Gavin's POV: First Meeting

564 Words
I could not shake the feeling of dread that had washed over me that day and into the night. I could not sleep. So, I thought maybe a walk would help ease my troubled mind. But I would have to wait until the rest of the manor was asleep before I could take my leave. The moon shone brightly and full into my window. I grab the candlestick and match from next to my bed lighting the candle to help light my path through the manor. But once I made my way through the door I blew out the candle and laid it down by the door for the only light I needed now was that of the stars and moon. As I made my way out to the meadow I could not fight the feeling as though something was watching me from the shadows. But that's when I saw a glimpse of something hiding in the woods. Once again I was overcome by the feeling of dread for if this is what I thought it too be death finally coming for me. If death is so cruel as to tempt me with beauty then, at last, let me set my eyes upon her once one before my time comes. Let me be welcomed to the end of life but by a midnight beauty.  “You there in the woods please step out into the light.”     I could sense their hesitation as though they were quite not so sure what to do. They stood still as a tree hoping that I was not calling them. So, I call them again, taking a step forward trying to get a closer look.  “Please stay back.  But shouldn’t that be my choice? Please just step out into the light, so I may see you better.  Trust me you won’t like what you see.  How do you know I may very well be different from others that you have met? Humans are all the same in the end all they want is to use us. Please, trust me.”     I held out my hand in hopes she would take it after all this was going to take a leap of faith. Much to my surprise finally, she stepped out into the moonlight. I was right for I had never seen such a beauty as hers. Her skin was almost bronze. Her hair was black was as a starless night and her eyes were pale blue like that of a sky on a clear day. She had tattoos on her face as well a crescent and strips on both of her check white as snow. The top of her head was two silver horns. I took a step back when I realized that she was something else completely not entirely human.  “ What are you? I told you that you wouldn’t like what you saw.”  As I looked into her eyes all I could see was fear. That’s when I realized that maybe she didn’t want to hurt me. But that's when I saw it. The mark of a contract. I had seen one before when I was only a child. Somehow though it didn't feel me with fear. I don't want to run. I wanted to know more about her. Desire to get closer to her only grew even if that mark was meant for me and she was to be my end in her arms. I could die happily.
