Mr. Clark Winnow a Secretary of the State, is one of the most influential and feared politicians in Florida. He was best recognized for the solitary work he had put into making Florida a better state.
Mr. Clark was a 56-year-old man of average height. Even in his fifties, he still looked handsome and remarkably young for his age.
“Dad, here you are! I have been looking everywhere for you.”
“Oh, sorry, Angel. I just decided to come and have some quiet time on the deck for a while.”
A massive swimming pool was situated in the middle of the deck area, its dazzling blue water shimmering under the light. On the left corner was a massive fire pit with beautiful engraved designs, the kind of design one would expect to see from top designers.
There was also a lounge area furnished with large white and brown sofas. Beautiful curtains were draped above the structures surrounding the lounge, adding to its elegant appearance.
It was a beautiful sight to behold.
On the far right corner was a beautiful garden filled with flowers of different colors. Everywhere was calm and peaceful.
“Dad, about the university…”
“I have decided to pick a form for a public university, and please don't say no because that's where my mind is made up.”
“No, Kat. I won't have any of my kids attend a public university. Not on my watch. Can't you see Michael? Why can't you be like Michael? He attends one of the best private universities.”
“Dad! Michael and I are not the same person. We are two different people from the same world. If Michael likes flashy things, I don't, and that's okay, Dad.”
“No, it's not okay. Do you even know whose daughter you are? You are the daughter of the Secretary of State! That's who you are.”
His voice grew louder.
“If you make any foolish mistake and step your foot on that public university, do you know what the headlines would be? Do you?”
“Dad, I don't care about the headlines. It's my life we're talking about here.”
“If you won't let me attend the public university, then I'm not going to school anymore. You can forget about it.”
With that, she stormed out.
“Katniss!”
“Katniss! How dare you walk out on me?”
“Young lady, I'm talking to you!”
“Jesus! What's going on, darling? Why am I hearing noises?”
“It's Katniss. I don't know what has gone wrong with that daughter of yours. I don't know who is feeding her with those thoughts, or should I say lies, about attending a public university.”
“Honey, you need to go easy on her. Try understanding her before shouting at her, okay?”
“What exactly do you want me to understand, Nina? Is it the fact that she wants to drag my name through the mud? Is that what you want me to understand?”
He shook his head.
“You try talking to her. Tell her that no part of me will accept her attending a public university, and that's it.”
“Okay, fine, honey. I will try talking to her. But for the meantime, can you stop being angry? I don't like the way you are now, darling. It's making me feel sad.”
“I'm sorry, sweetheart,” Mr. Winnow said to his wife, Nina. “I didn't mean to inconvenience you with this whole situation.”
Mr. Clark was the ideal type of man every woman would want to have as a husband. He had always loved and held his wife in high esteem. Nothing could ever make him speak to or treat his wife badly.
“Hello?”
A sharp, deep voice echoed from the other side of the phone.
“How are you doing, sis?”
“What’s going on with you and Dad?”
“Michael! Dad won't let me attend a public university,” Katniss said in a teary voice.
“Why?”
“I don't know. He said I would drag his name through the mud. Michael, I really don't want to attend a private university. I really don't.”
“Don't worry. I will talk to Dad, okay?”
“Now stop crying.”
“I’m hanging up now, and never forget that your big bro loves you.”
And with that, they ended the call.
