Chapter 26 Always a Good Time
Emily Picks up the Story
"How did you guys enjoy those historical videos?" I inquired, "All the future seems to be is wars," said Ben, "I can't even imagine World War One and Two, to send Americans over to Europe to fight, it's just so hard to believe, and that Atom Bomb thing, infernal devices of destruction, you're future ain't so wonderful after all," continued Ben. "We never said it was perfect," said Deak. I turned to Annie, "Did you see the Wright Brothers stuff?" "Yes, I now see what you mean when you talk about how things change that airplane they flew, plus the very early ones sure are a lot different that today," added Annie. "Just remember what we told you," I said, "We plucked you two from one point and set you down in another, you didn't get a chance to see everything in the middle that led to the way things are today.
"So what did you think of the woman's suffrage stuff Annie?" "Interesting, women voting, I like the idea of being able to escape from bad home situations, drunk abusive husbands, maybe if suffrage and woman's rights had come sooner, my poor mother might have been able to escape from my father," Annie then lowered her voice almost to a whisper, "Thank you again…For what you did Emily." I gently squeezed her hand. Annie then went back to watching Deak drive, studying every move he made, the way he steered, applied his foot to the accelerator passing other vehicles, finally she spoke to no one in particular, "Do you think it's possible for me to drive, a wee bit like Rachel did?" I looked at her and said, "Of course, Annie, it's not really that hard, I noticed that you've been watching Deak drive, it's just a matter of matching your speed with the rest of traffic, keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you, watching the signs." Annie sighed, and I swore I heard her mutter under her breath, "Maybe someday."
"Well go to the hotel first and get checked in, I've got a late appointment with a place I sold to last time, most of the other appointments are tomorrow, plus the antiques," said Deak, "Oh yeah, you two in the back seat get your own room. Sorry Annie if that's shocking to you but Cha'Nara say's it's normal under Vagan customs, "What was that?" came Ben's voice, "I wasn't listening," "It means son, you and Pip share a room, I got one with double beds, so I expect you two to keep to your own beds, Annie, I got you a single, these rooms are costing me a bundle, but it's a Holiday Inn, free breakfast, it has a dining room lounge, a nightclub, the whole works, nice pool too but I don't think anybody brought suits, so that's out."
"Deak, if you spot a shopping mall or something, we need to stop, so I can get Annie here a couple nice outfits, and some things we need for Cha'Nara"s Goth disguise," I said. Actually there was a decent sized mall near our hotel, Deak and Ben stayed in the truck while Cha'Nara and Annie went with me. Nordstrom and Victoria's secret had what I was looking for, we got Annie some sexy under things (despite her blushing) some PJ's and a nice coat and a couple dressy outfits at Nordstrom, at another shop I found some Goth stuff for Cha'Nara as well as some more make-up for the disguise.
We were in the mall for about an hour (a record) Deak was answering one of Ben's many questions when we returned, "Thank you ever so much for these clothes Mi…Emily!" said Annie, "Think nothing of it Annie dear, believe me, it's my pleasure, we want you looking nice, on the other hand, we want Cha'Nara in a bit of a disguise, but they thought she would look rather "hip" in that store." We then drove a short distance to the Holiday Inn and began the check-in process. Deak had the gold secured in two metal cases, and the guns in another, neither he nor Ben ever let them out of sight. He had a third case with the gold he planned on selling today; this he had hidden under the rear seat. While Deak and Ben were moving the gold, I got Cha'Nara and Annie situated in their rooms, reviewing modern conveniences with Annie before heading to my room.

After I got everything put in our room I went to check on Cha'Nara. "How are we doing sweetie?" Cha'Nara seemed to be at loose ends, but together we were able to get her disguise looking great, very "hip" very Goth! Cha'Nara seemed to be somewhat indifferent to it, but I carefully explained why it was necessary. "Ben does not like this very much," pointed out Cha'Nara. "I'm sorry about that Cha'Nara, but if you want to be able to move around, you have to wear this disguise, oh! And remember to be "pouty" when your out in public, it goes with the disguise. By this time Ben arrived, "Ben, Cha'Nara tells me you don't like Cha'Nara's disguise," "Ma'am, it looks funny; her face is all painted up." "That's because we don't want anyone getting too curious about Cha'Nara here, as long as she's in public she has to wear it." Ben shrugged and said, "I know, I just don't like it that's all." "Well you and Cha'Nara watch TV or something; I'll let you know when we go down to eat, probably after Deak gets back."
I left Ben and Cha'Nara to themselves, and checked on Annie, who was trying on one of the dresses I bought for her, very stylish. "So what do you think Annie?" "I don't know, it's so different from clothing I've been wearing, I'm not used to dresses that come above the knee, its very risqué." "Actually it's not, I selected it because it's a sort of "middle ground" between what you were used to wearing, and what's modern, believe me, people will notice." "That is what I'm afraid of!" she said. "What's this? I replied, "A girl who works at the "Bad Girls Saloon is embarrassed by what she's wearing?" Annie blushed "I know it's what is worn in public these days, but it's hard to break old habits." "You realize Annie, that while you're here in the 21st century, I'm not you're boss you are a free agent, they have a very nice lounge and nightclub here, after we eat, Deak and I were planning on going dancing, you can either accompany us or go down there on your own, we promise not to bother you, If you want to try and meet 21st century men, here's you're chance, but just be careful though."
"Thank you Emily, perhaps I will." I went back to my room and relaxed on the bed while channel surfing, about two hours later Deak came in, "Got rid of six ounces babe, he held up a certified check for a little over $10,000.00. I squealed, "Outfucking standing!" "That little bit of silver was in there as well, tomorrow will be even better, I'm going to move the rest down to Pip's room, except for dinner, they're not going anywhere, Ben will know what to do." Deak had the two metal boxes secured to one of those luggage carriers so I helped him wheel them down to Cha'Nara's room, both were lying on one bed watching some movie, "If you kids are ready we are going down to eat," I said. Deak hid the metal boxes as best he could, Cha'Nara and Ben followed us out, I knocked on Annie's door, she followed us as well.
We enjoyed a marvelous dinner, Deak told me the antiques were hidden under the rear seat with just a couple bars that wouldn't fit in the metal cases, "It should be all right, the truck is parked right up front, under the lights, I'll check on things later. I looked at Cha'Nara and Ben who was still working on his dessert, "When you're done there Ben, we'll all go back upstairs in a group and check you're room, don't leave it unless you call our room, you know how to use the phone Ben, just dial our room number OK?" "I understand," he sighed. "Cha'Nara and I will stay put; we'll keep an eye on it Mrs. Mathers." "Thank you Ben." "I think I'll go over to the lounge if you don't mind," said Annie, "No go ahead, after Deak and I change we'll head down there as well," I said. Shortly, we all headed back upstairs checked the gold made sure there was nothing Ben or Cha'Nara needed before we left.
Deak and I changed, I wore my "Little Black Dress" I liked to wear while dancing, showing plenty of skin, and room to move while dancing. Entering the lounge, Deak said, "If I'm not mistaken, one of your "employees" is sitting over there talking to a young gentleman," I looked, "Man! Annie sure doesn't waste time."
Deak Picks Up the Story
Having all this gold in our rooms made me extremely nervous, but I had it well secure in metal suitcase type boxes, I tried to make everything look as innocuous as possible, as soon as the bank opened in the morning that $10,000.00 check would be there. So, for now Emily and I would go dancing. As we entered the lounge, I spotted Annie sitting with a young man, I pointed her out to Emily who said, "Leave her alone Deak, I told her we wouldn't bother her, she's very curious about 21st century men, in fact, let's sit on this side and where we won't be tempted to stare at her."
Soon both of us were out on the floor, I loved dancing with Emily, she was an extremely good dancer, and even had her own style of "dirty dancing." At one point, we noticed the guy Annie was with trying to teach her to dance, with moderate success, "Nineteenth century women just don't have any "rhythm" chuckled Emily. After the fourth dance, we took a break, Annie and her "friend" were still out on the floor. Emily and I danced for another hour then as we were leaving noticed our "couple" was missing, Emily winked at me, I think she knew where they were.
We checked on Cha'Nara and Ben before returning to our room, where Emily gave me another "private show" and we made love all over our king sized bed.

An evening of dancing and love making what more could a girl want? In the morning, Deak, Ben Cha'Nara and I were sitting around a table in the dining room enjoying a leisurely breakfast, Deak was explaining something to Ben, Cha'Nara was being Cha'Nara, always watching with that inquisitive look of hers, while at the same time working on a bowl of oatmeal. I was thinking of something when Deak said, "Morning Annie!" She quickly sat down next to me a big smile on her face; I looked at her and said, "You seem happy?" "Oh I am." Annie then bent over and whispered in my ear, "I wish that those dirty cowboys and miners could only be half as good as Jeff was," ending with a giggle. I smiled at her, "Well Annie, I'm very happy for you; I assume Jeff is that young man we saw you with?" "Yes, his name is Jeff Healy, he's here in Denver for a job interview, says he's from Wichita Kansas." "So what was he like, we saw him trying to teach you to dance," Annie blushed, "I tried, but I'm afraid I can't get used to your modern dances, we saw you and Deak out there, you two were wonderful, Jeff pointed you out as being very good." "Well thanks, Annie, so what do you think of modern men?"
"If Jeff is any indication, then I will definitely be coming back here with you two for good," blushing again, Annie lowered her voice, "He did things to me I couldn't even have imagined before, but when all you get is dirty miners and saddle tramps it's no wonder. Emily, I've never felt so alive and liberated in my whole life, but of course you know all of this, I'm speaking to you as an unemancipated nineteenth century woman." "Are you planning on seeing this guy again?" "No, but he gave me his e-mail and to contact him on his face book page, whatever those are?" "Don't bother Annie; he won't answer, welcome to the "Hook-up." Annie dear, this is romance 21st century style; I'm jus glad things went so well for you, consider yourself lucky." Annie's smile faded, "Did I do something wrong?" "Not at all Annie, I'm very happy for you, if you really do decide to stay here permanently, we will have a very long talk, I'll fill you in on all you need to know." With that, I gently squeezed her arm. Deak announced that Ben was going with him and we girls were on our own for the day and not to spend too much money.
