The Midnight Knock

Episode Five – The Midnight Knock The knock came again. Firm. Measured. Like whoever was behind the door wasn’t just waiting but expecting. Kanaan motioned for Amara to stay quiet. He reached into his drawer and pulled out a small, silver flash drive, shoving it into her hand. “If anything happens, keep this safe. Don’t open it. Just hide it.” “What are you talking about?” Amara whispered, panic rising. Another knock. This time louder. Followed by a voice. “Kanaan Obiora. We need to speak with you.” Not a question. A demand. Amara peeked through the curtain. Two men stood outside, dressed in dark jackets with no badges, no markings. One had an earpiece. The other was already turning the doorknob. “They’re not police,” she whispered. “I know,” Kanaan muttered. “Go out the back. Now.” “No she started, but he cut her off with a look that said *trust me*. Amara backed away, heart pounding as she clutched the flash drive. The door burst open. Two strangers stepped in. “Mr. Obiora,” one said, scanning the room. “We have questions about your father’s files.” Kanaan stood tall. “You should’ve knocked softer.”
