“You’re lying.” Diane’s voice barely came out above a whisper. Michael looked at her with almost gentle amusement. “No, sweetheart. I’ve done many things in my life, but lying to you was never one of them.” “That’s impossible,” Richard said harshly. “I buried you.” Michael chuckled softly. “You buried a body.” The silence that followed was suffocating. Kara stared at him carefully. “You staged your death.” “Correct.” Damon’s eyes narrowed. “Why?” Michael slipped his hands into his coat pockets casually. “Because disappearing is often more useful than staying visible.” Diane’s stomach twisted “You were around us for years.” “Yes.” “You watched me grow up.” “Yes.” “And all this time…” Her voice shook. “You were part of this?” Michael tilted his head slightly. “Part of what?”
