There Is No Turning Back

"And kiss me." That moment, it suddenly seemed that everything quieted down and the only people left in the bar was the both of them. Aria's eyes became widely open in shock, a total contrast to her previous flirty self that one would definitely doubt she was the one that had just made such a flirty remark. Thane's words echoed in Aria's mind as she sat frozen on his lap. She could feel his gaze burning into her, a mix of amusement and something darker lurking beneath the surface. Aria tried to push herself up, to put some distance between them, but his grip on her waist was firm, almost possessive. "Scared? Now regretting your decision?" Thane's voice was low, taunting, as if he already knew the answer. Aria's heart raced and she shook her head abruptly, trying to tell him she wasn't backing out any soon. She knew she wanted this but this was Thane Blackwood, she was doubting the reality and wondering if he was actually the one. Not wanting him to get a bad impression of her, Aria leaned forward and gave him a hesitant, quick kiss on the lips, no more than half a second, her heart pounding in her ribcage. To her surprise, Thane Blackwood didn't pull away. Instead, he gently cupped her face, his touch sending all electricity through her body, something that she had never experienced before, even during her relationship with Marcus. Not like her relationship with Marcus wasn't all that rosy but since Aria had created laid down rules for Marcus such as the avoidance of s****l intimacy in their relationship, Marcus had never even bothered to kiss her. The last kiss that happened between them was a month ago. He was drunk when he suddenly came to her apartment, and forcefully pinned her down to her bed. At first, Aria thought something was wrong until she felt Marcus intrusive kiss and how he wanted to tear off her clothes. It was a near-trauma experience but Aria attributed it to his drunken state. She knew Marcus was not someone like that and wouldn't go beyond their relationship boundary or so she thought. She believed Marcus was okay with the emotional and financial support she gave him and the genuine love they had for each other until she discovered that Marcus had been sleeping with Hayley right from the beginning, which was why he didn't bother much when she set boundaries in their relationship. Maybe it was partly her fault, but Marcus didn't have to betray her like that. There was no such thing as love in a relationship anymore, she learned. A relationship without s*x wasn't real, and a relationship based solely on s*x wasn't real either. So, there was no actual point to a relationship other than lust. At least, that's what Aria had learned from her last relationship. Breaking out of her reverie, Aria realized that Thane Blackwood was staring at her. His arctic blue eyes bore into hers as though they could see every shade and corner of her soul, and for a moment, the world around them faded in comparison. Still cupping her face, without warning, Thane leaned in, his lips claiming hers in a searing kiss that left her breathless. Aria's mind went blank as she succumbed to the intensity of the moment, her body melting into his. She could feel the heat of his body against hers and could taste the strong alcohol he had consumed, which only added to the allure. Whatever was happening, Aria felt guilty because of Marcus. She still felt tied to him, deeply committed, and wanted to break that connection. Maybe this would make it easier, because what she was feeling right now felt like a beautiful sin she wasn't ready to opt out of. Fuck Marcus. f**k Hayley. f**k Peter. f**k Uncle Collins. f**k the bastards she called parents. f**k her fragile health. f**k them all! She needed something distracting. She needed to enjoy her life without anyone being in control, without feeling forced to do things. She needed this and she tried to tell herself that this was a rare opportunity. To her surprise, Thane withdrew, ending the kiss which felt abrupt for her. There was a smirk on his lips and somehow, Aria felt like kissing it away because his lips were so... How could a man be this hot nevertheless, or was this the effect of the alcohol she drank earlier or of the strong ting she had tasted from him. Thane's expression remained unreadable, his eyes studying her with an intensity that continuously sent shivers down her spine. She was hoping she did well. She wasn't a good kisser and someone like Thane Blackwood would have experienced a lot with many women and her kissing might not be par with any of them. Maybe he didn't like it? Maybe he wasn't interested anymore? After a moment of silence that stretched into eternity, Aria watched him nod, a ghost of a smile still playing on his lips. "Very well," he replied, his voice low and commanding. "You have a lot to learn." Aria blinked not expecting his response. Was this supposed to be good news? Was he going to accept her, nevertheless? However, he interrupted her thought process saying, "But I will give you a little warning, pumpkin." Aria's heart raced. She couldn't believe he was suddenly giving her a pet name, something Marcus had never done in their five years together. He always called her 'Ari,' just like everyone else. But this new nickname made her feel small, vulnerable. It made her feel like a baby; protected, cherished, cared for and like someone who doesn't have to be hard on herself especially coming from someone as devilishly handsome as Thane Blackwood. He was a god. Aria could feel the women in the bar staring daggers at her and she knew that they were jealous, wishing to be the one in such an intimate position with a handsome god like him. Summoning her courage, Aria replied, "Go on." Thane's response was chilling. "Once you enter my world, there's no turning back." His eyes seemed to glow with a bloody red light, sending shivers down her spine. She tried to convince herself it was just a fragment of her imagination, but she saw it clearly. However, placed his hand on her chin, forcing her to look directly at him as he questioned. "Do you agree?" "A hundred percent," Aria uttered, her voice barely above a whisper. She felt trapped, with no escape in sight. Thane would be her distraction, but at what cost? At least, he was the distraction she needed till death comes hanging nearby.
