Nobody spoke.
The words on the screen seemed to suck the air out of the clearing.
SECONDARY HEIR CONFIRMED.
Diane stared at the device in Michael’s trembling hand.
“What does that mean?” she asked quietly.
No one answered but this time, the silence wasn’t hesitation.
It was fear.
Vivian stepped forward sharply. “Show me.”
Michael didn’t move.
“Michael.”
Slowly, he handed her the device.
Vivian read the screen once then again and for the first time since arriving, she looked unsettled.
“That’s not possible,” she whispered.
Calder frowned “What?”
Vivian looked up slowly “There shouldn’t be a secondary heir.”
Diane folded her arms tightly “You know, I’m starting to hate that phrase.”
Kara muttered under her breath, “Same.”
