Chapter Five: First Day At Work

Kiara came downstairs looking simple like a normal salary worker but she still looked elegant and beautiful.Immediately she got downstairs, she headed towards the dining table where her parents were already seated having breakfast together with Alex.Her mother smiled happily the moment she saw her.
“My daughter looks so beautiful this morning,” she said proudly.
Kiara smiled softly and sat down beside her mother.
“Good morning mum, good morning dad”.
“Good morning princess,” her father replied happily.
Alex couldn't stop staring at Kiara. Ever since her return he couldn't take his eyes off her. She looked completely different from the insecure girl he used to know.
Her father smiled warmly.
“So Kiara, how are you feeling about your first day at work today?”
Kiara picked up her cup calmly.
“I feel good dad. A little nervous though”.
“There is no need to be nervous,” her mother quickly assured her. “The company already belongs to you”.
Kiara smiled slightly.
“I still want to learn gradually”.
Her father nodded proudly.
“That is exactly why I know you will become a great leader someday”.
Kiara smiled as they continued their breakfast peacefully while she answered questions from her parents calmly.
After breakfast, Kiara stood up.
“I should get going now so I won't be late”.
Her mother smiled.
“Have a beautiful first day at work”.
Kiara hugged both her parents lightly, picked her bag before heading outside.
Outside the mansion, the family car was already parked while Mr Adams stood beside it waiting respectfully. Immediately he saw Kiara approaching, he smiled warmly like before.
“Good morning young miss”.
Kiara only nodded slightly at him before entering the back seat of the car with a calm expression on her face.Mr Adams paused slightly.The old Kiara would have smiled warmly and greeted him cheerfully.
Trying not to think too deeply about it, he entered the driver's seat.
“How was your stay abroad?” he asked. “Hope you enjoyed yourself there?”
Kiara looked outside the window calmly.
“It was fine”.
Mr Adams forced out a smile.
“That is good to hear”.
He remained parked without moving.
After some seconds Kiara frowned slightly.
“Why haven't we moved yet?”
Mr Adams quickly replied,
“We are waiting for Alex. He should be here soon”.
Kiara slowly turned her eyes towards him.
“So I have to wait for whenever Alex decides to come out before I go to work?”
Mr Adams looked nervous.
“No young miss, I only meant....”
“Move the car,” Kiara interrupted coldly.
Mr Adams became confused.
“Young miss Alex will be here soon”.
Kiara slowly removed her eyes from the window and looked directly at him.
“I don't like repeating myself”.
Her voice was calm but firm.
Mr Adams was startled by the authority in her tone.Just as he was still hesitating, Alex suddenly came out from the mansion adjusting his suit.
“Wait!” he shouted while waving his hands.
But the moment Mr Adams saw the serious expression on Kiara’s face through the mirror, he immediately drove off.Alex stopped in shock.The car drove past him completely.
Inside the car, Mr Adams kept glancing at Kiara through the mirror in confusion.The Kiara he knew would never do something like this before.She would rather wait for hours than offend Alex.But now everything about her felt different.Not just her body.Even her confidence had changed completely.Still, Mr Adams convinced himself that maybe she was only having a bad day.
Back at the mansion, Alex stood stranded outside angrily.
“When did she start behaving like this?” he muttered.
Since Kiara travelled abroad, he had gotten used to using the family car freely while acting like the true heir of the company.
Frustrated, he quickly called Anna.Not long after, Anna arrived with her father's car which she usually drives to work.Immediately Alex entered the car, Anna frowned.
“Why didn't you go with Kiara?”
Alex hissed angrily.
“She left without waiting”.
Anna looked surprised.
“That is strange”.
Alex adjusted his tie.
“She probably didn't want to be late for her first day”.
Anna remained quiet for a while before speaking again.
“Don't you think she is acting weird?”
Alex frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Anna tightened her hands on the steering wheel.
“I feel like she is pretending to still be the same person but… she has changed”.
Alex scoffed loudly.
“You are overthinking”.
Anna shook her head slowly.
“No Alex, something feels different about her”.
Alex turned towards her irritably.
“The only thing that changed is her body”.
Anna stayed silent. Then Alex smirked slightly.
“Or are you jealous of her new appearance?”
Anna quickly looked offended.
“Jealous? Of Kiara?”
She laughed dryly.
“She only became beautiful but she is still dumb”.
Alex smiled proudly.
“Good. At least you know that”.
He relaxed against the seat.
“Now hurry up before we get late”.
When they arrived at the company, workers immediately noticed Alex stepping out from Anna’s car instead of the family car.
Whispers quickly spread around.
“Isn't that strange?”
“Why didn't he come with the family car today?”
“I thought he was the heir?”
Alex heard the whispers clearly and his face darkened in annoyance.
He blamed Kiara immediately.
Meanwhile, Kiara had already arrived at the company long ago. She had asked Mr Adams to stop far away from the building so nobody would suspect her identity because of the expensive car. After walking into the company building calmly, she approached the reception desk.
The receptionist smiled politely.
“Good morning miss, how may I help you?”
Kiara smiled gently.
“Good morning. My name is Kiara. I am the new employee”.
The receptionist immediately looked surprised.
“Oh! Miss Kiara?”
Kiara nodded softly.
“Yes”.
The receptionist quickly stood up respectfully.
“We have already been informed about you. Please come with me”.
As they walked through the company hallways, many workers secretly admired Kiara’s appearance.
“She is so beautiful”.
“She looks like a model”.
The receptionist finally stopped at a working department.
“Everyone,” she announced. “This is Kiara, the new staff member joining your department today”.
The workers welcomed her warmly. Kiara smiled politely and greeted them before sitting down at her assigned table. Not long after, Alex and Anna stepped out of the elevator.
Inside the elevator earlier, they had heard workers whispering about them.
“So he actually came with Anna?”
“Something feels suspicious”.
Alex felt annoyed.
“If Kiara had waited for me none of this would have happened,” he thought angrily.
As Alex walked towards his office, his eyes suddenly landed on Kiara sitting quietly at her desk.He paused.Even sitting normally, she looked elegant and mature.
“Kiara,” he called.
Everyone looked up.
“Come to my office”.
Kiara calmly stood up and followed him quietly to avoid creating suspicion. The moment they entered his office, Alex turned towards her.
“Why did you leave without waiting for me?”
Kiara remained silent while looking away.Alex slowly moved closer and smiled softly.
“Are you jealous because I treat Anna differently?”
Kiara said nothing.
Alex held her shoulders gently.
“You know I can do much more for you than what I do for Anna”.
Kiara immediately brushed his hands off her shoulders with hidden disgust.Alex smiled slightly at her reaction before lifting her chin gently.
“And besides… I love you more”.
He slowly leaned forward intending to kiss her.
But immediately Kiara pushed him away sharply.At that exact moment, Anna walked into the office.
Alex turned around angrily.
“Can't you knock?”
Anna looked hurt.
“I was only.....”
Before she could finish talking, Kiara calmly interrupted.
“I left early because I didn't want to be late for my first day at work”.
She looked at Alex softly.
“I could have called a cab if necessary”.
Then she slowly held Alex’s hands like a child and smiled gently.
“You know I would never do such thing to you”.
Alex immediately softened.
“I know”.
“I only wanted to make sure”.
Kiara smiled sweetly.
“I would never do that”.
Anna stood there watching everything with jealousy burning inside her chest.
Kiara then calmly withdrew her hands.
“I should return to work now”.
Alex nodded.
“You can go”.
As Kiara walked past Anna, Anna stared at her angrily. The moment Kiara left, Anna faced Alex immediately.
“What was that about?”
Alex sighed.
“Don't start again Anna”.
“You were getting close to her!”
Alex rolled his eyes.
“I was only pretending”.
He pulled Anna closer.
“How could I fall for that dumb girl?”
He kissed Anna lightly.
“You are the only one I love”.
But Anna wasn't satisfied. Ever since Kiara returned, Alex’s attention towards Kiara had clearly increased and he care less for her afraid.She swore to herself that she will make Kiara pay for that by disfiguring her face.she left Alex's office looking annoyed.
Kiara who has already sat on her working table calmly took the wipes on the table and wiped her hands which she used in touching Alex earlier with the look of disgust on her face.
The rest of the day passed slowly. When work finally ended, Kiara intentionally remained downstairs waiting for Alex. She wanted Anna to feel exactly how she once felt in high school.After most workers had gone home, Alex finally came downstairs together with Anna.The moment Kiara saw them, she quickly ran towards Alex while intentionally pushing Anna aside slightly.
“Alex!” she called sweetly.
“I have been waiting for you so we can go home together”.
Alex smiled and held her hands.
Anna looked shocked.
As they reached the waiting car, Anna moved to enter the back seat like usual.
But immediately Kiara frowned slightly.
“Alex… are you really going to let Anna sit with you at the back while I sit in front?”
Alex immediately turned to Anna.
“Anna, sit in front”.
Anna froze painfully.
“But Alex....”
“Just do it”.
Kiara immediately held Anna’s hand softly pretending to look emotional.
“For the sake of our friendship please let me sit with Alex just this once”.
She suddenly acted like she was about to cry before leaning weakly into Alex’s arms.
Alex instantly became protective.
“Anna can't you consider her feelings for once?”
His voice became louder.
“You are being heartless”.
Anna’s eyes widened painfully.
This was the first time Alex had ever shouted at her because of Kiara. Heartbroken, she quietly stepped out and entered the front seat.
Meanwhile, Kiara secretly smiled with satisfaction inside Alex’s arms before immediately changing back into a pitiful expression.
“Don't shout at her,” she said softly.
“She understands now”.
Alex gently held her waist as they entered the back seat together.
And the car slowly drove away while Anna sat silently in front, her eyes burning with jealousy and hatred.
