Blue Flames And A Baby part II

1696 Words
As carefully as he could, Callan sped through the forest back the way he’d come, finally finding where he’d stashed his clothes. He didn’t want to put the child down on the forest floor, so he carefully laid out his shirt and wrapped the pup inside. Then he grabbed his jeans and slid them back on. Lifting her again, he thought to himself, she was beautiful, and a joyful little thing too. He talked to her as they walked back to the edge of the forest, cooing softly and enticing small giggles from her. He was surely confused about where this beautiful pup had come from and even more confused about the abnormal flames that surrounded her and what they meant. He was going to have to research surrounding packs to see if anyone was missing a pup, and try to look in history books for the blue flame circle to see if he could link it to something in their past. Moments later, he reached the edge of the forest where he found his Luna, son, and the Beta couple waiting for his return. Relief washed over their faces seeing their Alpha returning safely. As he cleared the brush and his full body came into view, the three adults gasped when they saw his arms were cradling a small bundle with a tiny creamy colored hand reaching up to Callan’s face. “Is that what I think it is, Alpha?” Beta Edmond was the first to speak as the women still stood stunned and silent. “If you were thinking it was a pup, then yes. You are correct,” He responded. “ I don’t even know how to explain it, but I feel like she was meant for me to find, for me to bring to our pack. She is special, very special and will need our protection and care as a whole. Look at this sweet little face if you don’t believe me.” He cooed at her, letting the baby grab his finger with her tiny chubby hand. “But was there no one out there with her? Are you sure her mother wasn’t nearby?” Luna Elizabeth finally spoke. “She’s such a beautiful child I’d never believe anyone would just abandon her. My Gosh! Her hair is gorgeous, and her eyes are like flames in a field of green,” she exclaimed. “Funny you should mention flames,” the Alpha started to explain, “I found her in the clearing of legend, surrounded by a circle of brilliant blue flames. I had to jump over them to get to her and as soon as I shifted and picked her up, the flames disappeared, leaving no evidence they were ever there. Not a single blade of grass was singed. It’s as if she was protected until the right person found her.” “A blue flame circle near the ruins of the old cottage in the clearing? Are you absolutely certain?” Naomi asked, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Yes, blue flames, just at the top of the hill to the right of the old chimney that still stands. If I didn’t jump them and then watch them disappear, I’d think I had imagined it,” Callan answered. The Beta couple now leaned in to admire the baby girl’s beauty, curious about her origin. “Mommy, I want to see the pretty girl baby.” Phoenix whined as he tugged at his mother's clothes while standing beside her. She picked him up so he could see the small bundle in his father's hands. “Hi, baby.” Phoenix reached a small hand toward her. She gave a small giggle and then grabbed his finger with her even smaller hand. “It tickles Mommy. Her touch tickles.” The tiny pup gave a small screech of excitement before letting go of his finger. Callan and Elizabeth gawked in stunned silence at each other for a moment. A silent question passing between the two. “What are you going to do with her Alpha?” Naomi asked. “Well, I will be trying to reach out to nearby packs to see if anyone is missing a pup. But she will need a family to care for her in the meantime or perhaps permanently if no one claims her. So I was thinking,” He paused, glancing at his Luna who gave him a small smile and a nod so soft it was nearly unnoticeable, “Maybe you two could take her in and show her the love I know you have in your hearts?” The Beta couple gasped, but said nothing, their faces flooded with shock at his request. But shock soon melted away to pure joy as they gazed into each other’s eyes. Before either of them could do anything else, they both turned their heads to the Alpha and at the same time answered with no doubt in their voices. “We Will.” “Great. Well then, how would you like to hold this new little bundle of joy, Naomi? Callan asked, turning so he could shift the baby’s weight to her. “I’d like that more than anything on Earth, Alpha.” She said softly with unshed happy tears in her eyes. “Great, then let’s get her back to the pack house and have the pack doctor come by and check her out just to be sure she’s perfectly healthy. Though something in my gut tells me she’s exactly that,” the alpha suggested. “I’ll mind link one of the omega staff to have them call the doctor to meet us there, and send someone to get some baby clothes and necessities for her on the way,” Luna Elizabeth thought out loud. “That’s perfect, dear.” Callan said as he handed the bundled baby to Naomi. “Perhaps we can see if Phoenix would be willing to share a few of his old toys with the baby. What do you think, son?” “Sure Daddy, my Dinosaur toys?” he asked with an excited smile on his face. “I bet she will like those someday, honey, but for now, let’s start with maybe a stuffed toy. Maybe one of your stuffed wolves you got for your birthday last year?” Luna Elizabeth responded. “Okay Mommy, she can have the black one because that's what my wolf will look like. Just like Daddy's,” he said very thoughtfully for such a young age. “Oh, that’s perfect!” Naomi exclaimed softly, trying not to wake the baby that had just dozed off. “You will be such an amazing friend to her, Phoenix.” she told the boy. “I’m gonna be her protector too!” he said as he started skipping ahead of the group. “That’s my strong little future alpha!” Callan said. His chest puffed with pride. Elizabeth laced her fingers in his as they walked together with the Beta couple to the pack house. Once at the pack house, the group went straight up to the fifth floor where the Alpha residence and offices were. The doctor from the pack hospital joined them shortly after they arrived, escorted by one of the omega staff who carried the baby necessities that were requested. After a very thorough examination, Dr. Harvey determined that the pup was in fact perfectly healthy in every way, just as Alpha Callan expected. “She sure is a curious little thing, isn’t she?” The Doctor mentioned as he packed his bag while still watching the baby play with the edge of the blanket she was lying on. “She sure is,” the alpha answered. “I wonder where she came from? If you happen to find a pack missing a pup, do let me know please, Alpha.” The Doctor requested. “I’d like to see her again in a couple of days just to establish her health records and make sure she is doing well. Though I have no doubt that she will be very loved.” He looked at the Beta couple sitting on the ground near the baby. “You have our word she will be loved more than any child could ever hope,” Beta Edmond said, smiling down at the tiny pup. “And I’ll call the hospital later today and make an appointment to bring her in soon.” Naomi added. “Great. I’ll let the front desk know to expect your call. In the meantime, if you notice anything abnormal, or any problems arise, don’t hesitate to mind link me. I’m happy to help in any way I can with this little curiosity.” Dr. Harvey said before turning to walk to the door. “Thank you, William. I appreciate your quick response on this,” Alpha Callan said, shaking the Doctor’s hand as he saw him out. “Mommy, what’s the baby’s name?” Phoenix asked as he came to sit by the baby on the floor. “That’s a good question. Edmond. Naomi. Do you have any idea what you’d like to call her for the time being?” Elizabeth asked the couple. The Beta couple looked at each other in silence for just a split second and each smiled and nodded. “We looked up some names while waiting for the doctor, and there’s one that we both loved, especially for this little one. So, we are going to name her Kenna.” Edmond started. “The name means ‘Born of Fire’ and with this perfectly red hair and in consideration of the flame circle she was found in, we thought it just fit.” Naomi finished. “That’s beautiful!” Elizabeth exclaimed. “I don’t think there’s a better name out there for her.” the Alpha agreed. Phoenix, who was now lying down next to the sleeping pup, ran his fingers through her fiery hair. He lifted her little arm and curled it around a small black fluffy stuffed wolf and whispered, “Don’t worry Kenna, I’ll always protect you and be your best friend.”
