A Little Bit Of Bad Sometimes Is Good II

Chapter Two. Lydia’s POV. My head snapped towards him. He chuckled lightly at my expression, “Relax. I’ve been watching you for a while now and with the way you were glaring at your phone, I could just tell. I have a sixth sense for things like this.” He smiled as if he had just mentioned one of his biggest achievements. “No one stood me up and even if anyone did, it’s none of your business so could you please go away.” I snapped before I could stop myself, my voice sounded way harsher than I had intended. He didn’t even flinch. He just leaned back against his seat, his eyes remained glued on me. My chest heaved heavily as the guilt settled over me, weighing me down in a manner that made me so uncomfortable. I ran my hand over my face in frustration, the idea of just apologizing to him already filling my mouth with a bitter taste. “Sorry.” I managed to mutter under my breath and he shrugged. “Was it that bad? The asshole that stood you up?” He continued, swirling his drink in a carefree manner like he didn’t know my patience was wearing thin. Too mentally exhausted to argue, I resigned myself to whatever his conclusion was. After all, I did get stood up, just not in the way he was thinking. “Fine! He didn’t just keep me waiting for hours, he was also very rude.” I confessed, taken aback, that I was still very pissed about what had happened earlier and to my surprise, he didn’t gloat about being right, he simply sided with me. “Must have been a total jerk. His loss, not yours.” His support disarmed me slightly. Maybe he wasn’t entirely terrible. Just intrusive. He suddenly leaned forward, the unique scent of him, wrapped around me, his eyes sucking me in, in two different directions, “You look like you need a real drink. Water’s not going to cut it for that level of annoyance. Trust me, I’ve been there.” “I’m fine.” “Oh come on! This is a party, don’t be boring,” his eyes twitched mischievously, “I dare you. One real drink. If you can still tell me, with a straight face, that the asshole that stood you up isn’t a total prick after it, I’ll leave you alone.” It was a stupid dare. But I’ve had a long day, I didn’t need him breathing down my neck and making my stay here miserable so anything to get rid of him was fine for me. Besides, how bad could one drink be? “Fine. One drink.” I responded confidently even though a tiny voice in my head was telling me not to do it. I had never taken alcohol before, this was a bad idea but nothing could go wrong in a place like this. They were CCTV cameras everywhere and Charles’s guards were all over the place. His grin was triumphant. He ordered two shots of something clear and potent. “To oblivion!” He cheered, clicking his glass against mine. As soon as I brought the glass close enough to my lips, the strong scent coming from it was the first thing that should have made me put a hold on whatever madness was going on. But for some reason, I threw my head back and gulped it down. The hot liquid burned all the way down my throat. I hissed in pain, coughing and spluttering. But, in a weird way, the liquid spread an unfamiliar yet pleasurable kind of warmth through my body, numbing the cold frustration inside of me. “Another?” He asked with one eyebrow arched. “You’re trying to get me drunk?” “I’m trying to get you to live a little. Another dare?” He snickered and I had no idea why but the moment I stared into those eyes of his, I couldn’t stop myself from nodding. Two more shots later, the edges of the world were pleasantly fuzzy. I was laughing so hard at something he said and my internship woes were pouring out of me in a tipsy rush. He was a surprisingly good listener. While trying to demonstrate something to him, I staggered off my chair and almost crashed to the ground if he had not been quick enough to catch me. “Whoaaa…” he slurred, “I think that’s enough for one night, time to get you to your room before you pass out here.” I protested but my legs felt like jelly when I stood. His arms came around my waist steady and strong and my body leaned totally against his, feeling every muscular inch of him underneath me. The hotel hallway tilted around me. The scent of him was intoxicating and overwhelming, way better than the shots. We stumbled into the empty elevator and after asking what floor I was on, he pressed the button. The doors slid shut, trapping us in a silent, mirrored box. My back was pressed against his chest, his hand still wrapped firmly around my waist and when the elevator began to move, I felt him lean against the wall. I could feel every inch of his body. Every nerve in my body suddenly seemed way too active, every thought drowned in sensation as if waiting for something to happen. My breath caught in my throat when I felt his hand brush my hair back and his hot breath landed on my exposed neck. My entire body trembled and for a moment, I had no idea what to expect. My bare neck itched as crazy thoughts I had never had my entire life began to flood my mind. An unfamiliar sensation pooled between my thighs and I pressed my legs together to stop it but that caught his attention. Slowly, his hand slid down my waist, over the thin cotton of my sundress. His fingers found the hem, pushed underneath and the moment his finger touched my bare skin, an electric jolt shot down my spine. I gasped, my mouth falling open as his fingers trailed higher, slipping under the edge of my lace panties. “So wet,” he growled against my ear, “for a good girl.” I should have stopped him but every nerve in me seemed to be on fire. His fingers slid over my wetness and before I could brace myself, he thrust a finger inside of me and my knees buckled. He held me tightly against him, as he continued thrusting his finger in with a ruthless, masterful ease that threatened to throw me over the edge of whatever was going on inside of me. My body trembled against his as his thumb began to circle that perfect, desperate spot. I was panting heavily, my head thrown back onto his shoulder. I’d never felt anything— so raw, so out of control. Ding! The elevator doors suddenly slid open with a soft chime signaling our arrival. Reality crashed in like ice water. My eyes flew open and my head shot up to find an elderly couple standing there, blinking at us with stunned expressions on their faces. With a loud shriek, I shoved him away in panic and his finger slipped out of me, leaving me achingly empty. I stumbled out of the elevator, past the confused-looking couple, my dress disheveled, my face flushed. “Wait!” He called out from inside the elevator but I didn’t look back. I ran. Down the hall, I fumbled with my key card until I fell into my room. I slid down the back of my door, breathless, touching my swollen lips. What have I done? I, who had never gone further than a few clumsy kisses, had almost climaxed inside a public elevator with a tattooed stranger whose name I didn’t even know. My face burned with embarrassment and shame, suffocating me so hard that I screamed through the entire night with my face buried deep into my pillow. “It was the alcohol. It was the frustration. It would never, ever happen again.” I told myself that over and over again, the entire night. ~~~~ The next morning, my head was pounding with a vicious rhythm. The bags that had suddenly developed overnight underneath my eyes due to the lack of sleep were now very visible as I made my way to the breakfast table. The hotel’s breakfast terrace was airy, filled with the relaxing sound of birds chirping, the soft clink of cutleries and the mouth watering scent of pastries and coffee. Exactly what I needed to get over last night. At the mere thought of him, a chill ran down my spine. I could almost still feel his fingers circling my c******s like— “Lydia! Sweetheart! Over here!” Mom’s excited voice cut through my thoughts and I was more than thankful for that. I forced a smile and walked over. Mom was seated right next to her husband and they looked so good together as sunlight streamed into the hotel’s garden breakfast terrace. “I was going to wait until we’re all together before I share the wonderful news but…” Alpha Charles began as soon as I was seated. My brows furrowed. What news? I glanced at Mom and became even more curious to know what was happening when I saw her exchange weird looks with him. “We have great news for you, Lydia.” He continued, “your mother and I pulled some strings and you’re to start your summer internship at Hopkins medical center this Monday after we get back. Consider it a welcome-to-the family gift.” My heart skipped a beat as I glanced from Mom to Charles in disbelief. I wasn’t sure if I had heard what he said correctly until he handed over a letter to me and I screamed out loud in excitement as my eyes caught the Guild’s emblem etched on it. “Oh My God! Is this real?! This isn’t a joke right?” I shrieked excitedly as I jumped to my feet and rushed over to hug the both of them. “I’ve already spoken to the head of the internship program. You’ll be placed directly under one of their top healers for the best mentorship,” Charles took a sip of his juice then smiled, “speak of the devil,” he whispered as he turned towards the entrance. “Lydia, I’d like you to meet my son. Your stepbrother, and your new supervising healer at Hopkins Medical Center.” I followed his gaze and across the sun-dappled terrace, walking towards our table in athletic shorts and a damp gray t-shirt, with a towel slung around his neck was the stranger from last night. My smile faltered as soon as I locked eyes with him. The casual, arrogant confidence in his steps froze for a split second just as Charles walked over to him and slapped his shoulder, playfully. “Xander, this is Lydia. Lydia, this is Xander, my son.”
