The New Target

"W-what do you mean?" My voice came out shaky. I looked away. "Do you know Nathan?" I tried pulling myself away again but his just too strong. "Let me go, please!" I pleaded. I felt his grip loosen but still enough to held me captive. "Let me go." I said while shaking myself out of his arms and finally managed to escape. I tried to compete with his stare. "I don't know Nate." I firmly said. I stopped myself from blurring my vision with tears. He's not Dannon. I swallowed the lump on my throat and forced my legs to stand still.  Nathan and Daniel suddenly appeared and looked at us with furrowed brows. Nathan looked at me with a concerned expression. "Kai, what are you doing?" He asked Dannon. Dannon maintained his cold stare at me.  "How'd you know about my grandmother?" I was stopped by his question. I have no idea how to answer without sounding like a lunatic. He wouldn't even believe me if I tell him the truth.  "I-i d-don't." I wasn't able to make eye contact with him.  "then, how'd you know she's in Florida? Stop b*llsh*tt*ng me.  You clearly know she doesn't have a cat. You know her. Who are you?" "Nobody." I quietly said. Anxiety is obviously taking over me.  "Serenity!" My eyes automatically looked at him after he said my name. "Why does your name sound so familiar?" My hands started shaking. "What do you mean?" I feel my heart beating so fast as if it's trying to escape my body. What does he mean? He closed his eyes and sighed in frustration. "You're right. You're just a nobody. Why am I even wasting my time on you. You're probably just one of those girls who wants to et my attention."  Disappointment kicked all nervousness out of my body. My heart throbbed with pain. Is that what he thinks of me? I gritted my teeth and looked at him straight in the eyes. "I know a Dannon but he's definitely not you." I cleared my throat and put all the pain I'm feeling aside. I shouldn't let him make me feel anything. "You're also right. You just wasted your time on me because this nobody has no interest in someone like you." I turned my back at him and started walking away.  I'm didn't even make that much distance between us when I remembered something. I turned to look back at them. "Kindly put that book on the top shelf, please?" I pleaded while pointing at the book on the floor. I feel so irresponsible for dropping it thrice today and I haven't even read it. Returning it to the shelf feels just the right thing to do.  I saw Daniel nod his head at me. I gave him a smile and started walking away again. this time with faster pace. I slapped myself in embarrassment. My exit scene was already so epic and I remembered that book! That was so awkward! *** Dannon's POV I stared at her back while she's slowly walking away from me. Her words curiously stung me. I want her to take everything she said back. She suddenly halted and awkwardly faced us back. "Kindly put that book on the top shelf, please?" She did not even gave me a single glance. She more like talking to Daniel and Nathan. It made me look invisible. While I never even took my eyes off of her.  "Hmm." I heard Daniel hummed in agreement but I don't think she heard him. I saw her smile at Daniel. That smile again. She swiftly walked away and out the library.  Daniel bent down and grabbed the book on the floor but I slapped it back. "What the heck, Kai?" He exclaimed. "You don't need to follow orders from a nobody. Who does she think she is?" Daniel grabbed the book again. I shrugged at him. "She was asking nicely. It's you whose got problem with her not me." He said and placed the book back on the top shelf. I gritted my teeth when her words echoed in my head. "You're also right. You just wasted your time on me because this nobody has no interest in someone like you." "Not interested in me?" Who is she kidding? She must be out of her mind. I grinned as an idea popped in my head. No girls ever rejected my charm and she's going to be one of them. "I think I found my new target." "I don't think that's a good idea." Nathan blurted out. "Don't do it, Kai." "Why not? I just want to prove her wrong." "Exactly! It's just about your stepped on ego." My smiles faded on my face.  "What's your problem?" I eyed him warily, trying to figure out why he's suddenly interfering. His been my friend since the day I started to have senses about life. He never once complained about how I treat girls. If it was Daniel, I'd understand because he has always been like that. "Wait," I gave him a disapproving look. No way. "Do you like that girl?" "She's interesting" He said without showing any expression. I didn't react. I have no idea how to. "But that doesn't mean that I'm into her." He gave Daniel and I glances and groaned in disbelief. "Come on, guys. I really don't like LIKE her. I just find her interesting." Daniel and I both looked at him. What he said was not convincing. "I have my reasons!" I sighed. I just let myself believe him. Serenity doesn't look like Nathan's type. I have no idea what his reasons are for having interest in her though and I don't care. What ever it is, it still explains why Nathan knows her name. That's all there is for me. "But that's not gonna change my mind" I firmly said. "Kai," this time it was Daniel who spoke. I wondered when he's going to protest. I guess he found his timing. " You said she's just a nobody. Would you really waste your time on a nobody?" Serenity's smile flashed back in my head. Her eyes and how it looked at me.  A grin flashed on my face. "If it's going to be fun then, I won't mind wasting my time giving that nobody a name."
