The Disclosure

The morning sun filtered through the grates above, casting long shadows across the tunnels. Dante sat in the main room of the Rusty Gate, the folder from Elena spread across the table before him. The revelations of the past few days had shaken him to his core. The Council. A group of powerful people who had been controlling the city for generations. They were the real enemy—the ones behind the Families, the mastermind, Aldridge, Kane. And now they wanted to destroy the Underground City. He needed to share this information with his closest allies. He needed to prepare them for what was coming. The council meeting was called for that evening. Dante sat at the head of the table, his advisors around him. Aldo, Nina, Tommy, Luciano, Rina, and the other leaders of the Liberators. Gia sat in the corner, her notebook ready, her eyes watchful. "I've called you here because we have a new threat," Dante said. "A group called the Council. They've been controlling the city for generations. They're the ones behind the Families, the mastermind, Aldridge, Kane. And now they want to destroy us." The room was silent, the weight of the revelation pressing down on them. Aldo leaned forward. "What do we know about them?" "Not enough." Dante spread the folder's contents across the table. "But this is a start. Elena gave me everything she knew about the Council. Their members, their plans, their weaknesses." Nina's face was pale. "Who is Elena?" "She was a member of the network. She defected. She wants to help us." Luciano studied the documents, his face grim. "This is serious. The Council is powerful. They have resources, connections, allies. They've been building their power base for generations." Rina's eyes narrowed. "How do we fight them?" "We find their weaknesses." Dante's voice was hard. "We gather intelligence. We build our defenses. And when the time is right, we strike." Tommy spoke up, his voice soft. "What about our informants? Can we trust them?" "I don't know." Dante's voice was honest. "But we need to find out. We need to know who's loyal and who's not." --- The meeting continued late into the night. Dante shared everything he knew about the Council—their members, their operations, their plans. His advisors listened in silence, their faces growing paler with each revelation. "We need to be careful," Dante said. "The Council has infiltrators everywhere. They could be watching us right now." Aldo nodded. "I'll start vetting our informants. Anyone who seems suspicious, we'll bring in for questioning." Nina added, "I'll talk to the people in the clinics. See if anyone's noticed anything unusual." Rina spoke up, her voice firm. "I'll organize the Liberators. We'll be ready to fight if it comes to that." Dante looked at his advisors, his family, his people. "Then let's get to work," he said. "We've faced worse threats. We've survived worse enemies. We'll survive this too." --- The days that followed were filled with investigation. Dante's informants spread out across the surface, gathering information about the Council. They discovered that the group was vast, with members in every level of society—politicians, business leaders, law enforcement, even members of the clergy. They also discovered that the Council had been watching the Underground City for years. They had informants in the tunnels, people who fed them information about Dante's movements, his plans, his weaknesses. "We have a mole," Dante told his advisors. "Someone in the Underground City is working for the Council." Aldo's face was grim. "Who?" "We don't know yet." Dante's voice was heavy. "But we need to find out. Before they do any more damage." --- The search for the mole was intense. Dante and his advisors interviewed everyone who had access to sensitive information. They questioned informants, soldiers, even members of the council. The tension was palpable, the fear of betrayal spreading through the tunnels. Gia stayed close to him, her small hand never leaving his. She was brave, stronger than she had any right to be. But the fear in her eyes was a constant reminder of what was at stake. "King," Gia said one evening. "Do you think there's really a mole?" Dante knelt beside her. "I don't know. But we have to be careful. We can't trust anyone." "Not even me?" He pulled her into a hug. "I trust you, Gia. With my life." Gia nodded, her face buried in his chest. "I trust you too," she whispered. --- The breakthrough came a week later. One of Dante's informants, a surface dweller named Marco, came forward with information. He'd been approached by a member of the Council, offered money in exchange for information about the Underground City. He'd refused, but he'd managed to get the name of the person who'd recruited him. "The name is Rossi," Marco said. "He's a tunnel rat. Lives in Sector Two. He's been feeding information to the Council for months." Dante felt a cold fury rise in his chest. "Where is he now?" "His apartment. Sector Two. He doesn't know we're onto him." Dante turned to Aldo. "Get a team together. We're bringing him in." --- The raid was quick and silent. Dante and his crew moved through the tunnels, their footsteps silent on the wet stone. They reached Rossi's apartment and kicked the door open, finding him inside. Rossi was a small man, thin and nervous. He looked up when they entered, his face white with fear. "What do you want?" he stammered. "We know you've been working for the Council." Dante's voice was cold. "You've been feeding them information about the Underground City." Rossi shook his head frantically. "That's not true. I don't know what you're talking about." Dante stepped closer. "Don't lie to me. We have proof." Rossi's face crumpled. He fell to his knees, his voice desperate. "Please. I didn't have a choice. They threatened my family. They said they'd kill them if I didn't cooperate." Dante stared at him, his mind churning. Rossi was a victim, just like so many others. The Council had used his fear against him. "Tell me everything," Dante said. "Every meeting, every piece of information you gave them. And maybe I'll let you live." --- The interrogation lasted for hours. Rossi told them everything—the meetings, the payments, the information he'd passed on. He gave them the names of other informants, the locations of Council safe houses, the details of their operations. By the time he was finished, Dante had a clear picture of the Council's network. It was vast, reaching into every corner of the city. But it was also vulnerable. "We can use this," Dante told his advisors. "We know who they are. We know where they operate. We can take them down." Aldo nodded. "We'll need to move quickly. If they find out we have this information, they'll change their plans." "Then we move tonight." --- The operation was swift and brutal. Dante and his crew struck at the Council's safe houses, capturing their operatives, seizing their documents. The Council was caught off guard, their network crumbling. By dawn, Dante had captured a dozen Council members, including two of their top leaders. The information they provided was invaluable—names, locations, plans. "We've dealt them a heavy blow," Dante told his advisors. "But the war isn't over. They'll regroup. They'll come back stronger." Nina's face was pale. "What do we do?" "We prepare." Dante's voice was hard. "We strengthen our defenses. We expand our network. And when they come, we'll be ready." --- The weeks that followed were filled with preparation. Dante worked tirelessly, building alliances, strengthening defenses, gathering intelligence. The Underground City was stronger than ever, its people united, its future bright. Gia stayed close to him, her small hand never leaving his. She was growing up, becoming more confident, more capable. She was no longer just the tunnel rat queen—she was a leader in her own right. "King," Gia said one evening. "Are we going to be okay?" Dante knelt beside her. "We're going to be fine. I promise." "But what if the Council comes back?" "Then we'll fight them." His voice was soft. "Just like we've fought everyone else. And we'll win." Gia nodded, her face buried in his chest. "I believe you," she whispered. --- The sun was setting over the surface, casting a golden glow through the grates above. Dante stood in the center of the Crossroads, his people around him, his family beside him. He thought about his father, about his grandmother, about the uncle who'd betrayed them all. He thought about the long, dark road that had led him here. And he thought about the future—a future he would protect with his life. Nina came to him, her hand in his. "What are you thinking about?" "I'm thinking about how far we've come." Dante's voice was quiet. "And how much we still have to do." "I know." She squeezed his hand. "But we'll face it together." He looked at her, at the woman who'd been his anchor in the darkness. "Yes," he said. "Together." --- They walked through the tunnels, their steps light, their hearts full. The war was not over. The future was uncertain. But they were together, and they were strong. And that was enough.
