XIX | Out we go

Elena's pov Looking at my phone I felt a tear slide down my cheek as I continued to read the name over and over again in my head. Blowing out a breath I decline the call, lowering the window I threw my phone out, watching it being destroyed as it hit the road. Raising the window up Nicolo reminded me it was for the best for this current situation. 'It was for the best...' I told myself as I stare at my lap, fiddling with my thumbs as I grew anxious. My family possibly thinks i'm dead for not calling them, nore answering them and most importantly the money transfers I was supposed to send out haven't been sent. We chose to leave home during night time to cause less of a scene to the enemy. Potentially escaping to france for a bit since things managed to get worse over the course of a month. Even though where in war luckily the lives of the innocent have been less then before but regardless there's some that are dying because of this...  Since Mr. Russo is dead the only one left to take the lead would be his daughter, Serena. She doesn't seem the type to know anything about this life but she somewhat does, terribly but has some knowledge. The only things that's making this worse is that instead of wanting Luciano dead she wants me dead, most likely wanting to torture Luciano and making him give up. On the other hand everyone that served under her dad wants to kill Luciano so either way we are both on their hit list, one being completely blacklisted. I felt myself getting tired, I wanted to sleep but I knew I couldn't. I have to be on the lookout just incase Nicolo didn't spot anything. It's a rule I set for myself because I didn't want anyone getting hurt because of me so this is my way for avoiding it. It was tough to find anything considering it was started to get dark fast. Switching the daytime lights to the nighttime ones he reassures me that everything will be fine. I blow out a sigh as I let my seat lay back as I tried to get comfortable. "Take a nap at least." Mumbling out a no I felt myself losing myself to the darkness as the heater was set on low, giving the car a warm touch of comfort. It felt like a hug to me, welcoming me to the darkside to relax. I wasn't sure how long I fell asleep for but I was woken up, not by Nicolo but the car being spun out the road as he tried to control it. "W-What's happening?!" I panicked as I held onto the 'ohshit' handle. As we spun I noticed a vehicle behind us speeding up, as if it were trying to hit us or push us off. Adding the pieces together I realized that It was our enemy trying to get us out of the road and into a ditch, possibly either to kill me or kidnap me. Nicolo quickly got control over the car and swerved out of the way, causing the car to drift slightly as he got back onto the road. "Hold on!" He shouts at me as he quickly speeds up, ignoring the speed sigh as he tried to lose whoever was behind us. I was surprised that there wasn't many cars here at the moment, if so we definitely would have been in a ditch along with others. Looking over at the speedometer I look away, squeezing my eyes closed as I held the handle even tighter. We were going ninety in a forty five where there's hills and curves around, this isn't good news unless Nicolo knows what he's doing. Opening my eyes I look behind us to see the car on our asses as Nicolo approaches a sharp curve. With no choice he avoids the brakes and turns sharply, hugging both the lanes as we turn with the curb as the guys behind us were ready to hit us. "Dobbiamo incontrare velocemente i mafiosi francesi-" Translation: We need to meet the French mobsters fast-. I let out a scream as Nicolo tried with one hand to control the out of control car while holding his arm out to keep me in my seat. We both knew there wasn't any way of us getting the car controlled, knowing we were about to crash he lets go of the steering wheel he has both of his hands in front of me, one keeping me in place and the other covering my stomach.  Feeling the car tilting I closed my eyes, feeling each flip I cried as we both rolled to our deaths. __________ "Elena, svegliati." Translation: wake up. Opening my eyes to feel pain around my body, aching I realized that I was currently upside down while Nicolo was out on my side trying to wake me up. Looking around I felt pain shoot up my neck as I moved, I couldn't move my neck without hurting it. We were in a reck, most likely either they got into a reck as well or we lost them. "Non muoverti, ho chiamato gli Abreo, dovrebbero venire qui presto." Translation: Don't move, I called The Abreo's they should be coming here soon. I didn't feel well, I felt like passing out and vomiting. My body was hurting except my belly, I was hoping everything was ok with the little one, hoping that it's still safe. "C-Can you help me out- ah." I groan out in pain as I moved my arm, wanting to unbuckle my seatbelt. Seeing him shaking his head at me he explains to me that I took a lot of it instead of him. He was apologizing to me about something that wasn't his fault. Good news is that Nicolo is still alive with me. Bad news, we are sitting ducks till they get here. Cutting the seatbelt off his arms instantly went under me, catching me as I fell. I knew the moment my body hit him he was in pain, I felt terrible knowing that he was hiding the pain in order to get me out and out to safety. Helping me get up we carefully walk towards a tree as we both gasp out of breath, our feet and arms killing us as we bled from cut wounds. Gently setting me down on the grass he carefully sits down next to me, laying against the tree as we both looked at the totaled car in front of us. There goes 58000 euros down the drain. "What do you think happen to the others?" I whispered out as I closed my eyes.  "No idea." We could have lost them or maybe their waiting to strike us. Maybe they spun out and went to the other side, killing everyone in the car or they went back to italy since we were in france's territory. We gave The Abreo's a heads up that we would be here, The Russo's did not and if the Abreo's found out or caught them they would be dead. As minutes passed by Niccolo taps my shoulder, making me open my eyes up to spot a pair of headlights coming our way. I hope it's them. Noticing that Nicolo was watching the car like a hawk I began to grow worried, what happens if it's not them. What happens if the Russo's?! Parking on the side of the road we both watched both of the front doors opening, two men in suits step out. I was a little surprised to see them wearing full on suits as if they were coming from a fancy party or something. "You okay?" I wish I knew some french so I could communicate with them, I give them credit for at least trying to communicate with us. I knew they didn't know much english nor know how to speak it, their accents were sweet but dark at the same time, it sounded funny as they spoke in english. "Oui et non." Translation: Yes and no. Nicolo says out in french. Both of them approach us and help us up. Observing our bloody cut up wounds they carefully take us to the car. I'm assuming that mine were worse than Nicolos since the man helping me, picking me up bridal style to carried me.  Once my body hit the carseat I felt drained, to the point where I just passed out in their car. Could have been that I was tired? Or lost too much blood? Maybe, who knows, for all I know instead of passing out I could be.... Dead. Darkness surrounded me, I couldn't feel anything, I felt numb yet light. __________  As a week went by I stared out the rooms window as I laid in bed, I was strictly on bed rest for another week.  Drip. Drip. Drop. I heard the rain softly hitting the glass as I sat there looking at it, letting the time pass by. I wasn't in a hospital, I was underground in a safe house where The Abreo's mainly gather to as well as to shield those that were wounded. Because this was one of many safe houses they had around the area and thet constant want of the boss's head chopped off there wasn't any electronics in here, not even a radio. If you needed to call someone they had a phone wall where they used an older phone that connected to a special outlet to let you talk. Thats how cautious they are. Hearing a soft knocking from the door I take my eyes off of the window to see the same nurse coming in the room to check on me. Nicolo strictly told her she was not allowed to do any type of ultrasounds on me because I have a 'special condition', In reality no one was to know I was bearing Luciano's child in me. Because of that they had to make do and try fix me up going off of what they saw and felt. If I was bleeding internally I would have died already but because of that they let it go. I did have a broken ankle and arm which I should recover in a couple of weeks but other than that nothing much happen except the cuts I had around my body. I still have some bruises around my body but those are going away so it's nothing big. Noticing that I was alive she quickly left me by myself.   Blowing out a sigh I hit my head against the pillow to just contemplate this moment. Within seconds I was interrupted by Nicolo as he locked the door behind him, making me worry as he walked towards me.  "Cosa c'è che non va?" Translation: What's going on? I noted, seeing the look he had. Nicolo wasn't like the rest of the guys, he shows emotions, let down his guard when it was needed to. He looked rather disturbed, sadden by whatever he heard. Whatever it is, it's nothing small it's big. "Tomorrow we're heading to germany." "Nicolo." I stared at him, a sad look forming as he continued to exame me with his eyes. I grab onto my arm as I felt something wasn't right. "Luciano died..."
