Breaking Point

The sunlight flowed over them, casting vibrant rays of light across their figures. Yet Lucy's words were colder than ice. She had deliberately ignored and tried to forget what he had just said. But now, bringing it up again—was Kevin telling her that she had always been nothing more than a shadow of Bella? "Lucy, I mean it this time. Please believe me!" Kevin's voice was almost pleading now. This was the first time in his life he had spoken with such humility. Even with Bella, he had never lowered himself this much. But for Lucy, he did. Perhaps, deep down, the seed of love had already taken root in the frozen wasteland of his heart, growing into an unshakable tree. Lucy’s voice remained calm, but her words carried the weight of finality: “And if I said I don’t believe you anymore, then what? I had been trying so hard not to care. As long as I could stay by your side, I was willing to not care whether I was someone’s replacement. But now… it seems like that’s no longer possible. Who knowingly jumps into a pit of fire? Sorry, Kevin—I don’t have that kind of courage.” “Pit of fire?” Kevin’s fingers trembled slightly as he slowly lifted his head, struggling to suppress the turbulent emotions surging within him. His words were slow, deliberate. “Can I ask you something, Lucy?” She looked at him silently. “Are you planning to leave me? If this hadn’t happened, would you still leave?” Lucy’s eyes sparkled with unshed tears. “If I said yes, would you let me go? Would you promise not to appear in my life again?” Kevin didn’t respond; he only stared at her, searching her face for some glimmer of hope—something to hold on to. But the despair within him continued to grow, piece by piece. In the vast and empty CEO's office, his voice sounded unnervingly quiet, with a faint tremor that was almost imperceptible. “Are you going to leave? Is there truly no room left to save us?” His hand clamped down on her jaw, forcing her to look directly into his eyes. The cross hanging from his ear swayed slightly, the light reflecting off of it dancing in his pupils, though it couldn’t melt the frost in his gaze. That coldness seemed to warn her that if she said “no,” the icy chill would freeze her completely. “You won’t leave me, will you?” Time seemed to stop as if everything had frozen in place. Lucy lifted her head and met Kevin’s gaze. In his dark eyes, she saw nothing but emptiness, despair, and pain—all twisted together. The sight pierced her heart, making her feel as though it were breaking into pieces. Why did it have to be this way? If he didn’t want her to know, why be so cruel about it? Lucy stood still, her whole body suddenly cold and stiff. Seeing that she wasn’t responding, Kevin’s hand slid to her neck. He lingered, cherishing the warmth he felt under his fingers. There was a strange impulse growing inside him. If it has to be this way, then I’ll make her completely mine. She will belong only to me. Suddenly, Kevin leaned in, attempting to kiss her lips. But just as his lips were about to meet Lucy’s rosy ones, she turned her face away, evading his kiss. She didn’t want to be kissed at this moment—not like this. It would only make her feel even more humiliated, making it harder to face the truth. To Kevin, however, her rejection took on a different meaning. In his mind, she was refusing his kiss because she now knew the truth and wanted to leave him. No. She couldn’t leave him. And he wouldn’t let her. “Kevin, since your heart belongs to her, let me go,” Lucy said softly. “Let you go?” Kevin tightened his grip on her jaw, leaving a glaring red mark on her cheek. “You want to leave me?” “Yes.” Lucy’s voice was steady as she met his gaze, but what she saw in his eyes shocked her. The once-clear violet orbs had turned dark and cold, a chilling light flickering deep within them. This wasn’t the Kevin she knew. Damn it! She wanted to leave. This wasn’t a joke! “Lucy, it seems I’ve been far too indulgent with you. If that’s the case, then today, I’ll show you the real Kevin!” Kevin grasped her chin even tighter, forcing her to look up at him. The next second, he pressed his lips fiercely against hers. His hot tongue invaded her mouth, entwining with hers, as if trying to claim her completely. Lucy’s body trembled, her pupils dilating in shock. She felt suffocated—his aggressive kiss sending a chilling shiver down her spine. “Stop it, Kevin! Let go!” Lucy’s voice was filled with anger. Her once-clear eyes were now clouded with disgust. “Do you even know what you’re doing?” “Lucy, you’re mine. Don’t try to defy me anymore,” Kevin growled, lowering his head to kiss her face and neck. Everywhere his lips touched, Lucy felt as though she were being consumed by flames. Her body began to burn with a heat she couldn’t control. Outside, the sunlight gleamed like liquid gold, spilling over Lucy’s pale face, making her skin glow like flawless jade. “Let me go, Kevin!” Lucy struggled, trying to push him away, but she couldn’t move his strong, solid frame. “Let me go!” But Kevin ignored her pleas, continuing to indulge himself. Lucy’s face grew pale, her eyes empty and full of despair. Yet, on her lips was a faint smile—a smile so delicate and beautiful that it made Kevin’s heart throb with sudden pain. Her smile was proud and exquisite, yet filled with sorrow and hopelessness. A single tear slid silently down from her wide, clear eyes.
