The elevator carrying the soldiers and Blaster Squad stopped at the five-kilometer depth with a slight lurch. Nick was glad he wasn’t prone to claustrophobia given the cramped elevator and the warm bodies packed too tightly as far as he was concerned. If they were greeted by weapons fire when the elevator doors opened, they would all die. Sonara assured him they would be undetected until they reached the network of tunnels, but he remained uncomfortable.
