The next morning, Esther woke up with a start as someone knocked loudly on their door. Before she could wake up Adrian, the door flung openof its own accord and in walked a very irrate woman.
"Adrian! I've been trying to call you..." she began.
When her gaze collided with Esther's her annoying screech stopped as she realized there was another woman in Adrian's bed. Esther raised her brows at the woman's forwardness.
"What are you doing in the Prince's bedroom?" Esther asked her politely.
The woman sniffed at her instead of answering. With a final glare, she huffed and left the room-slamming the door in her wake.
The sound of the door slamming caused Adrian to jerk out of his sleep. He sat up fast, his head colliding with Esther's who had been about to wake him up.
"Oooouch," she hissed.
Adrian rubbed his forehead a moment before he burst into laughter at the ridiculousness of the situation. Esther joined in as his laughter was contagious. He rolled over until she was pinned underneath him, her hair splayed out in a ray around her head. He ran his hands up and down her body, leaving a trail of heat in their wake. He placed little kisses on her body as she trembled with overwhelming desire.
"Wait," she said breathlessly, "I am not ready to go all the way..."
Adrian's body froze at her words. She wasn't a virgin, he thought to himself. Was it him? As if reading his mind, Esther quickly assured him that wasn't the case. He glanced at her quizzically and she sighed,
"Lets go get some food and then we can go for a run and talk. There is some things you need to know about me and Staci." she said quietly, hoping that he didn't reject her after hearing her story.
Adrian heard the trepidation in her voice as she spoke, and he had a bad feeling that what she had to say was wrapped up in the abuse allegations she leveled against Alpha Jake. He gave her a gentle kiss, and squeezed her hand in support. Hopefully she knows he would never reject her, his mate-no matter what she said, or did.
As they were getting dressed, Esther's mind kept going over her encounter with that mystery woman who just barged into Adrian's room. They must have been close, and yet, she didn't see this woman on Adrian's arm last night at the ball. Trapped in her thoughts and not paying attention, she went to open the bedroom door only to have her hand collide with Adrian's as he went to open the door as well.
He could tell she had something on her mind as they dressed. Whether it had anything to do with what they were going to talk about, remained to be seen. Her brow was furrowed, and her mouth had this sexy pout going on as she wiggled into her shorts, staring off into space. He struggled into his shirt and then grabbed his necessities off the dresser and reached for the door. He was so focused on getting out of the bedroom and down to breakfast so they could talk, he didn't see her reaching for the door at the same time. Their fingers collided just before the doorknob as each of them was jerked out of their thoughts.
Esther blushed, but allowed Adrian to open their door. He held it open and beckoned her through, giving her a kiss on the cheek as she passed by him. They walked down the hallway, fingers intertwined in leisure. All noise and conversation came to a halt as they entered the kitchen. Once again Esther's aura had been surpressed so as not overwhelm the other members of his clan, and there were many who hadn't been at the ball last night, so they wrongly assumed Esther was a mixed-breed human. That was their first mistake, and one they would all learn, very soon.
They ate in silence, not offering up much in the way of an explanation. Adrian simply introduced her as his mate and that was that. They stared at him for a moment before they collected themselves and went back to eating. All too soon, breakfast was over and it was time for them to have their talk. They exchanged a quick glance as they excused themselves from the table and walked off.
As they left, Adrian took the lead. He led her to a small path that led into the northern forest. They walked for a few minutes until they came to a clearing. As they entered the clearing, Esther couldn't quite shake the feeling of deja vu that came over her-like she had been here before. Shaking the thoughts away, she followed Adrian until they came to a cluster of rocks. He helped her up and then climbed up beside her. She gasped at the beautiful landscape that stretched out before her.
The sun was still rising, and she shivered as the last of the cold began to burn away. She laid back on the rock, bathing in the warmth of the sun as it gave life back to her. She had never felt more like a dragon, or a lizard, than she did in this moment. Adrain stared down at her as she basked in the sunlight, mesmerized by her beauty. She was perfect in every way, and he knew, without a doubt, that his little mate had been made for him. Looking into her eyes that first time, he couldn't help but feel as if he had met her somewhere before. Surely he would have remembered meeting a beauty such as her, but he didn't and he couldn't shake the feeling that he had known her at one point in time. He heard her let out a long sigh, and looked over at her to find her staring at him.
He gathered her up in his arms and held her tight; he could feel her pain as his own as his heart twinged and his chest began to ache. He rubbed her back and the pain began to subside as she finally spoke,
"I suppose it's time you heard my story my love..."
