CHAPTER 13 - The Reveal

*Nova’s P.O.V.*       I was sitting in Dad and Cassandra’s house. It was three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, and a half bath downstairs with a large, upgraded kitchen, a living room, and a dining room. It was the perfect size for them, as long as they only had the twins that is.     It was just past noon now, and we were talking and catching up. They of course had already heard my background, so we skipped over that and let my dad tell me what he’s been doing since he came to Blue Moon while Cassandra was anxiously awaiting the results of the NIPT.     “I started working for Kaiden at the local mechanic shop he owns. I love it. As much as I loved being Alpha, and as hard as it was taking orders from another Alpha, I managed to settle down and get into the swing of things. My wolf didn’t take long as I thought he would to recognize Kaiden, and now Kane, as our Alphas.     “It was like… I don’t know. I was born to lead but once I settled in after having thought I lost everything, it became easier to follow. And then I met Cassie the day she arrived, and I knew she was my second chance.     “I had already been here for a year at that point, and accepted the death of your mother and you, as well. But I wasn’t ready to open my heart to another when I met Cassie. At the time, I didn’t want another mate, but my wolf disagreed, so I decided to do it the old-fashioned way. We dated for a year, got to know each other, and I slowly fell for her.     “I didn’t tell her right away what happened to you and your mother, it took a couple months, but when I finally did, she completely understood. After a year, I had completely fallen for her, and accepted her as my second chance mate. We got married three years ago.     “She wanted children, of course, but I was hesitant after what happened to you and your mom. I was scared. I knew you were Primordial, and I knew that any children her and I would potentially have would be, as well. But about a month after I accepted her as my mate, she and I talked long and hard about it, and we decided to try. We mated and marked, and we’ve been trying for 6 years.”     “You two didn’t fully mark and mate right away, how did both of you get through her heats? It couldn’t have been easy,” I said as I remembered my first heat.     “It wasn’t easy. My wolf was going insane every time, but I had enough control. She did ice baths, pleasured herself while I would pleasure myself, and we’d just hold each other.”     “Okay, ew, Dad I didn’t want to hear about you m**********g,” I groaned.     “Well, you asked a question and that’s part of the answer,” he chuckled.     Cassandra’s eyes haze over, and then she is smiling from ear to ear.     “So, what’s the verdict?” I asked.     “One of each,” she says, and my dad pulls her into a kiss.     “Yes!” he exclaims after breaking the kiss.     “Dad, I have something to tell you,” I said finally after letting them have their moment of joy. He turns and looks at me just as there’s a knock on the door.     He gets up and answers it, gasping as he sees Kane with the twins standing on the other side of the door. He clears his throat and steps to the side, motioning for them to come in.     “Dad, these are your grandchildren. Caisson Harrison and Kiya Marie,” I tell him.     Caisson looks and me and furrows his brows like he’s thinking. “Mommy’s daddy?” he asks, and I nod.     “What his name?” Kiya asks.     “His name is Cooper, but he’s your grandpa so you can’t call him that,” I say, laughing.     “But grandpa there,” Caisson points in the direction of the packhouse.     “Yes, buddy, but you have a grandpa from Mommy, too,” I tell him, and he furrows his brows again.     “Okay,” he says happily and reaches his arms up to my dad to be picked up.     My dad picks him up easily, grinning.     “How old are they?”     “They just turned one on the 11th,” I told him.     “Dang, I missed their birthday?! I’m a bad Papa,” he says, giving himself a nickname for the twins.     “Papa?” Kiya asked.     “Yes, princess, it means grandpa, too,” I say, and she smiles.     “Who dat?” Caisson asked, pointing to Cassandra.     “Don’t point, Case, it’s rude. That’s Cassandra, or Cassie, Papa’s wife.”     “Mommy’s mommy?” Caisson asks.     “No, not mommy’s mom,” I answered, and Caisson furrowed his brows again, confused. “Mommy’s mom went to be with the Moon Goddess a long time ago,” I tell him.     “Oh,” his face falls.     Nova, what do you want them to call her? My dad asked through the mind link.     I really don’t know, I responded truthfully.     As if reading our thoughts, Kiya asks, “What we call her?”     I see Cassandra move in my peripheral and glance in her direction; she’s shifting her weight from foot to foot, clearly uncomfortable.     “Cassandra, what would you like them to call you?” I ask her.     “Cass or Cassie is fine. I don’t want to take the title from Avon.”     “Cassie!” Kiya cries out, reaching her arms up.     “Kiya, she can’t pick you up, she has babies in her belly,” I tell her.     Kiya grins and places her hands on Cassandra’s belly. “Babies!” she yells.     “Yes, you will have an aunt and uncle, just like Aunt Kris.”     Caisson and Kiya both furrow their eyebrows in confusion.     “They are going to be mommy’s half sister and brother. That means we have a daddy in common, but not a mommy,” I explained.     “I hungry,” Kiya said, and Caisson nodded in agreement.     “Alright, let’s go get you two some lunch then,” Kane said, taking Caisson from my dad.     “Nova, you can go with them. We can talk more later,” my dad said, and I nodded.     “Okay,” I said, and he pulled me in for a tight hug.     “I’m so glad to have you back, Nova,” he breathed into my hair.     “Me, too dad, me too.”     Kane took my hand and we walked to the packhouse and into the kitchen. “A snack for the twins, please,” he says to Emily, one of the kitchen omegas. She nods and gets to work fixing up some fruit and raw veggies.     “May I have some fruit, please?” I ask, suddenly hungry. She nods and after she sets the plates in front of the twins, she fixes me a bowl of assorted fruit.     We start eating and Kane steals a strawberry from my bowl. “Hey!” I smack his hand away. “Mine,” I growl, and he laughs, holding his hands up in surrender.     Once we finish eating our snack, we head upstairs to the apartment.   *THREE DAYS LATER*       Kane and I were making our way to Dr. Reid’s office. The twins were with my dad and Cassandra as they wanted to get to know the twins more, though they obviously didn’t know where we were going.     “Alpha, Luna,” Dr. Reid bowed in greeting. “Right this way,” she says and takes us into the exam room and hands me a paper sheet before leaving the room. I undress from the waist down and hop up on the table, covering myself with the sheet just as there’s a knock at the door. Kane opens it for Dr. Reid before shutting it behind her.     “Alrighty, let’s take a look at these babies,” she says as she prepares the vaginal transducer. She touches her hands to the inside of my thighs before touching the transducer to my s*x before inserting it.     I wince but say nothing as I stare at the TV screen across from me. She moves the wand around and suddenly two black blobs with white blobs inside them appear on the screen. My blips. My twins, my new babies.     “You’re sure about the day you conceived?” she asked as she measures each sac and twin. I nod in response as she glances at me. “Well, these two appear to be growing faster than your average Alpha wolf pups. I trust that you know when you conceived, but rather than measuring 14 days in human gestation they are measuring three weeks in human gestation.”     “What does that mean for them?” I ask.     “They may just be large pups. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, Luna.” She prints off some ultrasound pictures and hands them to me. “Come back next week, same day, same time.”     I nod. “Yes, Dr. Reid,” I say as she gets up and leaves the room for me to get dressed.   *THREE WEEKS LATER*       I groaned as I looked in the mirror. My baby bump is quite obvious now. I have been hiding it with loose, baggy shirts. Today is the day we get our fourth ultrasound and the NIPT test to find out the sexes of our new set of twins.     Dr. Reid printed the ultrasound pictures at the end. My babies were still large for their gestational age, but given my ability to sense souls, Dr. Reid believed I was spot on about when I conceived.     I’m impatiently awaiting the results of the NIPT now. It’s been almost three hours. I try to tell myself Dr. Reid is probably just busy, as there are after all, other pregnant she-wolves. I knew Cassandra had an ultrasound today, too, and Brielle. Because she was carrying triplets, Brielle was being seen every week as well.     Luna Nova? Came Dr. Reid’s mind link.     I braced myself. Yes, Dr. Reid? I asked.     I’m sorry to keep you waiting, but Cassandra and Brielle’s appointments were back-to-back, and I’m just now getting the results of your NIPT.     And? I prompt her.     It looks as if you are having one of each again, she tells me.     Thank you! I exclaim through the mind link.     Kane comes into the apartment then and I couldn’t help the smile that formed across my face as he looked at me.     “I take it you finally got the results?” he asked, and I nodded.     “One of each again,” I tell him, still grinning.     “Really? Yes!” he cries out and I can’t help but giggle at him.     “I think I know the perfect names for them,” I tell him.     “Oh? Do tell,” he responds.     “Kaiden Cooper and Kylie Leigh Knightlock,” I tell him, and he grins.     “I love it,” he says, kissing me.     “And I love you,” I tell him, kissing him back. “Now, how do we reveal it to our parents?” I ponder out loud.     “Give them a gift bag with the respective colored onesies in it and a piece of paper with the names on them?”     “That’s actually not a bad idea,” I admit. I grab a piece of printer paper and neatly rip in in half, writing the full names on each piece before folding the up neatly. “Now, let’s go get the onesies and gift bags,” I tell him.     We leave the packhouse and just go to a small store in the pack territory. I pick out two gift bags, one teal and one silver and some tissue paper. Then we find a cute pink onesie with a black tutu attached that says “little sister” on it that we both agree on.     We look through the baby boy’s clothes, and I sigh, exasperated after finding nothing. Then Kane comes up to me with a blue onesie that has a black bowtie printed on it that says, “little brother.”     “It’s perfect!”     We go up to the register and pay for everything and then head home to set it up. It’s almost dinner time when we finish, so we go downstairs each carrying a gift bag.     After dinner, Kane stands up and clears his throat. “Mom, Dad,” he says.     “Dad, Cassandra” I say and all four of them look at us with confusion written on their face.     Kane walks over to our dads and hands them the gift bag. His dad takes it and pulls out the tissue paper. My dad reaches in and pulls out the onesie. Everyone in the room is silent for a beat and then all four of them exclaim, “You’re pregnant?!” in a very excited tone.     I nod and say, “There’s something else in there.”     Kaiden reaches in and pulls out the piece of paper and reds it out loud, “Kaiden Cooper Knightlock.”     They both look at us. “You’re naming him after us?” my dad asks as tears prick his eyes. I just nod in answer. Both men get up and come hug us.     “Mom,” Kane says, and I walk over to her and hand her the gift bag and she gasps before even opening it.     She pulls the tissue paper out, reaching in to pull out the pink onesie and gasps again before reaching back in the bag and reading aloud what the paper said, “Kylie Leigh Knightlock.” She jumps up and grabs us in a hug, tears flowing shamelessly.     Everyone in the packhouse claps and cheers at the news. My dad comes up to us.     “Leigh?” he asks, his voice cracking.     “Kylie Avon didn’t have the proper ring to it, but I had to incorporate Mom somehow,” I choke out as I fight back my own tears. My dad pulls me into another hug and this time, his tears flow as he silently cries.     “Thank you,” he says as he pulls away and wipes his eyes. He walks back over to Cassandra, who is smiling but I can tell she, too, has tears in her eyes.     Cassandra gets up and walks over to me. “I think that’s a wonderful way to honor your mom,” she tells me before she hugs me. I’m caught off-guard but hug her back. “May I speak with you in private?” she asks, and I nod.     Kane is watching our exchange. “Use your office, Nova,” he tells me. I nod and lead Cassandra to the elevators, which we ride up to my office.     We enter, and I shut and lock the door behind her so no one can burst in unannounced.     “What’s on your mind, Cassandra?” I ask as I sit in my desk chair. She sits across from me in one of the grey chairs.
