Chapter Four - His Past and Present

Four years Ago.

“My lord,” Elias called as he stood at the door to the Alpha King's office, one look at Connell showed that he wasn't good because as he did the paperworks, lines were seen on his forehead, he looked utterly confused.

Connell lifted his gaze from his table and stared at his Beta “What is it Elias?”

“You,” Elias paused unsure if sharing what he was bothering him was the best option here, or had he over thought about the whole issue or had he not even seen things right?

No … Elias shook his head, he had seen it right.

“I what?” Connell asked bringing Elias out of his thoughts, the latter walked into the room and stood before his master, his gaze fixed on nothing, his hands behind him.

“You hesitated my lord,” Connell shot up his brows, Elias nodded “Twice my lord, you hesitated twice today.”

“Did I?” Connell asked uncertainty in his voice..

The Alpha King knew very much what his Beta was talking about, it was the mating that had happened today, he was also surprised at himself today on how he had handled things.

“Yes you did.” Elias answered.

Connell sighed deeply as he stood to his feet and walked towards the window, he stared out the window though it was dark, he could still see some of the guards walking around.

“You hesitated when duty demanded you reject the defiled-” Something stirred in the Connell, anger? He himself doesn't know but the look he threw at his Beta shut the latter quickly.

“-your mate, you had hesitated.” Elias completed correcting himself.

Though he returned his gaze to the window but he wasn't seeing anything, yes, he had truly hesitated today.

When the checks for the nuptials are over and his mate was announced defiled, he felt anger rushed through his veins, fury ate him up, he felt like ripping someone apart but even though livid, his fury was directed to the he wolf bold enough to touch what was his.

‘What was his?’ His mind echoed silently.

And when he saw his mate all broken and teary, she had even fallen at his feet, he didn't know where the restrianing power came from but all he had wanted to do was to hug her, raise her to her feet, comfort her and still go ahead claiming her but he couldn't.

“I honestly don't know, Elias.” Connell replied truthfully.

Connell honestly didn't know why he was hesitant, he wasn't one to delay when there is a break of rule, he was a man that followed rules to the latter.

Elias blinked twice, shock clouding his expression, did his master just…. “You don't know?”

Connell nodded.

Elias was beyond surprise, Alpha King Connell was one to always be in control, always had solutions and answers to all problems never will this powerful, strongest wolf say ‘he doesn't know.’ never! Or…

“Did you develop a soft spot for-”

Connell snorted “That's not possible.” He moved away from the window.

“You always complimented her, her dress, beauty and even set private meetings.” Elias stated, he would never forget the shock that hit him like a brick when he heard the Alpha King compliment a she wolf’s beauty, Connell never does that, he doesn't even notice the opposite gender.

“You know it all because of duty,” Connell said as he took out a bottle of drink and a glass cup “Duty demanded I be mated, left for me I did be alone, It's not worth it-” The Alpha King flinched a little as memories flooded in.

Concerned and worried took over Elias, “My lord?”

Connell snapped out of those memory, took his seat and poured himself a drink “I only did because of the Private.”

The Private were on his neck about mating and producing a heir and he had to obey, it's duty.

“Hmm.” Elias nodded, “Again at the mating to your chosen mate you hesitated.”

Connell sighed with a frown “Nothing seems to get pass you, does it?”

“No my lord.”

Connell rolled his eyes as he raised his glass to his lips and emptied its content in a go.

“Was it because of the she wolf from the other night or your rejected mate?”

“What?!” Connell exclaimed in surprised staring up at Elias “You knew about the…” he trailed off, he thought no one knew since he had gone to the bar alone but this man standing before him seems to always find things out.

As Elias was about to speak, a guard entered and requested for the Beta's attention, Elias bowed and left closing the door gently behind him.

‘Was it because of the she wolf from the other night or your rejected mate?’ The question echoed in his ears.

After that night of fun he had woken up after a long sleep which never happens to him, he knew it must have been because of her and alas she was no where to be found, the only thing she left was the blood on the sheets, a sign that he was the first man to ever be with her.

Strangely enough, he sees the she wolf from the other night in his rejected mate, he knew that sounds crazy but he somehow saw that, though he is not able to recognize the she wolf from that night but strangely he felt he was with her when he was with his rejected mate.

That was crazy! He was going mad!

Connell shook his head pushing aside all the thoughts as he poured himself another shot, “Connell Sivarus, you are going mad!” He muttered to himself as he continued drinking and pouring himself more shots as Dianna D'ell’s teary brown eyes flashed before his eyes.

Present.

“Are you even listening?” One of the Alphas asked more like yelled which got Connell fastened out of his thoughts and has his Beta pulling out his sword.

“Yes, I am.” Connell replied as he adjusted himself on his seat, he was in a meeting with the Private, the highest decision making council in the western clan, a highly selection of three Alpha and two Lunas.

Though the Alpha King had authority over them but they were also capable of dethroning the Alpha of Alphas if need be.

With a frown from the Alpha that has spoken earlier, he pushed “Then answer the question.”

He couldn't, because he lied, he wasn't listening.

“Alpha Rowan,” Elias called, warning in his voice “Did you have a problem with the Alpha King staying silent on your question?” Elias knew from the composure of his master that the latter was deep in thoughts but he wouldn't allow this greedy Alpha Rowan to embarrass Connell.

Infuriated, Rowan slams the table “He has no time to stay silent, absolutely no time! He had just taken a fool-”

Seeing the death glare of the Alpha King, Rowan paused his words and rephrased immediately “A rather strange decision.” He concluded.

Elias shot up his brows “Are you questioning his grace's command?”

“No!” With fear he replied immediately.

Though Rowan was a member of the Private but he did better save his head while discharging his duties, Connell wasn't a man to toy with, especially being the son of a monster, the thought of Connell’s late father made Rowan shake in fear.

Someone cleared their throat, another Alpha, Jaxon , stood up ready to speak “Elias, put back your sword.” he ordered harshly making the frowning Beta look him up to down ready to defy the order.

“Elias.” Connell called with a nod, only then did Elias retreat his sword.

“Rowan is right.” Alpha Jaxon started “You have a mate already, but all of a sudden you made your rejected mate your Queen and that to without informing the council, your actions are too sudden.”

How the hell would Connell make such a decision, a decision that is about to ruin all he had spent years planning!

“In my opinion, I don't think his grace's command was strange or sudden.” Luna Solan started with a respectful bow to Connell “Thinking about it, Dianna D’ell is the Alpha King's true mate who was though to be defiled by another he wolf but in the real sense of it, he was the man with her, she even has his son.”

“So you support this decision?” Rowan asked anger underlying his tone.

“Why not, yes I do.” She answered and took her seat.

“Same with me.” The other Luna answered with a wave of hand.

“Me too.” The third Alpha answered making it three against two opinions.

Elias almost released a hiss but he restrained himself and answered “Very well.”

Connell stood to his feet, the Private following suit “Either you all agreed or not, your opinions actually do not count.” And with that he walked out of the hall, Elias followed suit.
