Liora’s POV Sunday morning was quieter than most mornings had been since Karl arrived. He was sitting beside me on the couch with his legs tucked underneath him, watching a cartoon while I sorted through a few things on my phone. Every now and then he would laugh at something on the television, then settle back into silence, completely comfortable with simply being there. I had started noticing those little things. He no longer asked whether he was allowed to take something from the refrigerator. He no longer stood hesitantly in the hallway when he wanted to come into the living room. He had started leaving his things around the apartment, dropping his shoes near the couch and abandoning his toy cars on whatever surface happened to be closest. It was ordinary. And I loved it. “Mom?”
