It's another day. I've finished half of my designs for the next collection, and I still have two weeks. I think I am getting off to a good start. I stretched my arm up. I've been sitting and working for almost three hours. I stood up and went to the coffee machine to press my desired coffee and wait for it to fill my favorite mug.
"Hey Selene, how's your design going?" Macky asked. "There's another junior designer like me who happens to be on my team, but we are both given different assignments for the upcoming collection." I smiled at him and let out a sigh.
"Better than I expected." "Designs are flowing in my head, and I think my hand can't even keep up." I said, and he giggled at me getting his own mug.
"Well, that's good." I'm also halfway through. With this timeline, we can finish it earlier than scheduled and make major changes if needed. He said that, and I can't help but agree with him. I am silently praying that everything goes well because this is our first major fashion event.
I recently graduated from one of the most prestigious fashion schools, and yes, I am proud of it. I worked day and night to get myself to enroll and to afford it. I am working almost four part-time jobs just to keep studying what I love and to fulfill my dreams of seeing other people wear my designs. I think there's no greater joy than seeing people admire your clothes because they are unique and something they can't buy anywhere except in your own shop. My long dream
After I graduated, I applied to all the big and top fashion houses. I'm submitting every portfolio I swear I worked on with my blood and tears (not literally, but you get the idea). And look where I am now: I am one of the junior designers at La Casa, the top fashion house in the entire universe. That is for me.
"Anyway, dear Selene, we better get back to our work. "We don't want to get stuck here while the snow is piling up outside." "We've got to hurry and head home in two hours." He stated that his goal was to bring me back to reality after my brief reminder.
"Argh, no one likes to get stuck in those thick snows." I said as we both parted ways. At exactly 5 PM, we both went home, with me going to the store to pick up a few things that I think I will need for the night since the next day will be a no work day for everyone. I think it's a holiday, but I'm not even sure. All I want is to not get hungry while doing my designs. I also drop by the bookstore; I remember getting some sketchbooks and new pencils since my stock at home is getting low.
I'm not really a fan of snow, but I find it so beautiful and majestic. Anyway, another weekend that I have to make use of. I opened my television and started preparing my meal. I opened the refrigerator to get some leftovers from the other night.
"Chicken and corn." that would be enough, I guess?" I murmured as I placed it on a plate and sent it straight to the microwave. I checked the letters I went to pick up on my way up. Invitations, bills, and other useless stuff This is my daily routine; I live alone and I enjoy it.
It was past 2:30 AM when I felt a sudden sleepiness. Closing my sketch book, I headed to bed. All I can remember is that I close my eyes and say, "I want to dream something good."
And here I am now, in the Cavendish duchy. All I can remember from that night is that I had the minimum amount of sleep, but then I woke up in a ray of sunlight with Emy looking at me, staring. Shock is an understatement; just looking at her, I know there's something wrong. Looking around, I found trees; there are no trees in the city, only in parks!
"Why are you sleeping here?" "Didn't you know that you can catch cold here since the night is cold?" Emy said that to me with Ana on her back, holding an umbrella. I was weary and did not know what to do. I was sitting on the grass, and everything clicked into place. I am not in my bed; I am not in my home; and I am not in my place.
"Emy, I told you to wait for me." I heard another voice, and that's when I met Artemis, whom I now call Art. Saying he is handsome is understated. He is what you call an aristocrat. with those long black hair and dark brown eyes that turn gold when a ray of light hits them. He is undoubtedly handsome. When he saw me, he turned pale; what was the cause? I have black hair. And this is how everything goes after that.
"You're telling me that you're not from this world?" He said. sipping on his perfectly curved cup, which I can already tell is worth a ton of money. How much? I don't know, and I don't want to know either.
"Yes, I am not from here." "I am certain of that." I answered. To be honest, what I want to tell him is that everything is obvious. I am wearing my pajamas, yes. I am wearing my silk pajamas that I got for my birthday, and they are wearing these old-style clothes, which I love, but I know the design can be better.
"And that you were brought here without your knowledge." He continues looking at me from head to toe. I wanted to get offended, but I know I am in the wrong. It is preferable to be truthful at this time because, if I am correct, this is the time when heads can easily fly and I want my head to remain attached to my body.
"You are correct again." "Honestly, I don't have an inkling why I was brought here, especially in your wide garden." As I looked around, I just noticed a huge portrait. It's him and the young lady, whom he called Emy, and I guess their parents? Their mothers have brown hair.
"May I know as to the significance of black hair?" "It appears that you are still taken aback by my hair." "Don't worry, it is natural; I didn't even have time to color it." I said I was reaching for my hair to try to fix it. I'm hoping it doesn't look like a bird's nest.
"Only a few people have black hair here." "Only the Cavendish clan." He said that, and right away I was alarmed.
"First and foremost, I am not your father's child." I don't even know your father. Please, I know who you are thinking of. I am Selene; I am not from here. "I am not even sure if I am from the future or if I'm from another world, but rest assured, I am not part of your family." I said. I know these kinds of cliched stories. This might end my journey around the world. I saw him sigh one last time, and then he stood up and rang the bell on his table. An old man, not too old, I guess, went in.
"You called for me, young Duke." He said so, and I looked at Artemis. He is indeed what you call a "young heir," but I think we are about the same age. Artemis looked at me and then at the man.
"Take care of her; provide a room and a maid to serve as her handmaiden." He said. My eyes widen.
"Excuse me, but why are you giving me a room?" I ask. I wanted to be sure.
"You don't have a place to stay." You have black hair, so people will immediately think that you are part of the Cavendish family. "I can't afford to have any rumors that my father's bastard is roaming around the duchy." I almost raised my brows at him because he said it deadpan.
"Wow, really." "I just told you I don't know your father." I explained. Well, at this time, I will take advantage of everything that I can get, and this is a free place to stay. He didn't argue anymore as I went out of the room. I followed the old man, whom I think is the family's butler. Looking around the hall, it is a hallway. In a Victorian hallway, you can hear your heels clicking when walking, and I hated that sound. You appear to be someone very high and powerful. The butler did not say anything as we walked through the long hallways and stairs. It was the third floor when we stopped at a huge door.
"This will be your room." "The handmaiden will be attending you shortly." He says this while bowing and opening the door for me. The room is beyond my imagination. It is full of luxuries, including the bed. The bed is kind of meh; I'm really not a fan of canopy beds, but anyway, who am I to choose? Closing the door, I went to the window and opened it. I looked down and saw the vast garden of the mansion.
"Who would have thought?" Should I stay here instead? "Maybe I can design more clothes here!" I know I can earn money here after seeing the clothes the people I saw are wearing. I looked around the room until I heard someone knocking and went inside.
"Hi, Ms., "I am Elija, and I will be your assigned handmaiden from now on." She said and I looked at her. She seems younger than I am. Maybe 15? She looked at me and smiled. I just realized that people here are so welcoming. This is not good for them. What if I am an assassin or someone who can't be trusted? Low security is bad.
"Hi Elija, you can call me Selene." I said, and she happily approached me.
"I will prepare your bath and your meal," she said, and I just nodded at her. While waiting for her, I decided to know more about this place and to plan what I should do and how I would get back because I just remembered the collection I was working on.
