The Demon

In the motel room, as they entered, they saw how the entrance of the room was now sealed with a yellow tape. Yet the room was intact when they entered there of how it must have been at the time of the murder. The furniture in the room was similar to theirs. It had two beds which will be to first to meet your eyes as you enter the room. On the wall above the bedpost, there was a painting just below a lamp, it had a scenery of beautiful mountains and river. It also had a big flat screen tv on the front wall of the bed, beside which there was a table with two chairs. The wall which was once painted with cool and calming pastel colors is now all covered with the red blood stains splattered on it. The two beds which had similar covers to them were bloodstained too. every piece of furniture in the room had at least a few blood stains no matter how far that was from the body. As for the body, there wouldn’t be much left to it. All the blood and flesh are now on the walls and what went for the autopsy will be the leftover flesh and the bony structure of the poor man.

“Do you smell that?” Jim spoke out.

“the burning smell?” Reeve said.

“The smell is very faint. It is pretty hard to sniff, it is still very pungent. Is this the smell the cleaning staff told the police officer about?” Jim again said.

“pull out the stuff we bought.” Reeve command.

“oh right, the emf meter,” Jim pulled it out of his coat pocket, it is a device which can catch any disturbance in the electromagnetic frequency of the room, which sometimes is also caused by a ghost or some evil entity present near the device. “By the way, I bought a new one, the last one kind of needed an upgrade. It is better in receiving the electromagnetic disturbance than any other previous models we’ve used. This one is specially designed for ghost hunting.” Jim said and switched it on. It was a cuboidal shaped device with a button in the center of its face and four led bars on each side of the frequency detector on the top of the face, it blinks red with a sound alert whenever it catches any disturbance in the electromagnetic field of the place. The more the disturbance more the blinking will be.

As it was turned on the lights and the sound alert went on. It looked like a room filled with evil. The led bars were blinking continuously.

“This room is nuts. There must be something too big which caused the murder, I've never seen the emf going this crazy before.” Reeve commented.

“I think there is something I've read about this kind of strange burning, rotten egg smell,” Jim told Reeve.

“you know what it could be? Tell me.” Reeve asked.

“The book I've read says that when a demon is present somewhere, there will be a smell of something burning in the place, which indicates the smell of them been burnt in the hell. The smell never leaves them. The place will smell like sulfur.” Jim explained.

“you think it is a demon, who haunted this place?” Reeve asked.

“I think I am pretty sure,” Jim answered.

“why killing someone?” Reeve said.

“maybe knowing who that man is could help us.” Suggested Jim.

Coming back into their room Jim dialed a number on his phone.

“Hello, officer shaw. This is an agent freeman from the US wildlife services. Did you find the identity of the victim?” Jim called the police officer they met this noon and asked.

“yes, agent. We just got his DNA report. It was a match with Lucas Carter, thirty-two, a local architect. He has been missing for the past week, his family complained to the police about his disappearance a few days ago, but the police couldn’t track him since.” The officer told him.

“okay thanks officer, if there is anything else do let us know.”

“sure officer.” The call was disconnected after their small talk.

“what did he say?” Reeve asked with his eyes wide open showcasing his curiosity.

“they got a match of the man. He was an architect and went missing about a week ago.” Jim answered Reeve.

“anything else?”

“no that’s all.”

“We don’t have any lead right now. Where should we start? If this demon is out there then there must be something that it has been looking to do. and before anyone else dies, we will have to track it down and kill it.” Reeve said worriedly.

“did you notice something weird in the room?” Jim asked.

“yeah, the demon is I think what falls in that category,” Reeve commented.

“no, I mean the officer said he has been missing for the past week, and if that is true and he has been hiding in that room for the time being then there must be some luggage of his in the room but there was none. Isn’t that weird?” Jim said.

“yes, I think you are right.” Reeve agrees and again said, “if there was no luggage of his in there then maybe he was actually hiding from someone or something.” Reeve shared his thoughts.

“I think you are right.”

The next day,

“Reeve checks this out, I've got the newspaper of today, see this says there have been two other similar murders in this town just in one day in this town,” Jim told Reeve who just woke up while Jim was reading the newspaper.

“were they died the same way as our neighbor?” Reeve asked yawning.

“no, they died differently but all were similarly suspicious.” He showed.

“let me see.”

The article was on the first page of the newspaper, it says, ‘A Serial Killer on The Loose, Three Died in A Day’. The police and media houses were speculating that the murders could be by a single person as all of them died in a closed room with no signs of forced entry. All three locations were distant from each other, but the way the victim was killed, was quite similar. The murderer according to them was someone who is skilled and trained in cold-blooded killing. Only Reeve and Jim knew that the killer wasn’t a man skilled in killing but a demon. but now what they had to find out was the motive behind all the murders and the demon who is behind all this. They knew that it all has to be connected somehow. Three murders in a single day are no coincidence.

“Should we go visit the other scenes?”

“We should.”

The second victim too died a horrible death like how the architect was killed. His internal organs were all burned, his eyes were looking like it was burned in the sockets.
