Sometimes envy only destroys a person, but in fact, many of the times it kills whatever comes near it. --Oct 26, 1956-- The seasoned leaves of Okahama's trees illuminated the bland colours of the village. The soft fluttering of winds slid past the calm stagnant rivers. The old were quite lively, and the young, very obedient. This village faced no drawbacks or problems aside from not knowing much about the world outside of Okahama. Marriages were sanctioned to the point where ceremonial rituals would be held in evenings every time there was one. Fireworks, food stands, and cultural dances; these were all of the few things that took place the night of every wedding. The well-known family of the Kiwasawa residence is in pursuit of one of the most breathtaking courses in life, their young son, Kyuosuke Kiwasawa and the daughter of norm villagers, Rin Takadashi; are getting married. The celebration lasted for a while, then within a few months some issues had arose. --Dec 17, 1967-- Somethings were uncalled for, and the young couple had many one-sided arguments. Rin was a shy girl, too weak in the sense that she could not stand up for herself. She never satisfied the greedy and selfish needs of her husband, Kyuosuke. A single mother from the village was hired to work for the family, Rin's goals contradicted independency. She worked day and night, trying to do whatever she can to please the love of her life. Yet again and again and again, she went from being mentally abused to physically being abused. By the time their son, Keitsuke, had been born; Kyuosuke became tired of Rin. "How many times have I told you!? Do you not see that this isn't cold enough?!" Kyuosuke shouts, while thrashing a glass onto the floor. "When will you ever learn, you good for nothing woman! Get out of my face!" He yells, while storming out on the frightened and fragile Rin. Day in and day out, Keitsuke had to witness his mother being tortured mentally and physically, over and over again. Until there came a time, a time in which Rin had been sent to a hospital. Her body seemed bruised all over, but her feet and arms were rather cold and shaky. That's when the abuse she went through was publicized. A contract was signed by Kyuosuke, an oath that guarantees the safety of his wife. Although he might have looked unusually friendly in front of other villagers, he had been burning with rage because of what Rin had done. That night when they went home only one thing was done...... "You told them about what happened to you, even though it's all your fault!?" Kyuosuke rants as he grips her by her hair and latches her on to the kitchen counter. At the time, Keitsuke had been too young to understand what was going on; but the mere agony and screaming Rin was in on that night, stole away at some of his ignorance. A burst of tears was made heard by the young child as his mother begged her husband to not do what he was about to in return of her "betrayal". "Your good for nothing useless of a hand deserves some special treatment!" Kyuosuke shouts. Within a matter of seconds he cut a finger off of Rin's hand. Shortly after he had, she passed out. He was given enough time to burn close her wound place her in bed and act as though nothing had ever happened. The very next morning she went back to work as if nothing had happened, she didn't care at all about what her husband had done to her; she loved him too dearly to be able to retaliate against him. She acted more like a slave than a wife, however, even though she was fine at doing the little things Kyuosuke kept complaining about; she had a strong resolve, giving up was never an option. No matter how she's treated, she would go the distance just to please her husband. After all, the only one she believed loved her and she had had, was him. Over time, Keitsuke witnessed the distance that had developed between the two. Whenever there was any contact of physical or emotional behaviour, it always resulted in a form of injury. Rin cried endlessly day after day, combing her hair as she stared herself in her bedroom mirror and repeated, "I know he loves me." However, one day that all....changed. Kyuosuke lost all interest in his wife, coming near her was agitating enough for him. Never did he once smile to her after the incident with the hospital. Okahama was once again in a state of prosperity, spring is finally here. At night, the winds would tease the top of the many different flower fields. Rin had been grabbing ripe vegetables from the gardens she owned. Midnight, yet Kyuosuke had not come home yet. Where could he be? That was what she was thinking. There is however, one place her husband liked going the most. Ironic enough, he never let anyone else but him go to this place. This was the farm built behind a few trees near the rear end of their gardens. No one knew that there was something back there, but the Kiwasawa and Kagamine family knew exactly where this farm was. It was the original farm first built in this village, carries the most numerous amount of animals. Rin felt a distance her husband had from her, so this prompted her to go check of Kyuosuke was there, up in the farm. At first, she could only hear the sound of boar screaming as they fought each other over a few bites of food. She crept towards the back end of the farm, and saw something that tore her heart into pieces. A man and a woman were seen together, her husband Kyuosuke had been cheating on her. Immediately after she had seen the affair, she quickly ran back towards the house; for the next few hours, she contemplated her existence and thrashed her room. Nothing but a broken mirror smeared in blood remains partially in tact. Her tears flushed themselves out of her weary eyes. Doesn't he love me? Doesn't he care about me? Do I mean anything to him? I hate myself for not being good enough for him. These were the thoughts and questions Rin was having simultaneously at the expected return of her husband. Days went on and on, from weeks to months then years. Each and every single night for a few years, Kyuosuke would be having an intimate relationship with a woman; unbeknownst to him, very much of what he did was within the knowledge of his wife. One day, Kyuosuke fell ill with a disease, decades had passed since he used to have affairs; by then Rin lost all hope in herself but still did everything for her husband's sake. No matter how unappreciative he was of her, she would never disobey him. Keitsuke grew older, and he witnessed many times, the brutal handling his father had done with his mother. A part of him was left scarred, ultimately, he wasn't able to do much. After Kyuosuke died due to the illness, Rin stayed locked up in her room. She sang to herself and showed no expression to others. She was left in a devastated state, her mind no longer stable, and her one true love, dead. She grew older over a period of time, yet there was no change. In fact, things had only gotten worse. Knowing his mother's condition, Keitsuke hired a widow who had with her a young daughter. Up on the farm, near their house, lived a couple of close friends. Hiroko Kagamine and his mother Nanami. Over the years, a close bond was developed between Kyuosuke and Hiroko. However, after Hiroko found out more about the way Kyuosuke deals with his wife; a sense of disgust was left in Hiroko's heart. What only remained was the sympathy Hiroko had for Rin. If she ever needed anything, he asked her to tell him. A young hard working farmer he was, and he was quite proud of it. His perspective on Rin changed after Kyuosuke had died. Keitsuke ended up in a marriage with a European foreigner, it was love at first sight for him. Keitsuke's attention went from being fully devoted to his mother, to his wife Alice and his children James and Reina. This bothered Rin, she had no one left who cared for her. She felt alone and pain engulfed her sanity. "Is there no one in this world who cares for me anymore?" This was the question she started humming to herself on a daily routine. Sitting in front of her broken mirror, constantly worried about her stagnant life. Eventually, her sorrow turned into anguish. A fire was lit in the heart of this woman. She began to scold Keitsuke's wife, over and over again. Telling her how she didn't do something the way she wanted it to be. The same went for the house maid, Rin physically abused these women. Keitsuke didn't know what to do, Alice began to feel enmity and unbearable pain because of her mother in law. "C-Can't we leave this house!? Do we have to live here with that old hag!?" Alice shouts while bursting into tears. Keitsuke was upset, and too tired to revolt against his wife or correct his mother's wrong actions. He felt too sad to tell his mother anything, after all, he's the only one who knew all the pain she went through because of his father. Then in the year 1999, Keitsuke left with his son James. To 'give his son a better education', was the excuse he used to get out of the troubles he was dealing with. Ever since James and Keitsuke left, Rin made things end up in a worse condition for the family. Alice, Rin, Nanami, Reina, and Nanami's daughter, Akane; these were the only people left to live in the Kiwasawa residence. Whether it was an old man or a young woman, it was their hands that fueled the hatred in Rin. Her hands were worn out, bruised and she even had one finger missing. Her fingers looked more rigid than that of a a man who worked as a manual labour. It annoyed her, Alice, Nanami and even the young Akane; they all had soft and slender fingers. While Rin's were abused, day in and day out Reina saw her grandmother shout and abuse Alice and Nanami. She was old, but not so much as brittle. Her jealousy infuriated her and forced her to engage in actions she would never think of doing. Then finally, two incidents occurred unbeknownst to the other villagers. Rin saw Alice and Nanami feeding the animals that belonged to the farm behind the trees of the vegetable gardens. Rin had a bit of attachment to these animals, so she smiled for once in a long time seeing as how they were being taken care of by the hands of these women. However,...she felt the need to do the same thing, and that's when the madness begin. Rin tried grabbing hold of some vegetables and feeding the pigs. They resisted, and that's when she realized that it was cause of her hands. Within a few moments, she struck Alice and Nanami with a shovel that was pierced in a stack of hay resting next to the fence of the pigs. "You filthy women! They want you to feed them cause of your hands! Then here, I'll feed them what they want, your precious fingers!" She yelled psychotically while laughing away at their corpses. To cover up these murders Rin created a lie about Reina's mother when she told her granddaughter. Nonetheless, she put fear into the heart of Akane, who is to now be devoted to whatever she asks of her. Initially, the village had no clue about any of this. Neither did Hiroko. At first, Rin didn't know how to deal with this secret, but she started to lose her sanity and simply manipulated the thoughts of Reina and Akane. Kyuosuke used to be a doctor working at the Retsuro Hospital, located in the far South of the village. Kyuosuke kept many utensils of his locked away in his closet, to her advantage Rin was able to use his equipment to overpower her enemy. She had paralysis fluids and other fluids prepared to put someone to sleep. Rin made this a habit, until one day she realized that although she would secretly assign Akane to roam the village during the evening to capture a prey; a stench leaked from the dead bodies of her victims and spread precariously. Within a few weeks to this disposition, Rin spoke with Hiroko. She pleaded him to take responsibility of all animals located on all the farms. Considering the situation the village had sprung into it seemed quite weird that a person would request such a thing. Furthermore, Rin sent Akane to get permission from Hiroko to be able to take the stock of lemons hanging from his trees, this was how the scent of the fruit covered all traces of the smell of blood left behind by Rin. Time passed, and Rin grew older, the villagers never knew of Rin's murders until she gave a hint to the village by giving the mutilated body of Daichi and a message written in blood. Her crave no longer consisted solely of murder, but her weak body now insisted on canabollistic methods of satisfaction. Rin no longer had the youthful body she possessed years ago, her body weakened. However, her desire to eat on the living flesh and to drink the blood of human gave her an unwavering will of power. For a few months in between the incidents of the 'Stench', Rin felt that her body needed to rest and remain in one area. This time she remained in the farm located behind the trees of her garden, whereas the new killer would now become Rin's puppet, Akane. Before Akane had become the killer, the disappearances of the villagers were happening at a slower pace; but now that Akane was responsible for the killing, her youth came to her advantage. The decision was that Akane would kill the people and Rin would feed on their bodies after cutting the fingers of these corpses off and feeding them to the pigs. Rin's body looked very frail, thin, and flimsy. Her voice lost its high pitch, and her mouth had a mix of saliva and blood leak down each side of her lips. Her back was hunched and her body seemed so vicious and frightening that her very appearance would scar the eyes of those who cast laid vision upon it. This was the tragic truth behind the 'Stench'. In the end, Rin brain washed Reina in the sense that she told her to never feel comfortable around any person. Whether it is a family or friend, Reina kept to herself, away from everyone. Reina only had her grandmother left with her, and to keep her granddaughter from knowing about her atrocious actions, she left the house and stayed cooped up away in the farm behind the trees. Her game of slaughtering never ended, and Akane was helping her through each of her killings. The essence of the drugs Rin took from Kyuosuke's room was simply meant for the purpose of handling those victims who had enough power to overtake the strength of an old woman. Thus, these were the hidden methods used as ways to cause the deaths of the many villagers living in Okahama. -- Present Time-- James lifted himself from the position he had fallen in, even though he was astonished to see the sight of his grandmother; a form of relief embedded its way into his heart. A relief signifying the peace waiting at hand knowing that the culprits have been found. "Step back James!" Yells Aki as he looks into the carnivorous gaze shooting from the eyes of Rin. Hiroko had been waiting with his weaponry a few meters behind the two, he decided to make his way closer. To the shock at what he had seen, the rifle from his hand fell onto the floor and he was left dumbfounded. Before Aki had the chance to warn Hiroko, Rin moved at the speed of a hyena. Her feet and arms seemed to be in perfect synch as she moved in a way that a four legged beast would. Not an ounce of sanity was left inside her, she only screamed viciously, as if she were prowling at her prey. Aki's injured body could not move quick enough for him to be able to save himself, within a matter of seconds blood came gushing forth and..to Aki's surprise, James was left crying out in agony. Rin had dug her teeth in to the flesh of his hands. Hiroko quickly got up to grab hold his rifle when Akane stormed past both Aki and Hiroko with an axe breaking apart his weapons. Aki desperately slithered across the muddy ground closer towards his friend, if he couldn't do anything in time; James would end up being the snack of Rin. Deceivingly enough, Aki pulled back his right arm in his laying position and grab the end of his gun that had been kept hidden near the rear of his pants. Akane once more furiously jumped towards Aki, moments before she could slice his physique in half, three shots were fired from the distance. Tensou had made his way towards their location. Akane was still standing flimsily with the axe still in her hand. Tensou had his gun pointed at her, as a warning. The axe fell from her hand and her legs collapsed as her face fell flat into a pool of her own blood. Tensou could not go near Rin, however, Hiroko managed to push Aki closer towards Rin, who was left chewing on the fingers of an unconscious James. Aki shot Rin's torso a few times, but before he could take his last shot; James...had gotten pulled in the way. "James! God damn it!" These were the words Aki had painfully shouts as his body in an unconditional state, mourns uncontrollably. A few days went by, ever since that incident the village experienced no threat and the reforming of the community was taken charge by Hiroko Kagamine. Aki Yakushima left the village in utter regret at what his hands had put forth. Ironically, he chased the case for the sake of protecting his old friend; but rather, ended up using his hands to kill the one he cared most about. Tensou took Reina into the care of a psychiatrist in hopes of her recovering from her dismay. The village was left uninformed of the actual events that took place to the dead beloved members of their community. Tensou was worried about the fact that the truth was just going to be a disturbing image that would scar the minds of many, so he decided to forge the context of the incident. The small history of a hidden village, these were the events that took place in the land of Okahama. Some say life is precious, others only wish their life was precious. The root of all evil stems from the need to fulfill a task in which a person could feel satisfied about themselves. Not all evil comes from the evident, hidden it may seem, but the sharpest dagger exists within the horrors of one's mind.
