A Sister’s Plea

“No—You must let go!” Yan Yishan insisted, her voice trembling with urgency. Lucy turned, utterly incredulous, her wide eyes like ringing copper bells. “Yan Yishan, what are you saying? I can’t understand a word!” “Lucy, please—just give up on Kevin, okay?” Yan Yishan grasped her hand and stared at her with an expression full of unspeakable sorrow. “Lucy, please, just let him go. Besides him, you could love someone else!” For the first time, Yan Yishan’s tone was firm and resolute—a stark contrast to her usual gentle manner. “Have you gotten yourself into trouble? Or is there some misunderstanding about Kevin?” Lucy furrowed her brows, her face etched with a quiet melancholy. Her slender shoulders and delicate frame made her look even more fragile, while her dark eyes shimmered as if studded with starlight. “I don’t have any misunderstanding about him,” Yan Yishan replied softly, lowering her gaze. “I just feel that the two of you don’t suit each other. I always fear he’ll end up hurting you, you silly girl.” Lucy gently patted Yan Yishan’s head and smiled softly. “I’m perfectly capable of protecting myself. How could he hurt me? Besides, Kevin would never do that!” “Do you believe that?” Yan Yishan pressed, her eyes searching Lucy’s face. “Mm, I believe him,” Lucy answered, though uncertainty lingered in her tone. At that moment, the gentle chime of Lucy’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen where a familiar name danced across the blue display, and a smile gradually lit her face as she pressed the answer button. “Hello?” she answered. “Lucy, where are you?” came a deep, husky voice on the other end—its rich timbre imbued with a love that was almost intoxicating. “I’m at school,” Lucy replied with a soft smile. “What’s up? Do you need me?” “No, I just… I miss you,” the voice murmured. “Kevin.” “Kevin…” Lucy’s smile deepened. “ Will you come to the office now? I want to see you—I’m waiting in my office.” “Alright, I’ll be there soon. Wait for me,” Kevin replied. Outside, a warm summer breeze, laden with the unique scent of sunny heat and gentle air, drifted in from the lake. After bidding a quick goodbye to Yan Yishan, Lucy prepared to leave when Yan Yishan grabbed her arm one last time. “Lucy, I can’t say much, but please listen—things aren’t always as they seem. Don’t let love blind you. Look clearly at everything.” Lucy looked at her friend in puzzled silence, then smiled gently and departed. Yan Yishan watched Lucy’s retreating figure and murmured to herself, “Lucy, I tried my best to stop you. But you love him too deeply! And if he ever hurts you… isn’t this fate, after all?” As shards of brilliant white sunlight cascaded around where Lucy had disappeared, the scene shifted. Inside the sleek CEO office at Kevin Group, sunlight filtered through the glass, scattering soft shadows on the grey floor. Lush green plants framed the room, and a pile of books and documents lay on a cream-colored carpet. In one corner, a long, elegant shadow stretched across the floor, shimmering in the light. Kevin, with long lashes casting delicate shadows over his handsome face, lay asleep—his expression as pure and unblemished as that of a sleeping infant. Quietly, Lucy pushed the door open, carrying a small box of treats. She approached the slumbering Kevin with the utmost care, setting down the snacks and tidying the scattered books and papers. The sunlight bathed the room in a clear, glass-like radiance. Gazing at his peaceful sleeping face, Lucy felt an overwhelming surge of happiness. Though they belonged to two completely different worlds, why did she love him so recklessly? Why did her love for him grow so deep that she could no longer let go of his hand? As she leaned closer to his sleeping visage, she softly stroked his chiseled features and whispered, “Kevin, do you truly love me? But why do I sometimes sense an unexplainable sadness in your eyes? Who is that sorrow for?” Just then, a quiet voice broke her reverie. “Lucy, you’re here!” Lucy lifted her head to see Kevin slowly opening his eyes. Sunlight streamed into his eyes, making the purple hues sparkle like violets. His handsome face remained as calm and gentle as ever. “Mm, I came by because you were asleep—I didn’t want to disturb you, silly girl,” Kevin teased lightly, his fingers playfully brushing Lucy’s small nose. “Kevin, can you promise me something?” Lucy asked quietly, her dark eyes fixed on his. “No matter what happens in the future, never deceive me, okay?”
