One year later
The reunion invitations came in the mail one Saturday morning in May.
“Oh, look. Too bad. We can’t go.” Manny tossed his on the breakfast table and bent over his tablet again. “There’s a new vegetarian café in Seaside. You want to try it?”
We’d been toying with eliminating meat from our diet for a few months. The idea had gotten a lot of talk from both of us, but not much movement toward actually doing anything different in the kitchen.
I went back to opening mail, separating bills from junk, when our phones rang.
