Chapter-4 Episode-5 Mnemos Vicissitudo Oblibatrum - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “So how do we find her?” I asked her. “she must have been covering her tracks, it must be hr to get a hold of her.” She said. “Do some of your fancy hoodoo jujus and see from your witchery where the hell your sister is. What do you guys use? Yes… that crystal ball, use it and see locate her before she finds rest of the ingredients and things goes darker.” Reeve said a little on edge, his voice sounded urgent and gruff. “oh, please we don’t use those old, outdated, obsolete glass balls anymore. Like they are so old school. They are so old fashioned. We upgraded our style.” Said Ms. Ann in her rich but breathless speedy voice. “So, do whatever you can and find her and do it fast,” Reeve said again in his agitated voice. “I have to cast a spell for that, to locate her. And for that I am gonna need a few ingredients, I have some but I need some more.” She explained again calmly. “So, arrange it and find her.” Reeve seemed too out of place today. He is rarely this anger. Something must be going on in his head that he is not telling me. “It will take a while. I have to contact someplace for that.” She informed us. “just do it then.” - - - - - - - - “what is going on with you Reeve?” I asked him as Ms. Ann went outside the room to prepare the ingredients for the spell. “I don’t trust her man. I mean, you know who speaks in this calm way these days? Monsters and those who are hiding something. She is definitely lying to us.” Reeve said in a whispered voice but his edginess was pretty evident in the way she spoke of her. “I know your point but you need to calm down,” I said. “Didn’t you see how that little girl cried looking at her mother’s dead body? She was on a school trip when her mother died a horrible death. Just like what happened with us and our parents when we were kids. She has no one now to look after her anymore. What would she be feeling to go to a house and live there all alone, knowing her mom died in the same house? We were still together, we had each other but her, her father doesn’t care about her. All I can think about now was her crying face in front of my eyes.” Reeve said in his mournful and agitated voice. “I know what you mean. I know all this reminds you of us from back then but you have to calm yourself down. You know only she can help us find that witch and we need her so pull yourself together.” I was trying to convince him with my words when Ms. Ann walked into the room. “Did you get all the ingredients?” I questioned. “Yes, I got them, a witch from the coven is ready to help me get those ingredients. She will be here soon with the rest of the ingredients needed for the spell.” She informed us. “Okay, I guess we’ll have to wait until she’s here,” I asked. “Seems like that.” She smiled and sat on the chair next to us. - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Is this really where she located her? I see nothing but dark in this place. Do you think anyone could live in this place? I see no light here.” Reeve said. “You saw the mirror; it located the witch here. And maybe normal people can’t live here, but maybe witches can. And see according to the weather reports of the past few days, some odd occurrences have been observed here like unusual lightning and rain.” I said. “It means you trust her?” Reeve asked. “I don’t think we have a choice here. My vote is with her, I think she is right. Besides the look in her eyes tells that she wasn’t lying. Her pupils, you saw it was normal and so was her breathing. I guess we don’t have any other choice but to go there and see for ourselves.” Reaching the exact coordinates, we stepped out of the car. “Here we are? Not what?” Reeve spoke out. The whole place was deeply engulfed in darkness, the only light there was from the car’s headlight before and now it is from our flashlights. It was hard to see what was around since the place was too dark. But walking on the road for quite a while we finally found an old, almost broken-down house inside the woods. The old house must have been little more than a glorified shed even in its hay day. But now it looked for all the world like a had sat on the roof, for it sagged terribly. The windows were gaping holes for the wind to rush in and out through and the door hung on its hinges at a jaunty angle, although now it was really just a frame. It was a rotting heap, bowing down, subservient to the elements. As we approached the door, we saw that I wasn’t locked. Pulling the knob Reeve opened the door with a loud creaky sound that came from its decade-old wood. It is easy to say that abandoned houses tend to creak, not in the creepy horror movie kind of away, but in a way that scares you to even step your foot inside. But taking up our courage, as I and reeve stepped inside that house, I can smell the rotting stink of the old and wet wood. Maybe the rain made the old wood to stink much worse than a dry day would. I can almost feel the rotting texture of its walls on my fingertips, and how moist they must be. Just that feeling send a shiver through my body. The room was pitch dark but the flashlight was a good help. As we traveled our light through the room, we could now see how empty it was. The oldest residents of this place seem to be the spiders. Maybe no one actually lives here, this place doesn’t have the spirit of anything humane inside it like it has not sheltered anyone for a long time. As we were exploring the dark, stinky room, reeve sited a door in the farthest end of that empty room. And that was the only thing that we can see in the room to explore right now. So, without giving a second thought we walked to it at a fast pace. The door was just like the one before creaky, moldy, and old. It had a rusty knob on it too. So, pushing the knob reeve and I walked inside it. We were paralyzed as we saw the room walking inside it. It was bright and dark both at the same time. The countless candle enlightened the room with its vast burning grace, with the ambiance was oozing with dark energy. The moldy browned walls are more visible for the eyes now. The windows in the room all sealed with thick wooden boards nailed on the walls. The walls were coated with dozens of occult sigils. Making the room more and more terrifying. The room was empty as the one before but had a table in the far corner of it. I spotted the books it was carrying. “Reeve sees there, the books on that table,” I said flashing light in that direction. We both stepped to the table to look if the book of darkness was on it too. we looked through those dozens of books but none of them was what we wanted to find. “looking for this?” the voice came from behind. It was unexpected, it came from behind us making us both turn our bodies. Looking at the frail figure standing in front of us, it was hard to tell the voice from earlier was from the same person. The voice had authority in it, not the educated one but a forced one. “You are Ms. Ann’s sister?” I spoke out. “Ann send Anna a delicious meal I see. So, are you here to get this book back to Ann? Or just lost your way.” She again said in her uneducated authoritative tone. “You killed three people?” reeve said in his unhushed tone. “You know about those people, so you must have guessed why I am doing this.” She said fiercely. “Yeah, we know why you’re doing this. Killing innocents for your selfish interests. Making their children orphan just to make yourself superior to others. Is that your reason?” reeve yelled aggressively. “you don’t know why I am doing this? Those witches, the so-called pureblood, they thought they were powerful and treated us like their slaves. They thought they own us, just because we don’t have legacies like them. They will know their place, I will through them to dust. They will know where they belong.” She said resolutely. “Sorry to burst your bubble but we can’t let you do that,” Reeve said huskily. “give us the book and we will let you go,” I said. “ha ha ha ha ha” she started laughing wildly. “you think you dumb; the powerless creature can stop me? You must think too highly of yourself.” She spoke out. “you know what this is?” reeve said showing her a knotted bag in his hand. “This kills evil witches and bitches like you. Witch killing potion brewed specially for you.” I said. “where did you get that? Did Ann brewed it for you?” she asked angrily. “We know a thing or two about you. Now let’s make a deal. You give us that book and we let you walk out of her in one piece.” Reeve again said in his husky voice. “or maybe not. Maybe you either walk out of this place in one piece and out of this town or maybe I will make you my Guinea pig.” She said with a hint of confidence and power in her voice. “yeah ain't gonna happen,” Reeve spoke. “Whatever you say, ‘Mnemos Vicissitudo Oblibatrum’” she bawled throwing two hex bags in our direction. And as a reflex, we both took the throw.” After her word strikes our ears, I felt a jolt of current in my body making my senses dull and tired. “now you go back where you come from and forget you ever see me. understand?” she ordered. I saw reeve shaking his head in response as a yes when I felt my head too following her command. I knew what we were doing was not what I wanted to do. but we walk right out of the house and took off in the car back to the motel room we stayed in the night before.
