Episode Four – A Brother’s Secret
That night, Amara couldn’t stay quiet any longer.
She waited until their parents had gone to bed, then slipped into her brother Kanaan’s room. He was at his desk, headphones on, eyes glued to his laptop screen.
“Kanaan,” she whispered. “We need to talk.”
He jumped, pulling off the headphones. “You scared me. What’s wrong?”
Amara shut the door behind her. “Tell me the truth. What are you into?”
He blinked. “What are you talking about?”
“Someone came to me. He said your name is on a list. And if you don’t stop asking questions, we’re both in danger.”
Kanaan’s eyes darkened. “He approached you?”
“Yes. Who is he? What’s going on?”
Kanaan stood up, pacing. “I didn’t want to involve you. I’ve been investigating something about Dad’s past.”
Amara froze. “Dad? He died in an accident.”
“That's what we were told,” Kanaan said. “But I found files coded emails. Mentions of something called ‘Project Ember.’ I think Dad was part of something bigger. And now, someone doesn’t want me to know.”
Amara’s voice trembled. “So that guy… he was warning me because you’re close to the truth?”
Kanaan nodded. “They don’t warn if it’s nothing. They silence.”
A cold shiver ran through her.
