is always perfect, and to f-off, but that would require me taking my eyes off of Ev, and that was not an option right now. I can only hope that the voice she mentioned, her guide, does her job and sets her right. Here I am panicked, a few seconds short of doing the funky chicken to get her attention, when all of a sudden…………..

Child, listen to me, breathe, I know it is overwhelming, it is only because it is your first encounter with them. It won’t always feel this overpowering. Trust me my dear, you will surely quite enjoy the intensity one day, but right now you must not bask. It is intoxicating, to say the least. Feeling all that power thrumming through your veins. I’m positive you can tone it down long enough to get through your song.
My conscience keeps trying to draw me out of the flabbergasted, idiotic and embarrassing facial expression that feels as though it was stitched on my face. Someone switched off the spotlight, most likely one of the efficient light crew members noticed the unflattering way my tongue was sticking out of my agape mouth. Coming to my senses, slightly and slowly, I licked my lips as though to taste the rush of power I had just experienced. Those four boys were a lot more than just simple brother folk, that is for sure. It felt as though I had just eaten an entire Belgium five-flavoured chocolate double layer cake, with chocolate fudge drizzled on the top, times infinity.
Yes, yes darling, it was wonderful. I can’t wait for you to be older, and then you will truly understand just how right you are at this moment. But! You must sing now. You know the sole purpose of being on stage right now! Many shouted.
Owwww, alright alright, I replied. Her screeching finally woke me up, simultaneously giving me a headache. Not completely in charge of all my faculties yet, reeling off the system shock, I received and began my well-rehearsed calling card.

“Well, it wasn’t quite the beginning I expected, but once she got going I think I found my new favourite sound. What did you think, Hunnie?” Dad inquired. Following my silence, “Speechless huh hun, yup that’s it. That’s when you know you were truly moved. I feel happier and more alive than I have in a long time. It’s as though I have gained a new outlook………. Yes definitely. She truly has a euphonious voice.”
“A what Dad?” I queried quietly.
“Euphonious, it is about the highest praise a singer can receive,” he replied.
“Yoo-fow-nee-uhs,” I repeated. He smiled and complimented me, and settled back into his seat to watch the next set. I, however, know there is something I must do. I don’t know why, but there is water floating and it is telling me I need to follow the trail. I must.
Tilting my head slightly, I informed him I needed to use the bathroom. He offered to accompany me, but I refused. I was not sure what was happening, but I knew for sure, I could not include him.
Sorry Daddy…….

“Ev, what in the world happened out there, huh?”
She looked dazed. Maybe I was working her too hard. The shows, the training, all the while keeping up with the mortal pretence, by home schooling her and history lessons on our home.
“Ev, answer me dammit!” I reached out to her, resting my hand firmly on her shoulder, kneeling to attempt to look her in the eyes, she kept her chin down. “Ev, speak to me,” I pleaded.
“I sang the underlying message for them to meet you out back,” she explained.
“Ev I don’t care about that right now, I want you to tell me what happened earlier,” I insisted.
“The air was charged, there were a lot of them, some quite young, so be gentle. They will trust you with their home addresses so you can speak with their parents. See which belongs with us,” she automatically replied.
“Ev, do you need some time off? I know I have been working you hard recently, with the calling, if you like….” I trailed off as I saw her bright eyes glaring at me with annoyance.
“Fero! Please do as I say. They are children, go tend to them. I am fine. I have done my part, and now you must do yours. Do not allow my hard work to go to waste,” she commanded, as I taught her.
I bowed, “As you desire, your highness,” and walked away.

Phew, that was close. I truly hate commanding Fero. I always feel guilty afterwards.
"And rightfully so little one. He lives for you, his return, you keeping secrets." Many interjected snarkily, I might add, and retreated into my sub-consciousness, waiting for no reply.
Sorry Fero, there are just some things I do not want to share.
Deciding to meditate in my dressing room, I walked slowly towards it. I felt like I only had a taste of what those boys were capable of and needed time to think and centre.
**** Brennon’s Pov ****
Am I going crazy? I know I shouldn’t be doing this. This feeling, though, is overwhelming. I need to follow a trail of fire. I officially declare that my mother must have been on some hard-core drugs while she was pregnant with me, because there is no other reasonable explanation for it.
After skipping out while the lights remained low, ninja-ed my way backstage. Following, well fire. I have decided to have a conversation with myself.
Okay Bren, while you are playing mission impossible, you need to ask yourself if this is worth getting busted and in trouble. Is this worth Joey finding out from school, pretending to be the caring step-father he wasn’t and then kicking the crap out of you later?
Answer, nothing is truly worth that sh*t, but hey I can’t stop now.
Especially since I am not the only one crazy enough to make this attempt. I might as well have some fun, if I am going to be in the world of pain for the next few days.
“Well, hello there……..” I whispered in his ears.
**** Addanon’s Pov ****
“What the f*ck,” I squealed, muffled, because the jerk that startled me, covered my mouth and shushed me. He shushed me, the nerve. I glared at him, wishing the pretty sprouting flowers that led me this far would somehow grow vines and attack him.
Finally removing his probably germ-infested hand from my face, he whispered, “Awwwws, don’t be mad and if you keep staring at me like that, I will have to sadly inform you that I don’t swing that way,” he mocked.
“I was glaring first off…” lowering my voice because he shushed me, again, “Secondly, why are you back here, you psycho, you’re going to get us in trouble. Thirdly, even if I did swing that way, you would not be at the top of my list,” I mocked right back.
Rolling his eyes, like he has had enough of me already, he turns and continues to hide behind backstage props, going in the exact direction my flowers were leading me. My eyes widened, he could see them too. It has to be. I’m not hallucinating due to food poisoning after all.
“Hey wait up….” I whisper shouted, while doing my best to stay out of sight like him.
“Look man, it was fun an’ all, but I have something I need to do okay,” looking left and right, dodging behind a large dark blue sheet that most likely was a prop for a play, he sounded exasperated. I followed closely. He stopped staring at me, then closed whatever little space between us
Ever heard of personal space, egghead!? I screamed in my mind.
He gets in my face, the scrawny pretty boy, is trying to intimidate me. How laughable.
“Quit following me, alright. I was just messing around, but I really got to go. I don’t have a clue of what is waiting for me on the other side, but I have no desire for this cat and mouse game to continue. Now go away,” he was definitely trying to hold onto his patience there.
Arrogant S.O.B isn’t he?
“I am not following you, okay. I have my own path that I'm following alright. It just happens to be the same direction you're headed. Plus, I do not want to get caught either. I have a perfect record, risking it because of some weird a$$ed $hiznit I blamed on food poisoning, is not my idea of a good time either, alright, K-POP?” I hissed.
“You racist handyman,” he smirked.
Oh now, my blood is boiling. As I was contemplating the physics calculations on how to fit my foot up his a$$, which was conveniently turned to me, he put up his hand signalling for me to come on, dashing behind a cut out of the ocean.
There, we got another shock and many other questions.
