Chapter 2: Ah, now there is two of us

The little boy was still whining by the wall, and the two staff men got up, too. Roo snarled his lips like an animal, lighting another spark in Adna's mind. "Where were we?" said Roo. "Actually, you could leave. Thanks for all the effort," Adna said, trying to hide that she was triggered. "They say a hunter does not share her prey, huh... Is that what you believe?" Roo said calmly. Adna froze. NO... THIS CAN'T BE... "Be my guest," she managed to mask her anxiousness and even added a dramatic bow to it. "My pleasure," said Roo, with a faint smile. Roaring, he began the attack. Roo moved like a predator, his strength far beyond what the humans could handle. Roo grabbed the bald man and slammed him into the bar counter, breaking the wood. Adna ducked under a punch from the second staff member and hit him with an uppercut so powerful that he flew backward and landed in a heap, with a bleeding jaw. "AUGH! Is it... my... tooth??" He picked up a bloody tooth off the ground, not believing what had happened to him. "Not... Not... anymore!" he mumbled, as two more teeth fell off. In the meantime, the waiter had brought a gun, trying to hold it with his injured hand, still tearing from pain. His hands shook as he pointed it at Roo. “Stay back!” he shouted. Roo paused, standing under the tall window. Moonlight streamed in, illuminating his pale face. Adna’s eyes widened. She zoomed in on him. The moon was doing its magic, and its light hit him fully. AS I GUESSED... WELL... LET HIM HAVE HIS SHOW THEN. Roo’s body began to change. His muscles rippled, his bones shifting and cracking. His skin darkened, and in a few seconds, there was a giant male wolf standing next to the window. With his brown fur and piercing blue eyes, he looked so frightening under the moonlight. The transformation was terrifying to watch. The waiter with the gun froze, dropping the gun. The other two’s jaws dropped. "Call the priest!" stuttered the poor waiter. The bald guy, who had just remembered he needed to cross himself, whispered, "He is asleep, you bastard!" "Then call the firefighters... ambulance... police... I DON'T KNOOOW... CALL SOMEONE!!!" The other man trembled: "Then go call your mom, you i***t! Tell her not to give birth no more!" Adna began to laugh again, impressed by watching the show, not expecting a comic scene out of it. She wanted to take part. So she cleared her throat, unaware she was walking to the window, getting close to the moonlight. "You could be quicker. See? HE was the problem, not me! You could at least... AUGH!!" Adna felt the sudden pull of the moon. She tried to resist, but it was impossible. Her own body began to change, her human form giving way to the wolf within. A miniature black wolf was standing at the corner, blinking like a puppy after the unexpected change. When their transformation was complete, there was just silence in the room. The men were shaking, while Roo and Adna stood side by side—massive wolves with glowing eyes and sharp claws. The bar staff didn’t stand a chance. Although the waiter boy tried to escape, Roo made a faster move and stopped him, growling at him. Adna, adapted to her change now, put herself in between them. "This one is mine." Hearing a wolf talking, the men were literally on their knees. And one actually pissed his pants. Guess who? Yes. THE BOY. "Ew, now I cannot fully enjoy my victory. How could I digest such a gross, stinky piece of meat??? Yet, boys like him deserve no chance... Ah! I got an idea!!" Biting his broken hand and cutting his radial artery with her sharp teeth, leaving him to bleed to death, was her I.D.E.A. "Bon appétit, madam! We don't have much time to make a gallery of bloody artworks, and we have to eat anyway..." said Roo, showing no sign of judgment or fear on his face toward her brutality. The fight was over quickly. Blood stained the floor, and the bar was filled with munching sounds. Roo and Adna didn’t stay to admire their work, but they served themselves a good meal before leaving. "I'm stuffed. The bald one had a fatty belly. It melted in my mouth." Roo rolled his lips to avoid smiling. She was eating twice her body size!! "I thought the leaner you are, the less you eat," said Roo, calmly chewing. "Genes, genes... That's the only thing I am proud of my family for, hehe." "And the rest of it...?" Roo said, swallowing his last piece, staring at Adna for an answer. "Um... The rest is history, haha!! But seriously: They were chaotic people themselves, raising me up as the issue I am." "Issue?? How about hurricane?" Roo said, mixing truth and joke. "Hmmm... fine, I am guilty of that. But why is it all about me? How about you??" Roo looked away. "I am just... ordinary," he said. "Oh! You are??" Adna responded in an innocent way. "Um... yes??" he said. Adna teased him: "Ok; so the earth is flat, penguins can fly, and you are ordinary. A werewolf who seeks trouble is the new norm?? At least you gotta have a name..." "Roo." he responded, smiling forcefully at the sick joke. "And...?" Adna said, impatiently. "And what??" Roo said, watching her, finishing the leftovers, licking them off of her paws. "Do you do anything?? Do you have anyone??" she said. "I... move..." "You move what?? Your flat ass, from danger to danger??" Adna's eyes sparkled with mischievousness as she said this. Roo couldn't resist his smile, which he quickly hid. "Hehe... um... no. I travel around the world. You know the struggles of the full moon... We can't settle." Adna stared at him in total silence, willing him to talk more. "... and I don't do THIS normally..." Adna smiled after a long pause. "Hmm... you are right. Pretty ordinary. I'm Adna. I used to do art..." "I could tell..." Roo cut her off. Adna didn't lose herself to his tease. "Yes, thank you. UNTIL an asshole werewolf who wanted to give me a hickey went too far..." "Should I believe this??" Roo interrupted her again, enjoying the game. "I could not care less about that, BUT LET ME COOK AND FINISH, OK?? I ended up being a hipster eventually and lost... all I had. Over a boy... Poof..." "I'm sorry..." Roo whispered. Adna tried to get over herself. "Well, don't be. Thanks for your help, but we should get out of here ASAP. Or they will find us and use us as sled dogs at best." Finishing that fancy dinner, they went out the door and ran into the forest, as the village was asleep. They disappeared into the darkness, to where they belonged. The darkness was also covering Adna's tired eyes. Shutting down her exhausted mind and making all those nice memories vanish in her head, she reminded herself there was nothing left of them... She fell asleep with deep sorrow and fear. Fear for the unknown future of hers, Roo, and whether she would make it out of trouble this time... And SURVIVE HIM. Yeah... Survive the beloved Roo himself.
