Late in the night, under the soft glow of city lights, the school"s annual prom was in full swing. Kate had agreed to be Henry's date-a moment she had dreamed about for weeks. Standing before her bedroom mirror, she admired herself. Her long curly hair was cascaded down her back, framing her bright hazel eyes which sparkled with excitement. As she slipped in her dress - a strapless gown made of sheer silken fabric that shimmered under the light - she couldn't help but smile. The soft pink color complimented her creamy skin, and the way it hugged her figure made her feel like she has stepped out of a fairy tale. This was her first prom, and she was going with the most charming guy at Oakwood High- the school's star quarterback, Henry Carter. Her best friend, Rachel, had helped her pick out the dress, and now, as the night finally arrived, Kate could hardly contain her excitement. Outside the venue, students arrived in style, some in sleek cars, others stepping out of a limousines, all dressed to impress. Kate arrived in an uber, walking arm in arm with Rachel as they stepped into the grand hall. The moment she entered, all eyes turned towards her. ” You are looking stunning tonight, babe,” Henry said, standing tall as he pulled out a chair for her “Thanks babe” Kate replied, feeling a warmth rise in her cheek as she took her seat to take her seat beside him, surrounded by his friends and their dates. The night unfolded with laughter, music, and endless chatter. then, as the M.C. stepped onto the stage, tapping the microphone to draw everyone's attention, the atmosphere buzzled with anticipation. "And now, one of the most awaited moments of the night- our couples' dance! DJ, hit me with those slow jams!" The dance floor filled with couples swaying to the rhythm of the music. Henry turned to Kate, a playful smirk on his lips. "If your lordship pleases," he said, offering his hand. “Of course, my love,” Kate responded, handling her clutch to Rachel before letting Henry lead her onto the floor. As they danced, Kate giggled at the way Henry twirled her, pulling her close. But the moment was short-lived. A group of girls-Henry's usual admirers-slided up to them. With forced smiles, they joined the dance, pressing in on Kate as if by accident. "Oops, sorry'' one of them murmured after nudging Kate a little too hard. Kate clenched her jaw, determined not to let them ruin her night, but their subtle shoves continued, making it harder to enjoy the dance. Henry finally noticed and turned to them, his expression darkening. 'Enough. Back off," he warned. But they didn't listen. Instead, one of them accidentally spilled her drink-wine red liquid splashing across Kate's dress. The moment froze. A hush fell over the surrounding crowd. Kate stood there, stunned, as humiliation settled in. Before she could react, a firm yet gentle hand grasped her wrist. 'Come on," a voice whispered. It was David David, the quiet artist who has always lingered in the background, watching her from afar. Unlike Henry, who thrived in the spotlight. David lived in the shadows. He had been her friend for a while now, though Kate suspected he had always wanted more. He led her out of the hall, away from the whispers and prying eyes. They walked in silence until they reached the school field, the cool night air brushing aganist her heated skin. "Are you okay?" David asked, his voice soft. Kate let out a shaky sign, staring down at the stained fabric of her dress. "I don't even know how i got into this mess," she muttered As the night stretched on, Kate found herself reflecting on how it all began.... The start of it all.... The bell rang, signaling the start of the new school year. Kate stood outside the entrance of Oakwood high school, inhaling deeply as she took in the towering school building. After a long summer , she was finally back. A mix of excitement and nerves twisted in her stomach. As she walks through the crowded hallways, Kate notice the fresh wave of unfamiliar faces- new students, lost in the chaos of finding their classes. Kate had always been more of a loner, preferring the quiet of the library over the chatter of the cafetaria. But this year, she had promised herself to make more friends. Her eyes scanned the hall, searching for her Rachel. They had agreed to meet before the first assembly bell, but Rachel is nowhere to be found. Just as she was about to text her, a voice called out “Kate! Hey, wait up!” She turned and saw Henry jogging toward her, his signature smile effortlesslycharming. Her heart sjipped a beat. “Morning Kate,” He said, stretching out his hand. She quickly shook it, forcing a casual smile. "Morning Henry" “Meet me at lunch” he asked, glancing at his friends who are waiting for him at the lockers “Sure” she said, still processing the fact that Henry carter had just asked to see her. With a wink, he jogged off. Kate stood frozen until Rachel's voice snapped her back to reality. "Did Henry Carter just-?" Rachel's eyes were wide with disbelief. "Yeah, he did," Kate muttered, still dazed Rachel grabbed her arm, squealing, " Girl, this is huge!" Before Kate could say anything, the assembly bell rang, and they hurriedly towards the hall. The day passed in a blur. By lunchtime, Kate had almost convinced herself that Henry's invitation wasn't a big deal. But as soon as she stepped into the cafetaria, his voice called out "Kate! wait up," She turned to see him walking toward her, his phone already in hand. "Can i get your socials? i'd like to keep in touch." he said. Kate hesitatted for only a second before taking his phone and entering her details. Thanks. I'll text you later," he said with a grin before heading back to his table. Kate stood there, still processing what had just happened. Rachel nudged her. "Okay, now it's officially huge". What did you do? "I just... gave him my socials without thinking," Kate admitted. Rachel beamed. "That's my girl" As they grabbed their lunch, Kate couldn't shake the feeling that this was the start of something new- something that might change everything. Little did she know she was right.
