Episode Seven – “Shadows Close In”
Amara’s heart pounded as she stared at the man by the fountain. His voice was low but urgent, and she could feel the weight of his words pressing down on her.
“Why should I trust you?” she asked, clutching the flash drive tighter.
The man hesitated before pulling back his hat slightly, revealing a familiar face Jaden, the elusive tech expert rumored to have connections deep within the city’s underworld.
“I’ve been tracking this conspiracy for months,” Jaden said, his eyes scanning the dark corners of the park nervously. “What you have on that flash drive it’s proof of corruption and betrayal at the highest levels. People you once believed in are involved. If you go public with this, you’ll shake the entire city.”
Amara swallowed hard. “But why come to me? Why not keep this to yourself?”
“Because you’re the only one with the guts to act. Most are too scared, or too compromised,” Jaden answered. “But you’re in danger. They know you have the drive, and they won’t stop until they get it back.”
A sudden noise a crunch of gravel made both of them freeze. The distant roar of engines grew louder, headlights piercing through the darkness as a black SUV sped toward the park entrance.
Jaden grabbed Amara’s arm. “We have to move. Now.”
Heart racing, Amara followed him through winding paths and thick trees, shadows swallowing their footsteps. She tried to make sense of everything swirling in her mind: the secrets, the danger, and the stranger who might be her only ally.
“We need to get to a safe place where I can access the drive,” Jaden whispered as they ducked behind a broken bench.
Amara nodded, feeling a mix of fear and determination. “But what if they’re watching? What if this is a trap?”
“Then we’ll be ready. But first, we have to disappear before it’s too late.”
As the SUV’s engine faded into the distance, Amara knew her life had changed forever. The road ahead was uncertain, but one thing was clear: the truth was worth the risk.
