Episode 2 : Bread crumbs

786 Words
On a cold, foggy morning, the air seemed pale and sad; nothing but mournful voices suffering from hunger and fear of the unknown future Chris woke up pale and hungry. The residents gathered together to share the remaining crumbs that Carl had brought them earlier Chris was a cheerful person who loved life, but he never imagined he would experience such a tragedy. Chris soon began to be consumed by nightmares and ominous, bad thoughts that haunted him constantly There was also the young man Mario, who was known to be a very quiet and mysterious young man. Mario was not sociable, did not like friends, and was extremely selfish Mario was indifferent to what was happening because he had lived through the worst. Chris watched him the whole time, trying to learn some of his indifference; perhaps he would become a little stronger The food ran out completely, and the only clean water left was from the river that flowed beside them. The young men gathered together to find solutions because they had to act quickly. They decided to form a small group to go to one of the nearby towns Mario asked to be part of the group and asked Chris to accompany him, but Chris refused and began to tremble with fear and anxiety Mario: Come on, Chris, let's go. We need to get the food Chris: No, no, I don't want to. I'm scared and tired. Please, I don't want to go Mario: Okay, Chris, behave yourself like a child and go sleep in Mama's lap Chris couldn't bear what Mario said to him and went crying near the riverbank, cursing himself The young men decided to move at sunset to a town near the forest, but they did not know what awaited them there The group moved there at sunset. The town was completely deserted. The young men tried to find a mobile phone or any means of communication to call for help, but they found nothing that might be useful to them The young men entered some of the houses that were partially destroyed by the terrorist attack, but unfortunately, they found the bodies of murdered children, dead men, and the naked bodies of women who had been r***d and killed. It was like a horror movie, but it was reality Mario wandered among the houses, witnessing the disaster that had befallen them. It was then that Mario realized the value of life when he saw entire families murdered in cold blood. He thought to himself, "My God, all these people had lives, they had innocent dreams. Why do the innocent always die?" The young men tried searching many houses, hoping to find food, but they found only breadcrumbs and some rotten vegetables unfit for human consumption Mario was very frustrated but determined to find food. Mario continued searching for food While Mario was searching for food, one of the young men shouted, "Run! The terrorists are coming!" Everyone fled towards the ruined houses, hoping to find a hiding place But Mario didn't move from his spot and was determined to find food Mario remained alone inside the house, his mind filled with questions: Why had the group fled and left him alone? Why were humans so attached to life and so afraid of death? Mario didn't pay attention to what was happening and watched the terrorists searching for them, but by chance, Mario found some canned food in the house, and his frustration turned into hope Mario brought a bag and began filling the cans into it. He was nervous, his eyes fixed on the window, and his thoughts began to turn into anxiet Mario waited for the terrorists to pass through the street and then went into the woods, running through the bushes, his mind preoccupied with the fate of the group that had escaped During his journey, Mario considered eating until he was full before reaching the people of his village and sharing the food He was saying to himself, "Why should I give them the food? I deserve all this food for myself. I'm the one who sacrificed myself to bring this food." After Mario picked up a can of cheese to eat, he thought of Chris and of Carl, who lost his life trying to feed others That was the first time Mario decided to put aside his selfishness. He said, "I shouldn't be better than Carl. I'll give this food to those who deserve it." He reached them, his face amazed to see all his friends alive and safely at the hideout Chris watched Mario laughing and telling them, "I brought food. No one will starve. We'll eat today so we can live tomorrow."
