Weeks passed, and they slipped into a rhythm, the kind that made Lola feel seen in messy, beautiful ways. Ade joined her for a community coding workshop in a cramped Lagos startup space, where they hacked together a simple app for local artisans, laughing over syntax errors. The air was thick with the smell of coffee and possibility, the sounds of keyboards clicking and murmurs of excitement filling the room. Lola: "Hey, how's the design showcase prep going?" Ade: "It's going! Just tweaking a few things. You?" Lola: "Crushing it on the fintech app " Ade: "Haha, I know you are." Lola attended his design showcase at a trendy gallery in Chelsea, Lagos - the streets were buzzing with art lovers, palm trees swaying above boutique shops and hip cafes. The gallery itself was a converted warehouse, walls adorned with local art, the smell of wine and canapés mingling with creative energy. Ade fit right in, talking about "human touch" in interfaces like it was an art form. Angela showed up, giving Ade a nod of approval. Angela: "Hey, hey! What's the plan for today?" Lola: "Ade's design showcase is tonight! You coming?" Angela: "Definitely. Gonna show some support " Ade: "Hey, Angie! Thanks for coming " Lola felt a flutter in her chest as Ade smiled at her across the room, his passion for design infectious. They fit, mostly. But there were silences, Ade’s past, a lingering shadow he touched gingerly; Lola’s ambitions, a drive that sometimes left him in the wake. No deal-breakers, just cracks needing care. They navigated these complexities with a gentle touch, learning to communicate in ways that felt authentic and true. A big project loomed for Lola, a fintech app launch that promised to shake up payments in Nigeria. Ade supported her, late-night coding sessions turning into coffee-fueled huddles, but his own work struggled. Tensions flared once, a tired argument about space, voices rising in her tiny apartment. Lola: "We need some air." Ade: "Yeah, let's get out." They drove to the beach, the night ocean a dark expanse under a few stars. Walking the shore, waves foaming at their feet, Ade stopped her with a hand on her shoulder. Lola's heart skipped a beat as he looked at her, eyes raw with emotion. Ade: "I'm sorry. I feel like I’m losing grip." Lola: "We’re in this mess together, okay?" (Lola felt a pang of worry, wanting to fix things for him) Ade: "I like the mess with you." Lola: "I like fixing it with you " As they walked, the waves washed over their toes, and Ade reached for Lola's hand, fingers intertwining naturally. Lola felt a spark of happiness, feeling like they were in sync. Ade: "Jollof or fried rice?" Lola: "Hmm... jollof " Ade: "Good choice!" Lola: "You cook well, by the way." Ade: "Thanks . You help." That night, cooking together, the kitchen was a cocoon of warmth, music playing softly. Ade turned to her, his eyes locking onto hers. Lola felt her cheeks heat up. Ade: "You know what I like about you?" Lola: "Hmm?" Ade: "How you chase things. It's sexy." Lola's heart fluttered. Ade leaned in, his lips brushing hers, the kiss tender and exploring. Ade pulled out his guitar after dinner, playing a slow tune that made Lola lean into him on the couch. Lola: "Play something?" Ade: "What do you want to hear?" Lola: "Something slow " Ade: (starts playing a slow tune) Lola: "You play beautifully." Ade: "You inspire." Angela texted Lola: "How's things with Ade?" Lola: "Good! We went to the beach." (Lola felt a goofy grin spreading across her face) Angela: "Aww nice! He treating you right?" Lola: "Yeah, he is " The night drifted into kisses, slow and unhurried, the music lingering like a hum in their skin. Lola felt like she was floating, wanting the night to never end. They didn’t push further, just the warmth of it, a building thing.
