Chapter 18

"Marion?!"

Marion was startled, nearly tripping as she descended from the vehicle to the ground.

"Lana?"

Lana pulled away from Dexter and jumped on the remaining steps. They had no idea where these two could have been, both she and Dexter had been waiting for them for almost half the day!

"We need to talk!"

Marion glanced toward the house, where Dexter was standing. He raised his hand to her mate, Garren who nodded in acknowledgement while getting out of the same vehicle.

"I-I can explain." She stammered.

She felt guilty knowing what she had done and that she would now be dealing with Lana's anger.

But, due to physical exhaustion, Marion was too tired to argue with her right now. She and Garren had spent the night sleeping inside the cramped vehicle parked on the side of the dirt road.

She winced when she heard Lana's angry voice.

"Why did you betray us? Why is Zuki with Killian? And the twins? Why are they locked up? How can you do this to us? We trusted you." She heard Lana's voice vibrating with rage. Her eyes glared with anger.

"No, please, walk with me. We will go see the twins now." She wrapped her fingers around Lana's arm.

Marion needed to use her gift and manipulate Lana to calm down or she would disrupt the whole house if they heard her screaming at the top of her lungs.

"I need you to calm down. Don't talk, just come with me." Her eyes glowed and staring straight into Lana's eyes.

Lana was a little alarmed when Marion touched her arm, but she suddenly lost control of her senses and felt that she had blindly followed whatever Marion was saying to her.

Beginning to feel the effects of Marion's mind manipulation, Lana nodded, and Marion gestured her toward the side of the house.

Their pace went fast as they rounded the side of the house.

Marion nodded to the men guarding the doors.

"Your Majesty, Beta; Miss Marion." They bowed and greeted her as well as both men behind them.

"Yes. Anything I need to know about?" Garren, being the pack's Beta, asked the men on guard.

"None, Beta. They are still keeping quiet; they are in some kind of meditation." The leader of the six men reported.

Garren merely nodded at the men before looking at Marion. He ordered the guards to open the door for them and, with awkward silence, all four of them entered the room quietly.

She pulled Lana inside, motioned her to sit on the chair at one side of the room.

"Come, take a seat here." Marion instructed her.

"Marion, what's going on?" Lana asked as she tried to pull her arm back away from her.

Marion refused to let go of Lana's arm, yet, she gripped it very tightly and, with a firm voice, manipulated her to sit.

"Sit down, please."

She complied, but Marion could sense that she was upset.

"Prince Dexter, Beta; Miss Marion." They bowed and greeted the three of them with respect and glanced curiously at Lana while Marion assisted her in sitting down on the chair.

"Is she here to be detained as well?" The bulkier man of the group asked.

"No, she's my mate!" Dexter scowled at the man in her defence.

Stunned at Dexter's voice, he cleared his throat and hurriedly apologized to the second prince, acknowledging his mistake.

"I'm sorry your majesty."

Lana observed the people inside the room. Four more men are positioned in different locations. While the twins, Souma and Ren are in a lotus meditating position on the floor, they sit cross-legged, each foot is placed on the opposite thigh. The holding cell where they were in is made of pure silver and covered with a glistening type of thick liquid.

"Wolfsbane." She thought to herself.

"All of you leave us. But, be on guard outside! We'll call for you when we are done in here!" Garren told them in his authoritative Beta voice.

The four men bowed and hurried out the door.

Dexter stood up behind Lana, giving her a half smile while placing his hands on her shoulders, gently massaging her tensed muscles.

His warm hand on her shoulder helped relieve her anger towards Marion.

"Now, whatever it is. Tell me " Lana said in a controlled voice directed to Marion.

Marion paced back and forth in front of her.

"Why are these two detained here like some kind of criminal? Let them out now!" Lana said, pointing at the two unmoving twins on the floor.

"It's not easy. We are following the Alpha King's orders. We have no choice! They will be let out once we receive direct orders for their release from Killian himself."

"No choice? How about Zuki? Did you give her a choice when you drugged her and handed her to Killian?" Lana said, raising her voice loud enough to be heard outside.

"I know that! And I'm sorry for what I did, I really am... But, I'm also protecting the welfare of the people in our pack. Do you have any idea what an Alpha King is capable of? A person like him can wipe out our whole pack with just a snap of his fingers! I had no other choice!" She countered, screaming back breathless.

Dexter and Garren looked at both women with flushed faces; merely observing while they bickered.

Lana gazed at Marion for a moment. Yes, she was really upset and disappointed in her. But, she isn't any better. She is also guilty of abandoning her family the whole night. She was blinded by ecstasy in Dexter's arms, while the twins sat in prison the whole night and Zuki, --who knows what Killian is doing to her right now!

She let out a deep sigh.

Marion was right. Like most of them, they didn't have any choice. She knows what it's like to be in the hierarchy. Following orders is what she's been doing her whole life. Living in the Minamoto Clan was barely bearable because Zuki and the twins were there.

Lana leaned back on the chair and covered her face with her hands.

"What should we do now...?" She slowly asked in resignation.

Lana stared at her solemnly. "The truth is, I don't know. But, for everybody's sake, all we can do is wait. Wait until King Killian gives his orders or until we receive any news from those two love birds at the Crest Lodge."

She and Marion exchanged knowing glances, took deep breaths and forced a smile on each other.

"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to bring out my anger on you. It's just that. It hurts knowing that you betrayed us." Lana said.

Marion looked at her straight in the eyes and answered weakly. "I am sorry too... I really am. If it makes you feel any better, my guilt is eating me up right now. But, I really had no choice. I just hope that Zuki will find it in her heart to forgive me."

Lana merely nodded at her.

Minutes ticked past, an awkward silence enveloped the six of them inside the room, --six, including the already silent twins meditating.

"You two done?" Souma asked out of the blue, while speaking English with his thick Japanese accent. His head tilted slightly, while his arms were folded on his chest and he quirked an eyebrow at them.

Loud abrasive sounds of clashing metals were heard when Renji swung his claws embedded with his life force and sliced through the silver-framed holding cell they were in, --like it was nothing! When the exit was wide enough, he retracted his claws and both men stretched lazily and stepped out of the cage and stopped in front of them.

"Sorry about your cage! I couldn't wait for your Alpha King's order to let us out. I'm cranky when I get hungry, you know." Renji said, smirking at Garren while pointing at the destroyed holding cell.

Shocked by what he just saw. Garren absent-mindedly just nodded his head to Renji.

The twins smirked again at both Dexter and Marion who were equally amazed at their ability to slice through the wolfsbane-coated silver cage.

"How come you didn't try to escape, if you are capable of doing that?" Garren asked in disbelief.

"We don't need to." Both of them replied in unison.

"You seem proud, don't you? And here I was worried about you two!" Lana said, sneering at them, unfazed at their little show off.

The two devils grinned at her uncaring.

"I knew it! You really have no intention of rescuing Zuki from Killian!" Lana said, accusing the twins while pointing a finger at each one of them.

"Lana, she needs to be mated to their Alpha King," Souma said.

"She will be in heat soon. You know it will be worse than last time. Unless they complete the mating ritual," Renji said seriously.

"What are you guys talking about?" Marion asked, confused.

Souma and Ren looked at Lana and nodded to each other, before looking at the other three in the room with grim expressions.

"Zuki is a special she-wolf --she is a 'pure breeder'. She can mate with any creature, and we mean --any creature, even if it's not with your Alpha King. This is because she bears the magical crest blessed by the Sun and Moon Goddesses'. Her strong life-force enables her to produce and give birth to strong, powerful heirs," Souma explained.

"The Minamoto Clan was planning an alliance through marriage with your Alpha King through Princess Zuki. Killian is the best candidate for keeping both bloodlines pure. The clan needed to make sure that when her heat came, she would be mated with him," Souma continued.

"Wait? I don't see where your going at." Dexter asked them in confusion.

"The Vampire King Orpheus has been searching for a pure breeder for hundreds of years. He was not able to produce an heir since his rule. Princess Zuki's family has been keeping her hidden. Because they want the wolf bloodline to remain strong. If he gets his hands on Zuki it will be the end of our race. A child born between the union of a pure-breeder and a vampire will be a weapon of destruction to our kind! We cannot allow him to know that Zuki is the one he's been looking for," Souma explained further.

"Did you know about this?" Marion inquired Lana.

Lana shook her head in disbelief.

"I mean, I am aware that Zuki is a 'pure-breeder'. But, never about the clan's plan of alliance. This is the first time I've heard it myself," Lana said as she shifted in her seat.

"You mean. The Vampire King knows that zuki is, --like you said, a 'pure-breeder'?" Dexter interrupted.

"The vampires have been keeping a close eye on the Minamoto Clan for years. Our clan gives birth to pure breeders. But, for some reason, Princess Zuki is the first one to be born after a thousand years. He was sending spies every now and then. Some of which we manage to kill. The last time the Princess was in real danger was when a cunning witch got close to her. Princess Zuki was left with only a minor cut, but the witch escaped. That is the reason Queen Adriene erases all memories of the princesses' existence." Renji said through gritted teeth.

"We know that having Princess Zuki here in the United States will seek the interest of the vampire king and put her in danger, especially if he finds out that she is the mate of your Alpha King," Renji continued.

"How would they know if she is a pure-breeder?" Dexter asked again.

"When Princess Zuki goes into heat, she will emit very strong and intoxicating pheromones, --a mating signal. And she will send all unmated males in a runt within two miles radius. They will fight their way to get to her. Even the most disciplined men in your pack will be blinded by her heat. Some mated men have also been said to smell her, but, they were able to control themselves; the mark of their own mate prevented them from attacking. Six months ago, she went in heat for the first time and it lasted three days. Keeping them away from her is one thing, keeping her away from them is another. She will turn into a nymphomaniac... She will crave the desire to mate. We were able to subdue her but with great difficulty at that time. We killed around more than thirty creatures back there. We have been preparing our whole lives for that, the women in our clan are heavily trained. I don't know if there are enough women to protect her here if that happens. Your country has a great number of male population compared to back home." Souma explained worriedly.

"We are very sure that there are spies already lurking in your territory as we speak. We have already sensed atleast about ten, since last night." Renji seconded.

"Then her heat only affects unmated males?" Marion whispered weakly.

"You two don't get affected?" Garren asked, skeptically.

"We don't. Because we are blood related. We can smell it. But, it doesn't affect us like other males." Renji answered.

"How come the two of you know all of this? Lana asked.

"We are loyal members of the Minamoto Clan. Alpha Emperor Gojo entrusted us with this mission. The Japanese royal family knows that the princess is here at this very moment. " Renji replied to her question.

"No wonder we got away easily. There is no way that Emperor Gojo will let Zuki get out of Japan. Do they also know they are mates? Zuki never told her parents. Well, unless you already told them, of course!" Lana angrily said, accusing Souma.

"Lana, she-wolves only go in heat when they find their mate."

"Great, the deception. All along you were all planning and scheming behind our backs!"

"We had to, it's for our bloodlines' sake, for our kind's sake!"

Lana kept quiet. She didn't know what was going on anymore. So, even if Zuki and Killian aren't mates, they are still bound to be together. Fate will still bring them together.

"So... the Minamoto Clan also knew the reason why I went to Japan?" Dexter asked, confirming his thoughts.

"Yes. Why did you think you were able to learn of Princess Zuki's existence? They were suspicious of you to begin with. But, since you are the brother of The Alpha King, they thought it'd be best for you to know about her. It was all part of the plan."

"So... What is happens now?" Lana asked, looking at the twins.

"We have to get Princess Zuki and their Alpha King together. It's what's best for the were-kind. Killian can protect Zuki and they need to produce an heir to keep our kind strong. We have to make sure Vampire King Orpheus doesn't find out about her!" Souma replied to Lana.

"Good! Now that everything is cleared out and we're all on the same page here. We have no disagreement about getting Our Alpha King and your Pure-Breeder Princess together. Right?" Dexter interrupted, looking at them one by one.

Everyone nodded their heads at him in agreement.

"How about we continue this discussion over dinner? Let's grab something to eat. Please... I'm really starving!" Renji said, his voice sounded a little irritated.

"Me too. I'm famished, I spent all my energy mating last night." Dexter continued while winking at Lana.

Lana sent Dexter an exasperating look as she wished the floor would swallow her whole right now!

"Me too! I-I mean, I am hungry too..." Marion seconded, her face colored when she glanced at Garren and saw a twinkle in his eyes.

Souma nodded in agreement.

All six looked at one another, then burst out laughing.

Garren looked at both Souma and Renji seriously. "I will let you two out. If you promise not to approach Crest Lodge!"

The twins nodded in agreement. "We understand."

"I'll take your word for it, gentlemen. I'll be putting my trust in you. Remember don't go there. I'm warning you! We don't want to be in trouble with Killian." Garren warned the twins in his deep Beta tone.

"Oh Lana! See? Everything worked out fine. Let's go back to the pack house. I'll tell them to prepare a feast for us!" Marion said happily while clutching her arm.

"I just realized that we will all become one family. What a small world. Killian and Zuki, You and Dexter and my brother Aston and Danni! Like Wow!"

"Speaking of Aston! Garren, where is the new Alpha of the Red Crest House? He should be the one taking all of this stress instead of me!" Marion asked, facing her mate fuming.

Garren started scratching his neck and looking up at the ceiling, evading Marion's inquiry of her brother.

"Garren?!"

"He was busy. You know... He is with Luna Daniel. They haven't seen each other in a year!"

"I don't care! He needs a good scolding! Let go guys. We will get something to eat. Then, I will deal with my love-struck brother," Marion said, while leading the others out the door.

The men on guard duty outside the holding cell were shocked to see the twins walking out along with them outside. They looked at Garren with their faces full of questions.

"It's ok. I'll take full responsibility." Garren informed the men.

He rounded all the men up and talked to them.

"Go home. Shower, sleep and eat. You have a long night ahead of you. I know you are all quite exhausted from the Claiming Ceremony but, I still need you all on guard tonight. We have the Alpha King and his Queen on our packed lands.We cannot be lax with our security! Their protection is our utmost priority. I'll have the other men change posts with you. You should take your leave!" Garren continued.

"Yes Beta! Prince Dexter; Miss Marion. Please excuse us." They replied in unison, bowing to Prince Dexter before leaving.

"Let's go. I'm really famished! Miss Marion, please lead the way.

I'm taking your word for the feast you promised." Dexter motions Marion.

"Yes. Yes. I understand. Please, come right this way..."
