Stella’s pov
The next morning, I went straight to my uncle’s house.
I couldn’t wait anymore.
I needed answers.
I drove to his house as early as 7:00am.
Once I got there I rang the doorbell.
Richard opened the door.
His face immediately changed when he saw me.
“Stella?”
“Can I come in?”
“Of course.”
I walked inside.
He looked nervous.
“What’s wrong?”
I stared at him.
“Uncle”
“I want to ask you a question,”
“And I want you to be honest with me.”
“Did you know Corbin Cruz?”
He went silent.
My heart dropped.
“You know him?”
“Stella, it’s complicated.”
“Then explain it.”
He walked toward the kitchen.
“Stella, it's best we don't have this conversation please.”
“But why, Uncle?”
“Why?”
I got emotional at that point.
Tears poured down my face.
“Your father knew many people in the business world.”
“That isn’t what I asked.”
He turned around.
“Yes.”
I sighed .
“How well?”
He looked away.
“Tell me”
“Your father worked with Corbin years ago.”
My mind went blank.
“Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
“Because I was trying to protect you.”
“Protect me?”
“Protect me from what?”
He didn’t answer.
I stepped closer.
“Wait”
“Did Corbin have anything to do with my parents’ deaths?”
“No.”
His answer came too quickly.
I stared at him.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
But something in his eyes told me he was hiding something.
“You're not telling me something.”
“I have told you what you asked.”
I wiped my tears and picked up my purse.”
“You know what, I'll go get answers myself.”
I left his house angry.
Got in my car and drove off at speed.
On my way home, my phone rang.
It was Corbin.
“Where are you?”
“Why?”
“Because someone has been following you.”
I looked through my rearview mirror.
A black SUV was behind me.
My heart started beating fast.
“Corbin…”
“Don’t panic.”
“There’s a black SUV behind me.”
“I know.”
“What do you mean you know?”
“Because my security team has been tracking it.”
I gripped the steering wheel.
“Then who is inside?”
There was silence.
“Corbin?”
His voice became serious.
“Stella, don’t go home.”
My blood ran cold.
“Why?”
“Because whoever is following you already knows where you live.”
I suddenly heard a loud bang.
My car shook.
I screamed.
Someone had hit the back of my car.I lost control of the steering wheel.
The phone fell from my hand.
I tried to regain control.
Then I heard Corbin shouting through the phone.
“STELLA!”
Everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes again, I wasn’t in my car.
I was lying in a strange dark room.
Everywhere was dark.
The light bulb was dim; I could barely see anything.
My head hurts.
My hands were shaking.
I tried to sit up.
Then I heard a voice coming from the corner of the room.
“You finally woke up.”
I froze.
It was an unfamiliar voice.
I slowly turned my head.
The person walked out slowly.
It was a masculine figure.
I have no idea who this person is.
He was wearing a hood,
Then he finally removed the hood, then I saw hes face.
And the person standing in front of me smiled.
“I’m sorry, Stella.”
I stared at him in disbelief.
“You should never have started looking for the truth.”
This is First time in my life I’ve been kidnapped.
“Who are you and what do you want from me?”
“Well I’m glad you asked Stella.”
He smiled at me.
“I’m Ethan West,”
“A journalist who has spent years investigating Cruz holdings.”
I was confused.
I didn’t understand why a journalist would kidnap me.
“What do you want from me ?”
“Why did you bring me here?”
He looked at me and smiled.
He walked around me.
He placed a picture in front of me.
“Looks familiar?”
And from that moment it seemed like all hope was lost.
The people I trusted the most and wouldn’t expect were together in that picture.
They were both wearing an engagement ring.
