The day rose like a horse on a race. One could already feel the hotness of the morning sun. It was another school day and Yara was dragging her foot in front of the other walking down the stairs to make it to school. Her head faced the ground and her shoulders down As she made her way to the foot of the stairs. She was still thinking so much about her discussion with her mother the previous night. her face puffy, Her eyes, red and swollen from the all-night cries. Her light skinned cheek and nose were reddish, like makeup blush. On getting to the foot of the big twin curved stairs, she made her way to the exit. Trying to avoid being seen by anyone. “Good morning pups,” she heard a familiar voice from behind call.
Yara’s pov
Turning around to reveal Baba. “G..good morning Baba,” I said clearing my throat to dilute my already husky voice. “You are not leaving, are you? You haven't even had breakfast” Baba said looking at me worriedly. I am very sure Ammi told him what transpired yesterday, more reason why I do not want to sit for breakfast today, I do not want to hear another word of how ‘Baba is taking care of it, it is already very sickening that I am going to have to go through a day of having my two best friends walk in eggshells around me so as not to upset me.
“Amira?” baba called looking at me with suspense. ‘Amira’ means princess in Arabic. He calls me Amira days he isn't calling me pups. “Yes Baba, oh! Y..yes I have” I stammered. “Uhmm... W..we have defense for first period today and I'm running late already. Mr stone doesn't condone lateness” well at least half of it is not a lie. We do have defense for first period today. “But you shouldn't go to school on an empty stomach Yara, you didn't even have dinner last night,” Ammi said strolling out of the living room to meet Baba and me at the entrance. “I... I had something” I lied with guilt as I felt Baba’s eyes piercing at me. “Have something before you leave Amira”. Baba said calmly. “I am not hungry” I replied trying to sound firm and forcing myself from crying. I felt as my parents drew me close to themselves and hug me. “You do not have to worry about what the council said so much Pup, we are handling it,” Baba said as I loosened my stiff muscles and let in another round of tears. I let loose of their hug and shrugged. “I need to speak to the council concerning their thought on my own”, Ammi made gestures as if trying to tell me to stay quiet but I didn't obey, “ it is not fair that I am not allowed to talk on a matter that concerns me! What type of an Alpha will I make if I keep hiding in the shadow of my parents?!” I continued raising my voice. “I have thought long and hard about this. If Baba is bent on doing this for me on his own! Without at all consulting me, and allowing me to speak my truth. Then I will denounce my position as the next Alpha and leave the family business!” I couldn't turn to look at my parent's eyes as I knew they were disappointed and I didn't want to go back on my words. I opened the entrance door and banged it behind me. Breathe Yara... They understand why you needed to raise your voice, I tried to reassure myself as I walked briskly to my car and drove out of the mansion.
Yara’s pov end.
At nukhba Academy, Aliana and Reena were
standing right outside the main entrance with worried faces and unsettled hands waiting for Yara. They have been standing since when they noticed Yara hasn't made it to school. “Why wasn't she picking up when we called,” Aliana implored gawking at the school’s gate. “What could be wrong with her? Her line is not connecting” Reena said distressed. They both kept their eyes on the school’s gate so they wouldn't miss Yara’s entrance. After what felt like an eternity of waiting. Yara’s car presented itself in the compound and made its way to the parking lot. Excited Aliana and Reena jumped out of their skins and made their way to join Yara. “Yara!” they exclaimed as they jumped on their friend as though they had found her after she went missing. Dumbfounded Yara with widened eyes, hugged her friends back and asked “what is going on?” Aliana and Reena immediately broke from the hug looking at each other surprised and then at Yara. “We couldn't reach you last night,” Reena said still surprised at Yara’s question. “We heard what happened at the council meeting” Aliana continued. Yara put her head down, she had expected them to be worried. But she wasn't ready to talk about it. Not after the outburst, she had with her parents. She took a deep breath and made to answer their question, just then the bell for first period went off. Saved by the bell. She thought. She didn't have an answer to their questions yet. “Uhmm how about we talk about it later, we wouldn't want to miss a second of Mr. Stone’s class”.
Yara’s pov.
I haven't been more grateful to be interrupted by the bell. I know Aliana and Reena are only really worried about me and they are trying to support me. But i am not ready to open about this, I am afraid I do not know how to control my emotions when it comes to this, and I do not want to throw my emotions at them. I hope Baba and Ammi understand I didn't mean to raise my voice at them.
At the gymnasium, the students had formed a circle in the leaving the center of the circle empty for the instructor, Mr stone. Aliana, Reena and I were behind the circle, we had come in a little late, and the best seats were already taken. Just when I thought I had escaped the interrogation, Aliana glanced at me and whispered. “How are you holding up Yara?” Reena looking right at me too muttered “you know you can talk to us right? We are here for you Yara” they both nodded with a faint smile. “you guys, it's fine,” I lied, “everything is all under control” I mumbled hoping they didn't notice my voice was shaky with tears. I raised my head to force the tear that was about to trickle down my cheek back. ‘Hold it in Yara, you're stronger than you think’. “Attention everybody” My thoughts were interrupted by Mr stone who was waving his hands in the air, as though we weren't already looking at him. The whole class’s attention is now turned to the center of the circle. “Good! I am pleased to disclose to you that we have a transfer student” he announced motioning to the Tall boy standing next to him. I froze. There he is, my soul... “ introduce yourself will you” Mr stone said gesturing to my Moroccan dream standing magnificently in front of us. He cleared his throat and parted his glorious lips from the other. “Hello everyone, my name is Asad, I am a transfer student from Egypt” oh mother luna! Such sweetness in his voice. I noticed his hazel eyes piercing through the crowd. Could he be looking for me? Oh Athena I can't feel my legs. Then again, his eyes met mine and I forgot that which kept me worried.
