The chill of the night air hit Diane like a wave, snapping her out of the cloud of emotions that had fogged her mind. The front door of her father's mansion swung closed behind her with a soft thud but she barely registered the sound. She had to get out of the house, away from Damon, away from Kara and all the suffocating questions that lingered in the air and the weight of the night was too much to bear.
She took a deep breath and started walking down the long, winding driveway. The manicured lawns stretched out on either side, the trees swaying in the breeze like silent witnesses to the turmoil inside her. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts about Damon, his daughter, the unsaid things between them and the painful realization that she had no idea what was real anymore.
