As if in a daze Trevor ascended the last few stairs and stopped at the corner of the outer bedroom wall which ran parallel to the railing. There he waited for what seemed to Bobby like eternity. Then Trevor risked a look which Bobby was waiting for. The instant he saw the little man's head he opened fire again. Chunks of plaster and thick dust rained down the staircase, almost choking Trevor. But suddenly they stopped and all either man could hear was the click, click, click of an empty firing chamber. Bobby had no more bullets. When Trevor listened for and did not hear the familiar clack of a new magazine being inserted into the weapon, he figured that out.
