Astrid woke to moonlight shimmering through her window and frowned. The room was quiet, but something felt off. She pulled off her thick blankets and sat up, trying to shake the feeling. A soft knock on her door made her look up. “Come in,” she called softly. Wraith entered, looking oddly cautious. “I have something for you,” she said. “But you’ll need to make sure he doesn’t eat your bird.” Astrid glanced at the aforementioned bird, who was sleeping soundly in his large cage. “Arcann placed protections around it,” she said with a smile. “Nothing can get him.” Wraith nodded and nudged the door closed with her foot.
