"I know you're right, grandpa," Jayden shook off Caroline's hand gently and whispered to her, "I shouldn't have brought you here."
He made an unwise choice.
Nina was an ideal fiancée in his grandpa's eyes. If Jayden wanted to cancel the engagement, he needed Nina's agreement.
Otherwise, he would lose the support of his grandpa. He hadn't gained full control of the Lambert Company and his brother was a threat to his position.
Caroline was eventually driven out of this party.
Then the focus of this party was on Nina Amber again. She looked quite like the hostess in this family.
Did everyone see that? Jayden's female companion was driven out of this party.
People who had expected a big scene were disappointed.
Nina looked at Jayden. She had to admit that he was indeed handsome. With an angular face and a pair of black and sharp eyes, he was awfully charming as he bit his lower lip.
But such a man with a decent look betrayed her, or rather the owner of the body.
If it was the owner of the body who was standing in front of them, she must have shouted at Jayden and asked why he would bring Caroline here. But now Nina only took a glimpse at him and reached out her hand, "Grandpa Lambert is there watching us. I think we'd better have a dance together now."
Jayden took a peek at Grandpa Lambert. He was looking at them indeed.
Then Jayden had no choice but to take her hand, "You're not like yourself, Nina."
Nina Amber was so insane in the past that he could not stand to stay with her.
"Things changed."
"Not this fast." Jayden sneered.
Just a few days ago, Nina tried to commit suicide.
But now she looked quite calm even though she saw Caroline and Jayden walking over to her hand-in-hand.
How was that possible?
Jayden said coldly, "Don't play tricks on me, Nina."
"You mean this?" Nina rolled up her sleeves to show the cut on her wrist, "That's not a trick, but a piece of evidence. It's proof of a woman's love for you. What she wanted was not your money, but you and your sincerity. You don't have to be that cruel even if you don't love her."
Nina sounded quite sincere and honest. But Jayden wasn't listening. He said coldly, "I won't forget what you did to Caroline."
"Whatever," Nina smiled, "You have an older brother, right, Mr. Lambert?"
"Why did you mention him?" Jayden's voice got colder.
"Nothing. I think your grandpa prefers your older brother," Nina fixed her hair and continued, "You know what I mean to you, Jayden. You need me. You know what your grandpa will think of you if you insisted on canceling the engagement."
"I'm warning you, Nina Amber. Don't play tricks on me," Jayden's voice got colder, "You should be the one to tell my grandpa why I want to cancel the engagement. I will prove to you I'm still better than my brother without you."
His older brother was nothing but a lunatic.
"Why do you hate me so much?" Nina asked gently.
Jayden lowered his gaze and there was no love in his cold eyes. He said in a gentle voice, "I have never loved you. I'm only engaged to you because of my grandpa. The one I love has always been Caroline Dawson.
"I want you to remember what you said."
Nina stopped and turned away, but then she suddenly moved closer to Jayden and whispered something to Jayden with a faint smile on her face.
Hearing her words, Jayden's face quickly turned sour and he couldn't help but shout, "I swear that will never happen!."
"Aww, Mr. Lambert, you're such a boring person."
Nina moved closer to him.
Jayden didn't know her intention and he put his hand between them and said, "What do you want?"
"I just want to get back at you, dear."
Nina smiled and stood on her toes to kiss his cheeks.
Then they heard the sound of the camera shutter.
In the morning, sunlight pierced through the curtain and shone on the woman who was watching the television.
It was reported on the screen that there was an explosion in a skyscraper and a woman was killed in this accident. Her name was Nina Amber, a detective at Queen Detective Agency.
A photo of that woman was shown on the TV.
The woman on the TV was oddly familiar to her.
Nina knew why she was hunted and killed. She had found something she shouldn't have known.
She could still remember how the killer looked at her when he killed her. Hatred and anger were written all over his face, and it looked as though only her death could cool him down.
It was dark there so she couldn't see his face clearly. But she could remember his eyes. They looked familiar but she could not remember where she had seen them.
Nina was struck with a headache, which might be the sequela of the reincarnation. After all, not everyone gets a second go at life and most second chances were only given to those who had paid a grave price for it.
Nina turned off the television and took a look in the mirror before she picked up her phone and gave a phone call.
It took a few seconds before the call was answered.
A man shouted, "You disappointed me, Nina. What am I to you? A mortuary object for the tomb of your romance?"
"Mr. Lee," Nina opened her mouth and said in a hoarse voice, "I was not quite myself a few days ago. Now I'm fine."
"Not quite yourself? I heard you wanted to commit suicide!" the man continued to shout, "I've told you that a woman should not rely on her man entirely. She ought to have her own career. You've lost your career and your love. I've put in a lot of effort to make you a movie star. But now all my efforts ended in vain."
The owner of Nina's body was a famous fashion YouTuber in New York.
She was so beautiful that she would become the focus of every party held in the entertainment circle.
Her agent was Cole Lee, a famous agent in this circle. He was responsible for Nina Amber since she was only 18. Now she had become the cover girl of most fashion magazines.
Cole wanted to make her a movie star but before he could do that, the owner of the body tried to commit suicide, and that almost ruined his plan.
"I was so silly," Nina said, "I won't do that again."
"You think you still got a second chance?" Cole shouted, "A missed opportunity is gone forever, my dear."
Nina was speechless. She didn't know why the owner of the body would give up her promising future for such a man. Even if she was filthy rich, she needed to have her own career.
She couldn't figure out why Jayden was so enchanting to the owner of the body that the latter would rather die than lose him.
"I was so stupid at that time." That is the only reason Nina could find.
Cole didn't buy it, "I've got a good script for you. But now they've found someone else."
"We can do this slowly," Nina said, "I just don't want you to give me up. I can prove my competence. I don't want to give up like this," her voice got a bit soft, "I don't want to commit suicide. It's just... just because… they were so cruel to me and I just lost my sanity."
It was the first time Cole heard Nina speaking in such a determined voice. She was, in the past, a puppet of her family.
She would listen to them no matter what they said. She was just unable to go against her father's authority.
It had taken Cole a few years to make Nina a famous YouTuber. Now he was just unwilling to give her up.
He was pretty angry but he didn't know why.
He opened his mouth and said, "I think we should meet this weekend."
