*Kane’s P.O.V.*
I dialed Cooper’s number and after the second ring, he answered.
“Are all of them with you?” I asked him.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Put me on speaker, please.”
“Okay, you’re on speaker, what’s going on Alpha Kane?”
“Deltas Cooper, Roman, Samara, Titus, and Ximena, your Luna wants you back here in three days. No more than three days.”
“But – is it really her? We still have a few packs left to visit.”
“Yes, and it’s not up for debate,” I growled. “You will return to the Blue Moon pack in three days.”
“Is that an order?”
“Yes, it’s an order. I don’t care what you have left planned, the pack will reimburse you for the money. But you will be back here in three days,” I growled, using my Alpha command on them. Even though they were halfway across the world, it still had effect on them.
“Yes, Alpha Kane,” they said in unison.
“Thank you. I will send Axel and Aryan to pick you all up from the airport.”
“Thank you, Alpha.”
“You’re welcome. See you then,” I said and hung up the phone. I walked back into the bedroom and found Nova still awake. I laid down on the bed next to her and wrapped my arms around her, soothing her instantly. She fell asleep pretty quickly after that.
*THREE DAYS LATER*
Axel and Aryan had left to go pick up their fellow Deltas from the airport. The trip would take about 3 hours, as it was an hour to the airport, and hour-ish to wait for them the deplane and find Axel and Aryan and grab their luggage, and an hour drive back to the territory.
Nova’s heat had ended last night, and she was happy and relieved. This morning she had literally shoved me out of the bedroom without so much as a kiss.
I was excited about having another set of twins, and I hoped they were one of each just as she did, but honestly, I just wanted them to be healthy. I’d be happy with whatever the Moon… Selene blessed us with, as long as they were healthy.
“What are you over there thinking about so hard?” Brielle asked, coming to sit next to me at the island in the kitchen.
“Nothing really. How’s the baby? How far along are you?” I asked her, changing the subject.
“They’re good, I’m 5 weeks along, so I just got the NIPT test done today. I can’t believe I didn’t realize it sooner, especially when I didn’t bleed after my heat passed.”
“What are you hoping to have?” I asked her.
“I’d like two girls and a boy,” she replied.
“Wait, you’re having triplets?” I asked, incredulous. “That’s almost unheard of amongst our kind. Can the NIPT even detect the sexes with triplets?”
“Dr. Reid says ours should be able to,” she answered right before her eyes clouded over.
I waited for a few minutes until they were back to their normal green color before prompting, “Well?”
“Since I just told Gunther, he said I could tell you. It’s two girls and a boy.”
“Congratulations!”
“Yeah. Dr. Reid is keeping an extra close eye on them, and me. She’s having me come in every week for checkups since she’s only delivered one other set of triplets.”
“Daddy!” I heard Caisson and Kiya shout as they came into the kitchen with my mom.
“Bri-Bri,” Kiya said, holding her arms up, wanting to be picked up. The twins had taken to calling Brielle Bri-Bri, and she liked the nickname.
“Hello, Kiya.”
“Babies in tummy?” Kiya asked, and I groaned.
Brielle looked at me with a questioning look.
“It looks like your boy might be her mate,” I said. Caisson did the same thing with Aileya when she was pregnant with Lyra, though obviously he wasn’t talking at that time. But he was attached to her hip until she gave birth. Ugh, my baby girl, my Princess has a mate already. Nova isn’t going to like this. Caisson’s already got Lyra as a mate, and now Kiya, too?”
“Speaking of Nova, how is she doing? I haven’t seen her come down, and I know her heat is over because you’re down here. Plus, I saw her kick you out of your apartment this morning,” Brielle added and giggled.
“She’s good, just tired, so she’s getting a little extra sleep. The Deltas are coming back today, so I’ll be getting her up in about an hour.”
“They’re coming back early. What’s going on?” she asked.
“Personal matters for Nova. She wanted them back today.”
Brielle nodded without further questioning.
“Baby,” Kiya said, touching Brielle’s stomach, earning a groan from Brielle.
“Wow, when they said we’d feel them kicking earlier than the first pregnancy, I didn’t think it’d be this early,” she grimaced.
“Kiya, you’re making the babies hurt Aunt Bri-Bri,” I told her, and she pulled her hand away.
“Babies in tummy. Mine,” Kiya said, letting out a baby growl that I couldn’t help but chuckle at.
Alpha Kane, the Deltas are about 45 minutes away, came Delta Cannon’s voice through the mind link.
“Gotta go get Nova up, they’re about 45 minutes away,” I said and looked at Kiya. “You be good, princess,” I said before turning to Caisson. “You be good for Grandma, you hear?” I asked him, and he nodded.
“I good,” he said.
I nodded and went upstairs to wake Nova. Once she woke up, she took a quick shower before changing into some black slacks and a teal and silver sweater. She put on her black flats.
“You ready?” I asked her, holding out my hand to her. She nodded and took my hand and I led her to conference room two.
Cannon, tell Axel and Aryan to bring them straight to conference room two when they get here.
Yes, Alpha. They should be pulling up any minute now. Actually, here they are now.
Good, we’re waiting.
I cut the mind link with him, then opened up a group mind link to Gunther, Jax, and Aileya. Gunther, Jax, and Aileya, be on standby with Axel and Aryan for conference room two. Nova is about to discover something major, and I may need all the help I can get.
Yes, Alpha, they replied in unison.
*Nova’s P.O.V.*
Kane and I stood in conference room two facing the door, and my anxiety was climbing higher and higher. I started pacing back and forth and twirling my hair. I picked at my fingernails until Kane told me to stop. I may be about to come face-to-face with my dad who was declared dead 8 years ago and with the Betas and Gammas of my former pack.
“Nova, it’s okay. Everything is going to be okay.”
“How? How is it going to be okay? If my suspicions are true, then I’m about to come face to face with what used to be five of the most important people in my childhood, and they ran away instead of running towards me when they realized I was alive!”
Kane had nothing to say to that, so he pulled me to him and I took in deep breaths of his scent to calm myself down.
There was a knock on the door before it opened and in walked my dead father and his Betas and Gammas, and a female I didn’t recognize. She was clinging to my dad, and I could tell that she must be his second-chance mate.
“Dad?!” I exclaimed, instantly becoming furious. He had aged, but it was definitely my father. I felt like throwing up.
“Nova…” he whispered.
“You’re supposed to be dead!” I yelled at him. “And you four! You were like family to me, too, and instead of running towards me with open arms upon discovering I was alive, you ran away like cowards!!! Did you not care about me at all? Did you even look for me when I was kidnapped?!” I screamed, fighting to keep Venus at bay.
“Of course, we looked for you! We looked everywhere, but every lead turned up nothing. But we still left no stone unturned. But the traffickers hid you well! And every pack we tried to talk to would not talk, especially Gibbous Moon.” Roman said.
“So why run away? Instead of the happy reunion we could have had, you ran. Why?” I demanded.
“We were scared. We thought you died years ago because we never found you. At first, we didn’t believe it was really you. Even your dad didn’t recognize you because of what you went through. You looked so different. So, your dad asked former Alpha Kaiden for a hiatus so we could search other packs looking for any other Nova Mae Leigh’s that were kidnapped. We asked many packs all over America. We didn’t even finish, but they all said the same thing: They’d never had a Nova in their pack, let alone a Nova Mae Leigh.
“We knew – because you spoke English so well – that you had to at least come from an English-speaking pack. So, we circled back to America, asking every pack. Some packs took a lot of convincing to talk to us; that’s why it took so long. We had to convince them that we meant no harm, and even showed a current picture of you to prove our point.
“The last pack we went to, the Black Moon pack in June Lake, CA was the one that pointed out the resemblance between your father and you. Alpha Declan and Luna Alice recognized you immediately and told us to come home. They suggested that if you questioned it, to do a DNA test to prove that Cooper was, in fact, your dad.” Titus finished up.
“When did you speak to the Alpha and Luna of Black Moon?” I asked.
“Yesterday,” my dad answered.
“So, after you spoke with Kane?”
“Yes. The flight was only roughly five hours from California back home, so we decided to go to California, which was our next stop anyways.”
“How many packs are in America alone?”
“Roughly 200,” Kane answered. “You only studied the packs in our state, which is about 30,” he added.
“Cooper,” he flinched when I addressed him by his name instead of ‘dad.’ Good. “Care to explain how you’re still alive when I watched you die in front of me when I was only 10?! I remember that day like it was yesterday.
“You were driving a long, deserted road in Sierraville and we were heading back to the pack, but we still about an hour out. Out of nowhere, a van was in the road sideways as we were going around a curve, and I remember your cursing because there was no way for you to avoid hitting it at that point. We hit it head on, t-boning it at 55 miles per hour.
“And then there were five people surrounding our sedan,” I shut my eyes, remembering that it was Lucy and the two other guards that helped Kane escape, and one other female and one male. “They commanded you to hand me over or they would kill you and Mom,” my voice cracked.
“You refused, and they shot mom in the chest with a silver bullet. You howled in pain, and I could hear the pack howling in the distance as they felt your pain and the pain of losing an important member of the pack… but you commanded me to stay in the car. I didn’t listen and as soon as I got out, you blocked their path to me. They demanded you to hand me over again, and again, you refused. So, they shot you in the chest, too. You collapsed immediately, and the last thing you said to me was, ‘I love you’ before I heard more howling in the distance.”
“Do you remember where we were coming from?” he asked, and I shook my head. “We were coming from another pack in Nevada City, California. We had been visiting because they were good friends and allies and my Wiccan friend had joined the pack with her mate, Khonsu.”
“Ariadne,” I said, suddenly remembering.
“We went because we had been trying to conceive again for several years with no luck. We thought she might be able to shed some light on our troubles that the doctors couldn’t. You had been begging for a sibling since you were two and a half.
“We had only been on the road for about an hour when the accident happened. After they shot me, I whispered, ‘I love you’ to you and then my heart stopped, and I had died, but by some miracle I woke up a few minutes later only to watch them shove you in the trunk of another sedan before taking off, after they injected you with what I’m assuming was wolfsbane because you screamed and then went unconscious.
“I managed to crawl over to your mom, my sweet angel, Avon…” he paused, taking a deep, shaky breath before continuing, “By some miracle she was still alive, but barely. She whispered sweet nothings to me, professing her love for me over and over again. Her last words, though, were, ‘Blue Moon.’ I was too delirious to know that she meant the Blue Moon pack –”
“Wait, how did she know? Was she…?” I began, cutting him off, but he shook his head.
“No, she wasn’t Primordial. Remember, Kylie was the chosen one. But she was a blessed wolf with the ability to see the future, but she only got visions when she was meant to. Eventually my wolf took over and got me the 50 minutes back to the Frost Moon pack before I collapsed in wolf form and shifted back to human form.
“As soon as the guards saw who it was, they alerted the Alpha and Luna and got me to the pack hospital where they removed the silver bullet that had just barely missed my heart but had grazed my left lung before lodging in my spine.
“My wolf was weak and so it took me weeks to heal and several doses of the healing serum before my wolf was strong enough to heal me faster. All I could do was replay the accident in my head, and my angel’s final words,” I looked at Kane when he said angel, but my father either didn’t notice or just ignored it.
“Blue Moon, Blue Moon, Blue Moon, I kept repeating to myself. Eventually, Luna Leah overheard me saying it, and she asked why I kept saying it. So, I told her it was the last thing Avon said to me before she died. And that’s when she said, ‘She must have meant the Blue Moon pack in Mountain City, Tennessee. There must be something there for you that she saw.’ So, once I was fully recovered, Alpha Andrew and Luna Leah contacted Kaiden and Kylie and asked if I could seek refuge in their pack.
“And before you get mad at them or Kane, they didn’t know who I was. They knew I wasn’t a rogue, even though my pack mark had disappeared by this time, and they didn’t question where I came from.
“They offered me medical services because they could tell I was depressed, and eventually I started talking to the pack therapist, who has since retired. I told them about what happened, and they gave me coping mechanisms to handle the trauma, pain, and loss I went through. After a year of being here, I started training to become a Delta, and I met Cassandra, my second-chance mate. I didn’t accept her at first, but I didn’t reject her. I decided to do it the old-fashioned way and take her on dates. After another year, I was finally able to accept her as my second-chance mate. By then, she knew everything.
“When you showed up here a year ago, I told her that there was no way it could be you, and that we were going on a hiatus to find out. She went willingly and supported me, us, every step of the way.”
“Oh, dad,” I cried out, crossing the room to hug him. Cassandra let go of him so he could hug me back and hug me back he did. He squeezed me tight, as if I were going to disappear on him.
When we pulled away, I slapped his arm. “That’s for second-guessing who I was,” I said before laughing. “Is she… Cassandra, were you born in this pack?” I asked her, and I looked into her eyes as she answered, “no,” and I gasped.
“What? What, Princess?” my dad asked me, and I smiled at the nickname he always called me when I was a child.
“Well, you know that I’m a Primordial… I have powers, obviously. One of them is sensing someone’s soul. And I can also sense other souls within someone.”
“Okay?” my dad said, confused.
“Dad, she’s pregnant,” I told him. “What does she smell like normally to you?”
“Watermelons, specifically watermelon jolly ranchers.”
“And what does she smell like right now?” I asked him.
He sniffed the air and gasped. “Honey. She smells like honey.”
“Dad, I’m not just sensing one soul, but two. And if I remember correctly now that my memory has been jogged, Alpha Andrew was your twin brother.”
“She’s pregnant with twins?” he asked, excited, and I just nodded.
“That means she’s at least a month along if her scent has changed. Cassandra, where are you from?”
“I’m a pureblooded Alpha female from the Buck Moon pack in Townsend, Tennessee. A small pack of about 450. They’re allies with this pack, and when my dad found out there was a pureblooded Alpha male here, my dad sent me here at the age of 30 to see if he was my mate. And he was.”
“You didn’t find your mate until you were 30?” I gaped and she nodded. “Wow. I’m so sorry. Am I correct to assume my dad was your first mate?” she nodded again.
“I admit it was hard at first when he didn’t accept me right away, but once he explained everything, I understood his hesitation and respected him even more.”
“This is your first pregnancy?” I asked.
“Yes, we’ve been trying since he accepted me, and we mated and marked each other.”
“Go see Dr. Reid. She is waiting for you,” I said, and they turned to leave. “And Dad?” He turned back towards me. “We have a lot to talk about, but I forgive you," I looked at the former Betas and Gammas. "All of you,” I added.
