Ethan stared at Ruby, his beautiful little sister, only that she wasn't little, she was standing directly under the living room light which cast a beautiful glow to her pale skin, her blue eyes shining, reflecting the light, her lips in a pout, she always pouted when she was angry, which made her look cute.
“Not now Ruby”. Ethan said gently.
She moved to stand in his way, but she saw he really wasn't going to answer her that night.
“Fine!”, “But tomorrow, you tell me what this is about”, she said, moving out of the way.
Ethan sighed, moving to his room. He wished he knew.
Ava woke up with a start, it felt like she had just woken from a bad dream, and her head was throbbing badly, only it wasn't a dream.
Standing up gently so as not to further disturb her head, she moved to where her bags were placed, popping two aspirin into her mouth after retrieving it from her bag.
She sat down for a while wondering if she still wanted to drive herself or book a plane and have her car shipped to Asheville.
She got up, making up her mind, preparing her things as fast as she could
She didn't think she could stand the thought of being up above ground level right now, and she knew she needed the fresh air.
Soon she had gotten her stuff ready, eaten something, signed out, and was ready to hit the road.
After fifteen hours of driving, 5 different stops in different locations to take a break, she had finally reached Asheville.
She checked her time. It was just 7 in the evening. She was certain she could still achieve something before calling it a day.
Stretching her stiff limbs which were starting to ache, she picked up her phone, dialing her go to person and best friend.
Camilla Winters added the last douche of lipstick, giving herself a final look when she heard her phone ring. Putting on her earrings and rings, she answered the call.
“I am heading to your house right now, since you have decided to disappear on me again”. “Called you a million times and I have been sent to voicemails.
Ava checked her phone to see if what Camilla was saying was true, how had she not heard it or seen it till now.
“I am sorry”, “I really didn't see it”,“ I have had a lot on my mind lately”, Ava responded.
“Still doesn't change the fact that I am coming over”, Camilla said, putting on her red bottom heels.
“And you are spilling everything once I get there”, she added before ending the call.
Camilla sped along the road of blowing rock, watching the blue ridge parkway slide past her car, then the linn cove viaduct and then the grandfather mountain. She laughed to herself, amused by the fact that she had concentrated on them as she sped past them.
She remembered how she had moved to this side because Ava had moved to North Carolina too. She didn't want to stay in Asheville though, blowing rock was more her style and she felt it was best if they had a bit of a distance.
Ava stared at her blank screen. The call hadn't gone as planned. Camilla coming over wasn't part of the plan, she still had work to do, and Camilla being there would stop all the work she needed to do.
Checking her time again, she dialed her editor. Camilla wouldn't be there till the next 2hours, so she was going to see if there was anything she could achieve at all.
She picked at the first ring, and soon she had sent the manuscript to be edited to her editor.
She used to be the one doing all the editing and writing and marketing and everything basically, till she got her company. Now she had people in charge of them, though she could still do them herself if she wasn't so busy.
She sent the last manuscript, breathing out loud as she did so. She was a writer, it was something she had always loved, even as a child.
That had also been the reason she had moved to Asheville, to expand her imagination, and the calm environment made it easy for her to write without distraction.
She headed to her closet to bring what she was going to wear that evening, knowing Camilla there was no way there weren't going somewhere, and she didn't take no for an answer.
She had just finished taking her shower and choosing the outfits for the evening when she heard her car come into the garage, Camilla knew the gate password and the main house password, so getting into her apartment was something she could easily do.
She sighed, going to the front door to welcome her in.
“Hey!”, “Smile, don't look like i have come to give you a death sentence”, Camilla said, stepping into the living area and giving Ava a hug.
Ava smiled, stepping to the side to let her in, and making sure her door was properly locked. It wasn't something she needed to do, since the door was smart enough to lock automatically, but it was something she always did, just so her mind could be at peace.
Ava gave Camilla a once over, noticing her outfit. She knew she was dressed that way not because she was coming to see her, but because she had plans of going out. But she was still shocked because Camilla always dressed at her place, if they were going out from her side.
They weren't necessarily the same size, or had the same body shape, but their clothes still always found a way to fit perfectly.
“Going somewhere?”, Ava asked, knowing the answer to her question already.
“Yes”. “And you are going with me”, Camilla replied, dragging her to her closet.
“You are not wearing that to follow me”, turning to Ava at the same time.
She had seen the outfit immediately she stepped into the room, and had been glad that Ava was prepared, but after doing a double scan, she knew there was no way she was letting Ava step out with that.
After hours of going through her closet, doing her makeup, they were finally out, heading to the place she knew she might spend the rest of the night in.
“I am getting married”, Ava said, watching Camilla's reaction.
Camilla looked at Ava, not knowing which news to be more shocked to, the fact that she was getting married, or the fact that grandpa Asher was dead.
