I stood there for a second longer than necessary, trying to smooth the surprise from my face before Ezra could read too much into it. If he noticed my hesitation, he did not comment on it. He simply greeted Robert with an easy familiarity that made it clear this meeting had been planned long before Gina decided to kidnap me for the weekend.
“Did not expect to see you here,” Robert said, clapping Ezra on the shoulder with that broad, teasing grin that always seemed to make him look like the most at-ease person in any room.
Ezra smiled faintly. “Neither did I expect you to turn this into a weekend trip.”
Gina laughed, looping her arm through Robert’s. “You are welcome,” she said, as though her role in orchestrating this outing were both obvious and entirely justified.
