Ezra found me on a weekday afternoon. The bakery was quiet, hardly any customers around. I was wiping the glass behind the counter when the door chime jingled softly. I didn't bother looking up. "Welcome. What can I get for you?" No reply came. I lifted my head. He stood in the doorway. He'd grown much thinner than three months ago. He had dark circles under his eyes, and he hadn't shaved in days. We stared at each other for about three seconds. I set down my rag and walked around the counter. "Come in. Sit down."
