Lara’s POV
The words kept echoing in my head like a broken alarm. My fingers went numb around the blanket. I couldn’t breathe properly anymore.
It felt like the walls were closing in slowly, like even this expensive, quiet hospital room wasn’t safe anymore. My throat tightened painfully.
“No…” I whispered, barely audible. “No, no, no…”
A tear slipped down before I even realized I was crying. Then another.
I didn’t even understand when it started.
Fear just… swallowed everything else.
My chest rose and fell too fast, my hands trembling as I tried to steady myself, but nothing worked. Every sound outside the door made me flinch.
Every silence felt worse.
“I didn’t do anything,” I choked out. “I didn’t do anything wrong…”
