ANOTHER DINNER

Freyana called the following day and told me to take a break. She insisted that I should only return to work once I felt better. I ended up taking just two days off since my internship was almost over anyway. There were only five days left before Halloween, so after resting for two days, I went back to the office for the remaining three. “So today’s your last day, huh?” Mary, my supervisor, said sadly. I smiled faintly. Honestly, I didn’t want to leave either. Everyone there had been kind and welcoming. “Yes.” “You should come back after graduation,” Kimberly added. “But this time as a full-time employee.” I laughed softly. “Are you coming back yourself? You’re an intern too.” “Of course I am,” she replied confidently. “Well… they better hire me.” We all burst into laughter. I was going to miss the noise, the teasing, and all the little moments we shared together. That evening, Luke invited me out for dinner. According to him, it was his “special goodbye treat.” “So this is it? I’ll never see you again?” he asked dramatically, placing a hand over his chest as if he were in pain. I laughed at his childish behavior. Ever since our first dinner together, I had grown comfortable around Luke. Being with him felt easy and natural, just like hanging out with my other colleagues. “Relax. I’ll still stop by to visit.” “No need,” Freyana cut in immediately. “You’ll spoil him.” Luke gasped in fake offense. “What’s your problem, Ana?” I blinked. “Ana?” “Oh, it’s the nickname I gave her,” he explained casually. “I don’t like the name Freyana.” “Excuse me?” Freyana snapped. The two instantly started arguing again. Whenever they were together, they behaved like children. Endless bickering, pointless arguments, dramatic reactions. Watching them was honestly entertaining. Then, all of a sudden, they both went silent. “What happened?” I asked, confused. “Lynn is here,” Luke muttered with obvious annoyance. I almost laughed at the expression on his face, but I held it in. I glanced around the restaurant, yet I couldn’t see Lynn anywhere. “I don’t see anyone.” “We can sense him when he’s nearby,” Luke said seriously. “And I can hear his footsteps already.” A few seconds later, Lynn walked into the restaurant with his assistant following behind him. She was a woman—my first time seeing him bring his assistant to dinner. “Who invited him?” I whispered to Luke. Luke scoffed. “Does he look like someone who waits for invitations? He obviously invited himself.” Freyana cleared her throat as Lynn approached our table. “Well, well. Big brother,” Luke said dryly. “What an unpleasant surprise.” “Hm,” Lynn replied calmly before taking the seat beside her. His assistant quietly sat at another empty table nearby. “What are you doing here?” Freyana demanded. “We didn’t invite you.” Lynn remained perfectly composed, his eyes scanning the dishes on the table. “I don’t need an invitation from you,” he replied coolly before raising his hand. “Waiter.” The waiter hurried over to him. “Take her order too,” he said, pointing toward his assistant. Luke folded his arms. “You’re ruining our dinner. Right, Ayl?” Truthfully, I was glad Lynn was there, but there was no way I could admit that out loud. “Mhm,” I hummed quietly. Lynn’s sharp gaze shifted toward me, sending chills down my spine. Luke noticed immediately. “Don’t scare my princess away,” he warned dramatically. Before Lynn could respond, the waiter interrupted by bringing the menus. The rest of dinner passed quietly for me. Not because I felt uncomfortable, but because Lynn had that effect on me. His presence alone made me quieter, more aware of everything around me. Unlike Luke, who never stopped talking. He spent most of dinner complaining about Lynn joining us while Lynn completely ignored him and continued eating in silence. “April,” Lynn called calmly, “pass me the car keys.” His assistant immediately handed them to him. Without warning, Lynn grabbed my hand and pulled me up from my chair. “Hey!” Luke shouted, jumping to his feet so fast his chair nearly toppled over. “She came with us! Why is she leaving with you?” “Exactly!” Freyana joined in. “Why are you taking her away?” Lynn ignored both of them completely. He picked up my bag with one hand while still holding mine with the other, then calmly led me out of the restaurant. Behind us, Luke and Freyana kept shouting like two chaotic children. If I didn’t know them personally, I would’ve thought they were drunk. As Lynn pulled me outside, I found myself staring at him quietly. Then I smiled to myself. Even his back looked unfairly perfect.
