CHAPTER 7 - The Luna Ceremony and Cat Fight

*Kane's P.O.V.*

    I led Nova to the top of the stairs, giving her hand a light squeeze of encouragement. We walked slowly down the stairs all the way to the bottom. The packhouse was empty except for the kitchen omegas who continued to prepare the food for after our induction ceremony.

    We continued to the open French doors and made our way to stand on the stage next to my parents.

    “Welcome, everyone, to the Alpha and Luna ceremony! Tonight, we are gathered to transfer the Alpha and Luna title to my son and his mate, Kane and Nova. I hope you all show them the same respect you have shown me and your Luna over the years.

    “Kane, please come forward.” I stepped away from Nova, letting her hand go as I stepped up to the table that help the golden dagger and chalice.

    “Do you, Kane Knighlock, swear to abide by the laws set forth by the Elders. Do you swear to be the best Alpha you can be, to serve and protect the pack from enemies known and unknown, and to lead by example?”

    “I do,” I answered. My dad grabbed the golden dagger, sliced his left palm, and let a drop of blood fall into the chalice. Then he passed me the dagger and I copied him. As soon as my drop of blood mixed with his in the chalice, a black glow appeared, growing brighter and brighter before vanishing.

    “The Moon Goddess has accepted Kane as the new Alpha of the Blue Moon pack!”

    Applause erupted throughout the courtyard, but my mom stopped them short.

    “Kane, please step back and Nova, please step forward.”

    I stepped back and Nova stepped forward towards my mom.

    “Do you, Nova Mae Leigh, swear to abide by the laws set forth by the Elders? Do you swear to be the best Luna you can be, to serve and protect the pack from enemies known and unknown, and to lead by example?”

    “I do,” she replied.

    My mom took the golden dagger, sliced her left palm, allowing a single drop of blood to fall into the chalice before handing the dagger to Nova. Nova took it, sliced her left palm and allowed a drop of blood to fall into the chalice. As soon as their blood mixed, a fiery red light appeared, growing brighter and brighter before disappearing.

    “The Moon Goddess has accepted Nova as the new Luna of the Blue Moon pack! I now ask you to welcome your new Alpha and Luna!”

    Applause, cheers, and howls filled the air. After The induction, I led Nova to the Alpha table, pulling out her chair to my right for her to sit before taking my seat at the head of the table.

    Kitchen omegas began bringing out plates of food for each table. Once everyone had a plate, we dug in. To say the food was delicious would be an understatement. The steak was cooked to perfection, savory, juicy and tender, and the potatoes and carrots were amazing. The pasta with herbs added a nice touch to the whole thing.

    After everyone finished eating, the tables were cleared and the music was started, everyone really started to enjoy themselves and drink from the open bar.

*Nova’s P.O.V.*

    Kane pulled me onto the dance floor, and we began to dance to Hero by Enrique Iglesias. We glided across the dance floor to the lyrics.

    “You are my hero,” I told him when the song ended, and we left the dance floor.

    He smiled down at me. “And you’re my angel. I love you, Nova.”

    “I love you, too, Kane,” I said sincerely.

    He pulled me into a kiss then, and I kissed him back just as fervently.

    “It’s time for the pack run angel. And then we can let our wolves have their alone time.” He wiggled his eyebrows, and I couldn’t help but giggle. I went upstairs to change into the silk robe and then went back downstairs.

    He took my hand and led us to towards the lake and we walked across a stone bridge to the other side before we came upon the tree line. I noticed many pack members following us, including the Betas, Gammas, and Deltas and his parents.

    “It’s time to shift into our wolves, angel.”

    I bit my lip. Dr. Vi how long can I still shift after conceiving?

    You can shift for the first month. Are you telling me –

    Yes, but keep it between us. Even Kane hasn’t figured it out yet. I’ll come see you first thing in the morning. I cut the mind-link and nodded to Kane before stripping and shifting into my wolf. Because it was only the second time I’ve shifted, it was quite painful still but not as much as the first time.

    I let Venus take the reigns and watched Kane’s jaw drop as he saw my fiery red wolf with black patches that was opposite of his.

    Kane shifted into Blaze and took the lead spot, and Venus took her spot flanking his right while a chocolate brown wolf flanked his left.

    Blaze howled into the sky, signaling it was time, and then he took off like a rocket, with Venus close behind him. One by one, wolves caught up as we slowed our pace.

    How far do we run? I asked Kane.

    The entire territory border, finishing back where we started.

    We continued to run and came full circle, ending up back at the very spot we had left. Venus was panting, trying to catch her breath, but I was proud she managed to make the full run.

    Everyone shifted back and dispersed, besides Blaze and Venus.

    Blaze led the way into the trees and Venus followed. They sniffed each other, and Venus started prancing around.

    Mate, mate, mate she sang.

    My dear Venus.

    Blaze.

    Whatever am I going to do with you, he shook his giant head playfully.

    Hmmm… Venus swished her tail across his muzzle and put her butt in his face. Blaze growled and mounted her immediately, pounding into her fast and hard until they came together, growling and panting as they did. Blaze knotted inside Venus, and they were stuck butt-to-butt for 15 minutes before he finally pulled out.

    Venus collapsed on the ground and Blaze curled around her. Despite us both being Primordial and of Alpha blood, Blaze was still a good foot taller than Venus. We laid like that for a little while before Blaze stood up, motioning for Venus to do the same, and we went back to our clothes, shifting and redressing.

    We walked hand-in-hand back to the courtyard where the Omegas were cleaning up from the ceremony. They bowed to us and continued cleaning as we made our way to the packhouse doors. We went upstairs to the Alpha Suite that was now ours. Kane picked me up bridal style as the door swung open. He carried me over the threshold before setting me down. I turned around and gasped.

    The room was decorated completely different than it was just a few hours ago. The couches were a grey-silver color and were facing the wall opposite of the door. There was the kitchen to my right and a round glass table between the kitchen and the opposite wall. The sliding doors led out to a large balcony that had teal outdoor furniture on it and it overlooked the courtyard and, beyond that, the lake.

    To my left was a wall with a door that was the coat closet. I walked further in and saw the teal and silver patterned rug underneath the couches with a glass coffee table that matched the kitchen table in design. The floors throughout were a dark grey wood. I walked down the hallway that was across from the kitchen and opened every door as I went.

    There was a linen closet, a guest bathroom, three bedrooms – one had an en suite bathroom, the other two were jack and jill bedrooms connected by a second bathroom. At the end of the long hallway was the final door, and beyond that, the master suite that was decorated in teals, greys, and silver. I went into the bedroom and opened the first door – a huge walk-in closet with our clothes already in it. There were two built-in dressers, one on each side. At the back of the closet was a vanity stocked with all kinds of makeup-y things.

    I went to the other door next to it and found a huge master bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, a walk-in shower with shower heads all over, and two sinks on a large silver and white marble countertop. The floor was dark grey tile.

    I turned around to face Kane, who was watching me intently.

    “Do you like it?” he asked.

    “I love it. It’s modern and perfect for us and our future pups.” I had to stop myself from placing my hand on my belly instinctually.

    He gazed into my eyes and then the biggest grin spread across his face, and I knew he knew then. “You’re pregnant?!” he exclaimed.

    I nodded. “I was wondering if you’d figure it out or if I’d have to surprise you with the news,” I said. “It’s only been 5 days, but I’m going to see Dr. Vi tomorrow morning.”

    “They should be able to be detected, Alpha pregnancies only last 4 months, not 5. So you’re the equivalent of about 14 days in a human pregnancy.”

    “I’m going to shower and get ready for bed,” I told him, and he nodded. He stripped and joined me in the shower, which turned into a s*x shower first before we actually washed ourselves up.

*THE NEXT DAY*

    Kane woke up at 4:30 for morning training, while I decided to sleep in until he was done. He woke me up after he showered and got dressed, and I got up and got dressed in some comfy jeans and a long sleeve sweater.

    We walked down to the hospital and were greeted by Dr. Vi.

    “Luna! Come on in!” He said, pulling me into an exam room. “Now, you know I have my OB license, but I really think you should see the pack OB-GYN, Dr. Reid. She has more experience than I do, and she specializes in strictly OB-GYN whereas I do everything. But, if you see her, I’d love for you to update me afterwards!”

    I looked at Kane, who nodded in agreement with Dr. Vi. I sighed. “Is she free right now?” I asked.

    “She’s actually waiting for you,” he smiled and opened the door, leading me to a building attached to the pack hospital. “This is the OB office,” he said, bowing before he left.

    “Luna Nova, right this way,” came a female voice as a door opened. Kane and I followed her to an exam room.

    “Alpha Kane, Luna Nova. I’m Dr. Alicia Reid, the pack OB-GYN. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” she held out her hand and I shook it. “So how far along are you?”

    “Um…” I bit my lip. “Six days if I conceived when I think I did.”

    “Very well, we will have to do a transvaginal ultrasound then. I will step out of the room, if you could get undressed from the waist down and cover yourself with this,” she handed me a paper sheet and left the room. I got undressed, hopped up on the table and covered myself with the sheet.

    There was a knock at the door and Dr. Reid re-entered. She turned on the ultrasound machine and slid a condom over the wand and put gel on it.

    “You’re going to feel me touch here,” she said as she placed the wand in between my legs, “And I’m going to insert it. Just lay back and relax. You can look at the TV on the wall to see everything I see.” She slowly inserted the wand, moving it around.

    She stopped and began pressing buttons on the ultrasound machine when a black blob appeared on the screen with a tiny white blob inside of it. “Based on the measurements, you are approximately 6 days along, or the equivalent to 16 days in human pregnancy.” She moved the wand around some more and a second blob appeared on the screen. I heard clicking as she measured it.

    She measured the size of my uterus as well and printed of pictures of the twins. “It appears that you are pregnant with twins,” she told me, and I nodded. Kane had the biggest smile on his face.

    Dr. Reid finished up and gave me instructions on how to eat healthy so I still gained the weight I needed to gain and maintain. She gave me prenatal vitamins and told me to come back in 3 weeks for another ultrasound.

    “This stays between us,” I told Kane as we exited the office. We went to show Dr. Vi the ultrasound photos before going home.

*THREE WEEKS LATER*

    “Kane! We’re going to be late!” I called out from the living room. He came rushing out of the bedroom.

    “Sorry, all this training is making my clothes not fit properly,” he complained, and I laughed out loud.

    “Sounds like we both need a shopping spree,” I told him.

    “Eh, I’ll just send Alex to get what we need,” he said, placing a hand on my now almost visible baby bump. I nodded and grabbed his hand and we walked to the OB office. We entered and were taken back immediately.

    Dr. Reid weighed me and took my vitals, then ushered me to an exam room.

    “You weigh exactly what you should weigh for your size and gestational time frame. Very good. Today, we’re going to do a transabdominal ultrasound, so I need you to lift up your shirt and undo your pants button.” I followed her directions and laid back, rubbing my abdomen quickly. Without anything covering it, you could definitely tell I had a baby bump.

    “You are a month along, which puts you at about 10 weeks human gestation, so I’m also going to do an NIPT test which will test for genetic disorders. Would you like to know the sexes of your babies as well?”

    I looked at Kane and his eyes lit up, so I nodded. “If you can tell from the test, yes please.”

    “Of course,” she said and then applied gel to my abdomen before placing the transducer on it. She began moving it around and the tiny blobs were now much larger, and you could make out the arms and legs and head. She printed off pictures and began pressing buttons to measure them. “You’re measuring right on track for a month, now, the NIPT test should only take about two hours to come back,” she told me as she wiped the gel off my abdomen.

    A nurse came in and drew blood, and then we left. “Your scent has finally changed, angel. Instead of smelling like vanilla and roses, you smell like strawberries and lilies.”

    We walked into the packhouse to find a catfight going on.

    “He’s my mate!”

    “He was my mate first!”

    “You rejected him!”

    Hair was being pulled and fists were being thrown.

    “STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING!” I yelled in my Luna voice. Both girls stopped and allowed the pack members to pull them away from each other while the rest of the crowd disappeared.

    “What is the meaning of this?!”

    “She stole my mate!” Jane yelled.

    “No, you rejected him, and I was his second chance!” Brielle yelled back.

    “You’re nothing but a newborn!”

    I turned to the male. “Gunther, what is going on?”

    “Jane rejected me two weeks ago on my 18th birthday because I was not ranked. Two days ago, I found Brielle, who turned out to be my second chance mate and she accepted me for who I am. We mated and marked each other that night. Jane saw us walking through the packhouse together and freaked out.”

    “Jane! You’re lucky Gunther isn’t ranked, yet, or you’d be banished. But you better watch yourself because we will not tolerate this kind of behavior! Get out of my sight!” I yelled to her, and she ran off, crying.

    “What do you mean, yet?” Gunther asked.

    “Kane, I think it’s time,” I told him. We had chosen our Beta and Gamma after a month of debating between a few picks.

     Blue Moon pack members, tonight we will be announcing our Beta and Gammas. This ceremony is mandatory! Kane sent out a massive mind link. Because tonight was the full moon, we had to do the transfer of power tonight since neither picks were of ranked blood
