It's the weekend, the day Maurice and Juliet both planned on meeting each other's parents. They decided they would meet with Juliet's parents before meeting with his. Juliet informs her mom that Maurice was coming over to their house. Juliet's mom, Victoria, is a widow who lost her husband in the cold hands of death. Her husband died while working in a factory. The building collapsed anIt'sd unfortunately, her husband was among the people who died inside the building. Ever since, she has been the breadwinner. She tries her best to make sure Juliet and her younger brother are comfortable. Victoria makes all necessary arrangements in anticipation of the arrival of her daughter and the person she was bringing. Few hours later, both Juliet and Maurice appeared. They received a warm welcome from her mom. Maurice gets nervous. Juliet notices and helds his hands as they walked inside the house. They feel at home. Victoria offers them something to eat. She observed Maurice. She waits for him to be done eating before she began. Few minutes later, they were all done with their meal. Juliet offers to clear the dishes. She comes back and sits beside Maurice, she held his hands, " Mom, this is Maurice, my fiancee, we are engaged", she says as she flaunts the ring on her finger. Her mother tries to control her excitement as she views the ring on her daughter's finger. " I am really happy for you, my child". Victoria faces Maurice with a more serious look this time. She asks a few questions to Maurice which he confidently answers. " I love your daughter a lot ma. She means the world to me. I would never do anything to hurt her. I won't make her shed tears. The only tears she did be shedding would be tears of joy. I may not have a lot but the little I have, I will use to make her happy. I want to marry your daughter because I see my future with her. I want my kids to carry her features and that can only be possible if you gave us your approval to this union", Maurice says with every sincerity in his heart. " I have heard all you have said my child. I could tell you are a good man from a responsible home. Juliet is the only daughter I have, she means the world to me and I wouldn't want to see her in pain. I can tell you two love each other a lot but are you sure you both are ready for the challenges ahead. It won't be easy." Victoria says sceptical about the decision they made. She felt they were too young to get married. But looking at things, they already made up their mind who was she to go against them. Juliet comes in and Victoria gives her approval. Both couples are very happy. They both hugged Victoria. Maurice whispers beneath Victoria's ears, " I promise, you won't regret it". She pats him at the back. They both leave saying their goodbyes. Next day, they both went over to Maurice's place. Juliet could not help feel nervous. Thoughts run through her mind, as she starts to sweat profusely and on her hands. They both entered into the house. Maurice mom welcomes them both. She offers them something but they insisted they were ok. Maurice introduces Juliet to his mother as his fiance. His mother, Jane, trying to digest what her son had just told her. She scans Juliet from head to her toes. Jane begins to question Juliet about her background. She finds out she is just a common teacher. That moment, Jane feels disgusted. She had dream of her son marrying a rich lady not a common. Her son barely earns enough, how would they cope in marriage with their little income. Juliet could sense the irritation and dissatisfaction on Jane's face. She didn't hide the fact that she didn't like her. Jane speaks ill of Juliet which made her feel bad. Juliet couldn't hold back her emotions, she walked out. Maurice runs after her trying to apologize for what his mother said. Juliet jerks off his hands. " I am not upset that she spoke to me in such manner, I am upset that you didn't defend me in front of your mom", she says as she begins to tear up. Maurice tries to comfort her but she pays no attention to him and leaves entering a taxi back home. Maurice goes back to confront his mom, furious by her action towards Juliet. " How could you mom?, how could you have talked to Juliet in that manner. You don't even know her and you already judged her. What is it about her that you don't like?". " She isn't good for you. She isn't up to your standard. What could she possibly offer to you?", Jane says. " Love, peace of mind mom, she gives me peace. I feel whole when I am with her. I won't leave her if that's what you want " " Then be ready to lose me cause I won't accept her in my house", she challenges her son. " You don't have an option mom", he says and walks out of the house.
