BELLA
“ANAHERA JUNE KALLIO!” were the first words I yelled as soon as the cranky engine of Anahera’s abomination died in her driveway. There would be other times to rain on her about her vehicle. For now…
“Hello, my gorgeous best friend. How may I help you?” she replied, despite how flaky her grin was.
“What have you done?” I fired at her.
Her face turned as white as a sheet in a few seconds flat, before she hurried to me. “I promise it was a one time mistake. He was the one who made a move. I swear it. It was just one stinking kiss and it won’t happen again.”
Tilting my head, I replied, “I don’t know what you think I’m asking but yes, I want the details of this kiss. Get in.”
As we get in, I discard my light coat by the chair and follow her to her bedroom. It’s still as I remember it, except for some little bag of decor by the bed. Festive seasons and stuff.
“Why are you in my house, Bells? You almost gave me a fright.”
“You promised to call me last night but you did not. I thought you whacked your head against the bathroom sink and died.”
“What?” Anahera barked out a laugh. “It’s just a few hours. You can’t pronounce me dead already. Why did you not call my brother? Oh wait…you cannot stand his pompous ass.”
I huffed, refusing to let that one stupid memory make me cringe. “Your brother is an insufferable jerk cloaked in the body of a greek adonis. A body he did not earn and most definitely, does not deserve.”
“BUZZ! Wrong. He is an athlete, so he earned it. Else, you guys would not have–”
A pillow met her face before she could finish those words. “Don’t think I forgot your own kiss. Who did you kiss? How was it? Give me details now, or else I send Dom a text about you having s*x with a rando.”
She clasped her hands in front of her, falling face front on the bed. “It was just a blowjob and a kiss. Nothing more. What did Jax tell you?”
“WHAT?! ANAHERA? And who in the heck is Jax?”
“I’m sorry. It was…I wasn’t thinking, I know. Please don’t tell my brother.”
“I know you haven’t had a boyfriend since your messy breakup with Shawn. So, you’re saying you sucked the c**k of a stranger? My girl has balls. HA, I LOVE THIS!”
Something soft struck me in the face. The same pillow I threw at her before.
“It was not a stranger, technically. Ugh, I should not have done it. I sound like an i***t right now. Who gives blow jobs to people she just met? Anahera, of course. Ew.”
“On the contrary, while it may look gross to you, I don’t think it’s all that bad.”
She shot up into a sitting position. “It’s horrifying. He is supposed to be my patient with pain in his adductor…close to his groin. He had an erection and I just sucked his c**k. I’m a professional perv, Bella!”
Okay, it was that bad. Before I could say more, she was whining like a dying cat.
“How am I ever supposed to face him in our next meeting? It’s tomorrow!”
I sprawled all over her love couch and squinted at my manicure. “Oh please. Face it the way he’s going to face you. He should not have been getting turned on during physiotherapy so practically, the both of you are jerks.”
“You’re not helping,” she moaned.
I giggled. “You know, this reminds me of the time I was in Australia. I met this gorgeous man by the seaside. He was head-to-toe gorgeous and most of the ladies on the island wanted a taste of him.”
Anahera sniffled, pouting at me as she listened. “How is your stranger supposed to help me?”
“Not much, but one night during a bonfire, we snuck away and he f****d me so good I felt it all the way in my stomach. The next day, he came over to daddy’s house. I thought he was stalking me but turned out he was with him for work, and when daddy left? He f****d me again and again.”
She rolled her eyes so far into her head. “Moral lesson is?”
“It will only repeat itself if you don’t want it to. So go tomorrow and handle the therapy like a ship. Steer it in the direction you want and stop fretting about what you have no control over.”
“I wish I could go back in time. I’ll chop off his balls before he thinks to have an erection during the examination.”
We both laughed at her joke. My phone pinged in my purse and I reached for it. It was a notification from my private investigator.
‘Still no news of him, ma’am.’
Dread rolled in my chest while reading those words. Hope was fast slipping away from my hand.
“Are you okay? You look pale.”
I quickly masked my worries with a smile. “Yes, he’s fine. I’m good. What were you saying?”
She resumed talking animatedly about what she was going to do tomorrow.
I loved Ana very much but not right now. Not when what I sought was still out of reach.
A few hours passed and we chatted some more, catching up on all the things I missed while I was away. Turns out they were a lot. Soon, it was dark outside.
“You know what?” Ana was saying. “You could just stay the night and leave tomorrow morning so you can drop me off at work. My car developed another problem, so I have to take it to the repairer on the weekend.”
“And whose fault is that? Change that crawler, Ana, you’re too stubborn.”
“Easy for you to say. Anyway, stay for dinner tonight. Just for old times sake?”
I made a show of pretending to turn down her offer. “I don’t want to bother, y’know. Me staying over means more mouths to feed and more dishes to clean.”
There was a knock on the front door which cut me short.
She sprang to her feet. “Oh goody, my brother is here, hold on.”
My ears rang in disbelief. “Your what?!”
Maybe I did not hear her the first time. I shot to my feet to follow her out into the living room.
“Anahera! You had better not be pulling my legs. You didn’t tell me that your egghead of a brother was–”
A very handsome man stepped into the small space, stealing all the oxygen in the room. “Hello, Anabella.”
Damn right, it was the devil and not only was he wearing prada, he was also wearing that stupid smirk that made me weak in the knees.
