CHAPTER FIVE

ewis was awake at five. He glanced at his watch. It was Wednesday. He sat in the breakfast room. He kept asking himself, “What are we going to do? What are we going to do?”
There was a note on the table. Deborah had left it to remind him of the interview with Toby Burke. He didn’t know if he could go through with the interview. He wanted to be out looking for Beverly. He wadded the note up and left it on the table. He started thinking about what Agent Jacoby had said about keeping it in the news. He put on a pot of coffee.
At seven o’clock three Secret Service vehicles left the ranch. Josh and Grandma Alice were going to the Command and Control Center at the Sheriff’s office. They would stay until eight o’clock tonight.
